A Forgeworld is protected by Legions of Skitarrii, who are, with the benefits of their weapons grade augmentations, nearly equal to Space Marines. They have LEGIONS of them. Not to mention the Titan Legion that each forgeworld possesses. Adding to this battery of destruction are the myriad of ancient and truly horrifying weapons that the AM has access to but refuses to share or show anyone. If that wasn't enough, each Forgeworld is vastly important to the Imperium at large and not just the Adeptus Mechanicus. The Imperial Navy, Space Marines, and Guard Regiments would RUSH to the aid of a threatened Forgeworld, because ALL of these organizations depend on the Forgeworld to survive. Even assuming you could somehow get past the awe-inspiring orbital defense grid, smash aside the Skitarrii and devastate the Titan Legions, you would still have to explain what their goal was. There are softer targets in the Imperium, no matter what their goal is. If they are after a fight, then they should attack a Space Marine homeworld. If they need slaves, a Hive World. If they want raw materials, they should hit an Industrial World.

Also, while I agree that Space Marine has its fun moments and is an enjoyable way to spend an evening, its not exactly hard information as far as the backround and the fluff. One squad of Space Marines would get smooshed by a Waaaggghhh capable of threatening a Forge World, and no amount of Ultrablue Awesomeness is going to carry them through anything beyond the first battle. Relic makes a good video game, and it sort of mentions 40k. Relic doesn't make a fantastic backround though, as evidenced by the myriad of problems the Blood Ravens would/should have.
