How to become an altar boy?

Some very good sources of inspiration you've got for me there Midgard, thank you :)

I'm sure all of the situations you pointed out are plausible and I hope you don't mind me using them for myself!

Glad I could help! Definitely feel free to take any of those ideas and run with them as you see fit :cuss

  • 3 weeks later...

Would anyone be interested in seeing something like this (ie. Astarte Beliefs) in an Librarium Article? If so, please let me know, as I would be interested in writing it. Of course, any help is encouraged and will be appreciated :tu:

Another possibility, too. Vandire's Reign of Blood had a number of Astartes Chapters join Sebastian Thor, perhaps out of wholly secular reasons, but... What if a Chapter that joined Thor's Confederacy of Light had witnessed what they can only explain as divine intervention helping Thor's forces? What if they have a Chapter-wide spiritual awakening as a result of that experience?

That I can get right alongside as a neat idea.

It'd have to be handled with some care, but it's still a neat idea. :)

Ludo, the more information we've got access to, the better for the Liber, so if you want to have a bash at writing this discussion up, then you should!

To add something useful to the discussion:

You could also have the HLoT deliberately place an influence on a chapter through somewhat unconventional means.

For instance, say the HLoT are talking about having a 22nd (or any other number) founding. Say the Lord representing the Ecclesiarchy bigs up the whole 'could be easier to control and even more loyal' angle to get support for a chapter of God-Emperor Worshippers.

Say, then, for instance, the HLoT agree to trial this idea, and pick out a suitably zealous world to recruit from. We'll call it Paxol for now. The ecclesiarchal types start telling people on Paxol to put their wee lads through some really over-the-top-difficult military training, and they might one day be good enough to be Space Marines. This becomes tradition and Paxol eventually starts producing worhty recruits.

When the Founding rolls around, a Chapter is assigned Paxol as a homeworld or otherwise directed to the system containig Paxol. They take up residence, and start picking up recruits. Eventually, the religious nature of the Chapter starts seeping through the indoctrination (so long after the training cadre is dead, maybe even thousands of years later?), until one of the Chapter openly declares his belief in the God Emperor and rallies many of his brothers to do the same.

You then have scope for either a peaceful takeover of the Chapter, or good ol' civil war between the two factions, maybe with some discreet interference by the ecclesiarchy.

And afterwards, in either event, one fairly legitimate God-Emperor-Worshipping Chapter. ^_^

It's complicated, but it'd work. Probably. :(

Ace: I'm curious to know why you think Midgard's idea would need to be handled with care?

I think I'll give the article a go, see how it goes!

As for your last idea, I'm a bit skeptical and would need some considerable work. However, it could be pulled off and it's a good idea :(

Ace: I'm curious to know why you think Midgard's idea would need to be handled with care?

Because it would work for one chapter, but not for many, or at least without the second chapter appearing to 'rip-off' the first.

Admittedly, the same is true for the idea I suggested, but after racking my brains I can't think of a way that multiple DIY chapters could easily turn to Emperor-worship.

Plus I believe all good ideas must be handled carefully and wrapped up in good writing to protect them. :P

Yup.

But surely the challenge is part of the charm? :)

It is, but I'd prefer using Midgard's idea (it is slightly easier :P), though yours may pop up sometime ;)

Anyway, cheers for your input Ace ;)

Ludovic

No worries. I just thought it'd make a change if I actually try and solve the whole 'to-believe-or-not-to-believe' dilemma instead of just asking why it exists. :D
