Son of Carnelian
Okay, so I recently got a hobby drill for the first time after collecting and painting for four years. I tested it (with great results) on some unpainted plastic models. Feeling a bit too brave, I suppose, I took the drill to the metal storm bolter held by my Chaplin. Disaster. Basically, my drill went too far apart and DESTROYED the whole front of the bolter. Do I need to do a full hand swap, or can I repair this mess? Please advise. Grotsmasha
What I would do, is to remove the barrels completely and glue on some barrels from some spare plastic bolters or plastic storm bolter. Pre drill the new barrels first maybe. Cheers, Jono Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/238318-well-shoot/#findComment-2874144 Share on other sites
KhorneHunter57x
Do you have a picture of the damage? It sounds like just the barrels are gone, which should be easy enough to fix. If it is just the barrels, and no damage to the body of the Storm Bolter, then I would get some plastic or brass tubing with the same outside diameter as a bolter barrel, shave clean the face of the Storm Bolter, and use the tubing to replace the barrels. For future use, I would suggest a trick I use by taking a small awl and making a small indentation where you want the center of the hole to be. Also, is it a hand drill or powered? If it is powered, then I would suggest using it as slowly as possible (also good advice for using a hand drill). I have done as you recommend with the models since then with MUCH better results! And it is a hand drill, so it was my own fault, not an overpowerful drill.
