BrotherSargeantDaro
Brothers, thank you for taking the time to read this. I am an avid Black Templar collector, because they are the coolest Spacemarines in existence. But one of my best friends gave me "Battle of the Fang" to read.. and boy oh boy.... that was a good book... so here I am... because i plan on starting a SMALL space wolf force... SMALL.... What do I get? I was thinking Space Wolf battleforce, terminators, codex, rhino and devastators.. (aka long fangs) yay or nay? advice? Gunslinger87
Hehehehe, Id think it was much more probable to be "bound to happen" after seeing the wolf codex and have them sweep over your aged BT force a few times. :-) but nice to see someone appreciate the (in my opinion) good book and not just go for the strong codex. (The case of GK... everybody complains about the fluff, but many have no problem fielding the 21 point power weapon marines :-D etc.) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/238455-sigh-it-was-bound-to-happen/#findComment-2876019 Share on other sites
Wulfebane
well that is a good start but maybe add scouts. A pack of scouts come in the battleforce. @ the OP, considering you want a SMALL army, I'd say after all that, you should be set. I'd maaaaybe grab another tank transport. DO NOT BUY a rhino box. The rhino kit comes in all the other non-land raider/IG boxes. Just don't glue any doors or sponsons and swap out as needed (imo get the Razorback, though the Predator is a good choice too, but transport is pretty key for the 5th edition). Quillen
Well, Depends on what you want to do. I always do 2 to 3 Grey hunter packs. And they always have Rhinos. They are too good to walk. =P I uaully have a Landraider with another GH pack and Heroe or a Wolfgaurd pack and heroe as a hammer force. Then I pick up what ever I want. TWC are fun. If you like them. I have had 3 sets of them. Bought some and made them and then found better models and then even better. It's all into what you like. I have 6 GH packs a pack of Blood Claws, 4 Longfang packs worth of guys. 6 Dreadnoughts, 3 Preditor tanks and 2 Vindicators, 40 Wolf Gaurd Terminators and 30 WolfGaurd Power Armor models. Now if you want, you can buy the old SpaceWolf Sprue as a part from GW for like 15 bucks or so. It's really worth it. Has a Power Axe, Power Sword, and Power Fist, and a melta, along with 5 Space Wolf chests and the wolf head cloak. Awesome about of pieces daggers too. So you have alot of pieces to play with. reapercake
Yea plenty of GH and LF good for all enemies! Dreadnoughts! and the extras that come on the SW sprue's are good for modding generic marines that come with black reach etc, (that i'm sure we all have ended up with at some stage), also the Ragnar series of books are fun reads to! Thunderhawk3015
I told myself I was going to have a small Space Wolves force to go with my ultramarines 16 years ago... 16 years later, I have something on the order of 10k painted wolves and another 2-3k in various stages of assembly/painting. That said, what you plan on having is a good solid force, I'd just add in a transport or two and some TWC for some cheddery beardy goodness -_- Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/238455-sigh-it-was-bound-to-happen/#findComment-2876446 Share on other sites

If you are doing 13th comapny you can only use StormClaws (Blood Claws) Grey Slayers (Grey Hunters) Long Fangs Rune Priests Wolf Priests Wolf Guard in power armor Swiftclaws(Bikers) you can not use any tanks any terminators drop pods land speeders Dreadnaughts If you have anything you cant use its not 13th company :) your best bet would be a DIY comapny. BrotherSargeantDaro
hahaha, brothers, you make me smile! And marshal willhem... DONT LOOK AT ME LIKE THAT! what are YOU doing here?! The rest of you guys... Black Templars are my first love... they ARE the best. I just think space wolves and BTs would be unstoppable together. And I DO intend to keep it small (I won't be succesful but I will try) Problem is.... Im still a student (*gasp!*). My wallet aint that fat. Don't have a job. Not because I'm lazy, but because I'm not out of school yet. So, the wallet makes the limitations right now. I have around 2k maybe 3 of Black templars... a little less than 1k for IG and Tau and some fantastic 2k of High elves (don't hate.... they kick butt in fantasy) So yeah, I cant afford the high digits, so don't hit me with "4xrhinos, 10xlandraider and 40 terminators along with 8 dreads... and dont forget 6 GHs and 2 Bloodclaw packs" it aint happening... Im starting battleforce, grey hunters, terms and some crazy vechicles.. Forté
Ha ha. Willhem is often here. Rubbing shoulders and trading words with us Wolves. Not too sure how well us and the Templars would work though. By the time you lot have finished with prayers etc. Us wolves would have already torn the throats out if the enemy and be exchanging tales of heroism over a Mjod or three ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/238455-sigh-it-was-bound-to-happen/#findComment-2876646 Share on other sites

Im starting battleforce, grey hunters, terms and some crazy vechicles.. (maybe all bikes and land speeders) Grey Hunters are among the best, if not the best, Troop choice this edition, due to having Counter-Attack and Acute Senses, and great synergy with their standard kit: Bolter, Bolt Pistol, Chainsword, Frags and Kraks. What this does is give you a very solid core of models to play with, and if I recall the box correctly, you can pretty well make about 16 bolter Space Wolves, and about 16 BP/Chainsword "Blood Claws". This little difference in weapons loadout means so long as you include at least enough bolter marines from the battleforce box in a pack with the BP/CCW loadouts you can have up to 32 GH's on the field due to GH's having all three weapons on them, BG, BP, CCW (Chainsword). That leaves at least 2 for Wolf Guard, which can be great to give a PF. Your other vehicles will help determine the direction you're going with this army. Sounds like due to tight money, you'll want likely one or two Devastator SM packs; just to say it, you may get somewhere picking up a regular Tactical SM box. If you do, there should be enough bits to make them wolfy but have additional bodies to put in your force. Grow it a little faster, as it were. And don't mind Wilhelm, he's just trying to make sure we all think, whenever it suits him. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/238455-sigh-it-was-bound-to-happen/#findComment-2876665 Share on other sites

Wysten
One word of warning about the battle force box: Space wolves only have plasma weaponry in them, no Flamers or Meltas, which is something you may need to address later down the line. That being said, if your really desperate for money, you can always paint your Rhinos half black and half grey. Welcome! Gerwulf
I would combine the SM Battle Force with the SW battle force and add one or two boxes of long fangs (keep what you want and sell the useless stuff like meltas) and a couple razor backs. That should give you about 3 Rhinos/Razorbacks, a drop bod, 5 scouts, a unit or two of long fangs, about 40 grey hunters/blood claws. Maybe add a rune priest and some TDA WG. The TDA Wolf Guard could go into the drop pod. You can easily make a wolf lord out of the PA or TDA bits. And, the support on this forum is excellent (Arez is a bit questionable but we can't be perfect) and straight up honest (or thunder hammer blunt when it comes to Brother Ramses).
