greatcrusade08
evening chaps, ive got an email from Graham McNeill. i sent one thanking him for meeting us at the last ultra-meet and letting him know we have some custom dice to send him as a gesture of thanks. I asked him if he intends to carry on with the ultramarines series and what he has planned, i told him i wanted to see more of learchus, to which he replied he might be meeting his end soon... :) i also asked about whether we will see the gulliman/alpharius 'event' in the HH series, and whether or not audio books will be released on paper as i personally have a hard time getting on with them anyway enough of my prattle, check out the email Hey guys, Yeah, I remember that day – Evan rolling lots of good dice and trying to wreck the joint! Chessex dice...sounds interesting. Well, if any of you are coming to Games Day, then you could pass them on there, or if not then yeah, send them on to me via Black Library, that’d be very much appreciated and is a lovely gesture. Thanks very much! Glad you liked The Chapter’s Due, and if you like Telion I have good news and bad news. Good news is that he’s the central character in Eye of Vengeance, a story I wrote a wee while ago and which is coming out next year. Bad news (for you, at least...) is that it’s an audio drama. I am planning to write more Ultramarines novels, and have the next three planned out in sketch detail. And of course they’ll be following Uriel! He’s my main character...would expect a Gaunt novel without Ibram Gaunt? Though, as I’ve been doing over the last few books, I’ll be broadening the cast list, and Learchus will be playing a part in these books. Though I do plan to kill him soon. Is he joking here...you decide :-) As to Alphas/UM’s, your guess is as good as mine, but I’d be surprised if we didn’t see that somewhere along the way. As to the audio dramas, it’s not your cup of tea, but you were to look at the sales figures, you’d see that it’s a LOT of other people’s cups of tea, coffee and hot chocolate. They’re not going away, in fact you’re likely to see more of them. Some may be put out there in various bonus products like omnibuses, but that’s not something to count on. Cheers, and speak to you soon, Graham Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/238407-graham-mcneill-email/ Share on other sites

Sgt. Tiberus Satio
i told him i wanted to see more of learchus, to which he replied he might be meeting his end soon... Pffft, it is allll about Pasanus(spelling?) I can never pronounce him correctly. Built like a dead, fights like a marine, and wears Ultramarine... <3 I can't wait for the audio, I enjoy them when I can't bring a book (work sometimes), I have all the books, short stories, and what nots'. I can't wait. I've spoken to Mcneill through email once, thanked him for helping my son see the Emperor's greatest marines. Great chap, always polite and will talk with you when given the chance. Nice job GC08. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/238407-graham-mcneill-email/#findComment-2875428 Share on other sites
Captain Idaho
I must say I have had contact with Graham McNeill and the guy is so polite and friendly it really is refreshing. Of course, he's not quite Al Pacino or whatever, but still he's more famous than me! :) Anyway, I'm interested to see what is done next in the novels, since he really has created a caste of interesting characters in The Chapter's Due. Hoping he is joking about Learchus, as I had a soft spot for him ever since Warriors of Ultramar when he trained the Guardsmen. The Emperor's Champion
So he plans to continue butchering existing Ultramarine characters AND to kill off the only good Ultramarine he created? What is this I don't even. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/238407-graham-mcneill-email/#findComment-2875450 Share on other sites
Sgt. Tiberus Satio
Hoping he is joking about Learchus, as I had a soft spot for him ever since Warriors of Ultramar when he trained the Guardsmen. I liked how he was changed to adopt Uriel's vocal teachings about thinking outside the teachings scenarios. I thought it was fantastic when he threatened I believe a General in Warriors of Ultramar by picking him up by the collar and stating something to the nature of "Insult my chapter again and I will remove your head from your body." I was grinning ear to ear waiting for the general to smart off again. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/238407-graham-mcneill-email/#findComment-2875452 Share on other sites
blackoption
I look forward to reading it. But I hope they keep Learchus around for a bit. I am curious to see how new characters for the 4th company turn out. Cptn. Palladorus
For those of you who, like me, want to read the second trilogy but are way too cheap to have done so, this just went up on the BL site. As much as I really dislike McNeill's attitude towards the Codex, I'd be lying if I said the first omnibus wasn't a big influence on my choosing the Ultramarines. His stories in both 40k and WHFB are always entertaining and he does seem like a really nice guy. Ethrion
it would be interesting to see how many more characters develop, and despite legatus dislike for his books, i think they make for excellent stories. I must say that initially I wasn't a fan of the Ventris series. When I first read them I was hoping and expecting a series like Nick Kyme's Salamander books or A D-B's Helsreach. When they turned out to be how they were I admit I was quite disappointed. However, as soon as I started viewing them as more 'Gotrek and Felix' in space and just two marines who go on "adventures" as it were, I can accept them and enjoy them for what they are. I know that's not how they are probably intended and I agree it's a shame that they have to be viewed in such a light but I guess I'll just look to Fall of Damnos and the upcoming HH novel by Abnett for my "proper" Ultramarine fix. Cptn. Palladorus
It's not 40k, but it is McNeill - if you're at all into WHFB (and especially the Empire, like me) you really should check out The Ambassador and Ursun's Teeth, now available as ebooks which is almost as good as back in print. Kreon
The first 3 books in the UM series were...okay. I enjoyed them at times. I enjoyed The Killing Ground quite a bit, and I've heard the 2 more recent books were good. Fulgrim is still my favorite HH book, hoping he brings more writing like that to the Ultramarines series.
