Army Expansion

Okay so I've been collecting space wolves for a long time but had a bit of a break from the hobby and have decided to start a new army.

Currently I have:

A wolf lord with FB/PW and Bolt pistol

Wolf priest with bolt pistol or plasma pistol

10 grey hunters

10 blood claws

with rhinos

2 dreadnoughts with assault cannons

5 long fangs with missile launchers

my question is: what am I missing that is vital? I was thinking of getting a land raider but I also like vindicators and have never used one before.

Any thoughts?

On top of the WG contingent which you can have both TDA and PA so a WG box and another Grey Hunter box for your special weapon options and wolfy bits.

I would suggest a box of scouts, they are a pretty hardy choice for wolves and add a dynamic tactic that can be used in any list. 85 points for 5 scouts and a Melta Gun is a pretty solid use of an elite spot, then if you want add a WG in PA with a weapon load out such as my favorite Melta Gun/Thunder Hammer to give them a good one two punch.

Edit: best thing you could do is go into the army list section and post what your envisioned end goal list would look like. Allow folks to comment and once you have a list that your happy with, buy and build what you need. This way your not wasting money and time on models that you may not use right away. Or if you like you can use this thread as most people understand the difference between army list and buy and build lists.

Another hunter pack would be good.

IMO, at the very least get another 2 SW pack boxes. Most army lists nowadays run about 3x Grey Hunter packs at near full capacity. I say near, because perhaps one of the best (and definitely preferred) tactics is to save the 10th spot in a GH pack for a Wolf Guard pack leader w/ powerfist/combi-weapon. So one of the boxes could (should) be split to have about 5-ish Wolf Guard in power armor to function as pack leaders for all your various squads.

Other than that, I agree with Vrox. Shop around the other army list posts, see what play style suits you and build from that. You may find yourself to be more close combat oriented and prefer thunderwolf cavalry or skyclaws, or you might be more shooty and opt for more long fangs and a few land speeders to make a gun line, and then there's the mech route, going with vindicators, whirlwinds, predators, and dreads, etc.

Discover your playstyle then let us know, and we'll be able to help you out a whole lot more efficiently.

I'd think about a razorback for your long fangs tbh. For several reasons, the first of which is it adds a little extra firepower to your army plus there are times when your long fangs will have to move. Either 1) because they don't have a good field of fire & need to reposition or 2) Dawn of War missions your long fangs will start off the table so the razorback will allow them to get into position up to 3x as quickly & will give you a heavy weapon firing in at least one of the turns they are moving into position so that the much needed AT firepower isn't totally lost. I second the statements of Wolf Guard TDA & PA as well as GH & Wolf Scouts.

I'd also think about bulking out your Blood Claws & jogging them across the battlefield or putting them into a Land Raider Crusader as a rhino is better suited to Grey Hunters since you can't charge out of one & a 10 man squad of Blood Claws w/out a Wolf Priest or Ragnar Blackmane will get shot to pieces hopping out of a rhino. What they do best is charge headlong into things w/ the support of a Wolf Priest to give them staying power & preferred enemy.
