Fursty Ferret
Hey guys, few questions. Would the Iron Warriors have close ties with the dark mechanicus and other renegade aspects of the Mechanicus such as heritiks, and what is the traitor legions stance on using xeno tech. Lastly would an Iron Warrior war band take non iron warrior recruits, say renegade techmarine. I was thinking of creating a small force of CSM that was more mechanical then anything else, with only a handful of 'normal' troops. I was thinking that the lord would be a iron warrior war smith whose obsession with the machine god (whom he sees is an aspect of chaos), has seen him replace his dead warriors (or overly mutated) with skitarri style machine warriors. Any remaining live warriors would be heavily modified with bionics, and would basically be techmarines or arch magus style sorcerers. Still working on the details, for example not sure if I should paint them like Iron Warriors, or drop the Iron Warrior idea for say renegade techmarine or Iron Father. The idea had kind of grown from bored kit bashing where I created the leader of the force and flicking through the collected visions book. vipertaja
In "storm of iron" they make use of a technovirus infected tyranid ship and have access to a titan. I believe they could well have ties to dark mechanicus. They definitely like to use non astartes for trench digging and cannon fodder. In later stories Honsou recruits people left and right it seems and builds (or rather wins command of) an army of various individuals, including non astartes and even xenos. He also has a necron infected "liquid metal" arm of sorts, though I don't think he knows what it is. He has a dark mechanicus working for him. HOWEVER, I'm not sure Honsou could be called your average iron warrior. Likely most would see his ways as a bit outside tradition. Ultimately it's up to you. Of course whether you go for iron warriors or not it can always be a splinter group. Chaos Lord Shamrockius
I guess the catalogue answer is that Chaos armies are "warband"... they must have a base doctorine but I can imagine there would be variation. I can't imagine a Warsmith not having a dark Techpriest or two on hand. Although isn't there something somewhere about IW having a great natural understanding of mechanics? As for using Xenos tech, it's not like the High Lords will consider that their worst crime... I'd imagine they'd use whatever they can grab. minigun762
I feel like your army has more of a dark mechanicus feel to it rather than a straight iron warriors army. What I would do is use your combat cyborgs as the foundation of your army and include some iron warriors as your elites or specialists. Its very easy to imagine a small warband, maybe the leftovers from a much larger grand company, who ally themselves with this magus and his ragtag army. As far as using xeno tech, I think it can go either way to be honest. Remember they are traitors but its still ingrained in their minds that xenos are wrong and not to be trusted and this would likely extend to their weapons and tech. That being said, a traitor magus would be just the kind of person (machine?) who would try and use anything and everything to get an edge. Fursty Ferret
Thanks for your responses. I think I will keep the hq, chosen, maybe aspiring champions as more space marine and everything else as more mechanical. this is sort of a side project really, a place where I can make some crazy models when im bored of putting together loyalist scum. Still its nice to have a theme. Here's a pic of the lord/warsmith that started this all off. http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae77/Catesy2021/warsmith.jpg Not quite finished, need to make the techmarine arm look a bit more menacing and I may remove the chaos star, or if i'm feeling up to it maybe modeling a sort of daemon skull to represent the dark machanicus. hmmm, may have to get my sketch book out.
