Azalus
I've been playing 40k for about 2 years now, and have decided to pick up some wolves, nothing major at the moment, I've just got C:SW and a battleforce, that I assembled as 2 squads of 5 blood claws, a squad of 5 grey hunters, 5 wolf guard, one of which will be used as a battle leader (until I procur other hq's) , the other four will be spread between the units, and of course the wolf scouts and drop pod. I was curious as to what any of you might consider vital additions to this army, trying to stay within the 1500/2000 point range, and maybe in the future approaching 2500. dswanick
A pack of Skyclaws or a Landspeeder for some mobility, and a Long Fang pack with Lascannons and Missile Launchers to reach out and touch people. After that, I'd consider some Rhinos, everyone needs a good ride. Welcome aboard. Azalus
Sounds like a plan, I was definitely thinking about the skyclaws, I'll have to give the Long Fangs another read as well when I get home from work. Much appreciated and glad to be here. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/238439-new-wolf-lookin-for-advice/#findComment-2875818 Share on other sites
Wulfebane
Long Fangs for certain. If you want tank transport, do NOT buy a rhino. The rhino kit comes in the razorback, vindicator, whirlwind and predator boxes, so do yourself a favor and buy one of those instead and don't glue any of the doors so you can swap out as needed. Also, if you only have 5 Grey Hunters, you'll want a LOT more. They're debatably the best Tactical unit in the game atm. And given that we only have 2 Troop type options in a non-Logan or non-Canis army and that Blood Claws would rather dive into a trench of baddies than babysit an objective, you're better off bringing Grey Hunters for objective matches. There's so many other topics I could go into; footslogging BCs vs Sky/Swiftclaws, mech armies, elite slots, etc. You should give the forum search function a go because there are MASSIVE amounts of threads identical to this one as well as guides that can help you out. Bottom line, though.. we can't help you out too well without understanding your playstyle (mech, melee, gunline, loganwing, razorspam, etc). Welcome to the Fang! Quillen
Also, you can buy the old SpaceWolves sprue as a bits oder from GW still. I would do this for the extra bits, including 2 Power weapons and a power fist and a melta. Really helps you out. 3 Sets of those and you will be rocking. And I would do 3 packs of Grey hunters over blood claws. Blood claws are ok, but only OK. Grey Hunters and the best troop choice in the game. Not as kick ass as before, but still awesome. hendrik
welcome to the fang whelp! obviously you've still got a lot to learn but before i begin to brief you first sit down and have an ale! alright, first of all, we don't use "squads", instead we use the term "pack" this is because just like a pack of wolves usually the other bloodclaws that belong to your pack will stay with you untill the end(unless they get promoted into the scouts, the wolfguard or the skyclaws). alongside his fellow pack members a wolf rises throught the ranks. second, while small bloodclaw units are sometimes refered to in the fluff (like ragnar splitting up the bloodclawpacks in wolf's honour so they can deal with more objectives) on the tabletop there's hardly any benefit in it. usually bloodclawpacks number about 10-15 models. since you're already playing 40k for 2 years you might already have decide what your playstyle is. do you prefer a static gunline, or instead running towards your opponent. what about riding along in a rhino/razorback or dropping in from the skies guns blazing? until you can give us an idea about what style you like we won't be able to really help you since there are so many ways in which our codex can be used. Azalus
Hopefully you'll forgive my ignorance, I'll try to mitigate it for the future, but then, that's what I'm here to do, is to learn, so I'm grateful for the assistance. As far as playstyle goes, for this army I was aiming for high mobility and anti-armor. I'd have to either take transports or drop pods to position, upon reading it seems much more efficient to field packs of GH over BC. I like the concept of Skyclaws, and a Wolf Priest to keep them in line. I don't really like the look of land speeders, and swiftclaw packs seem expensive compared to TWC Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/238439-new-wolf-lookin-for-advice/#findComment-2876292 Share on other sites
