My First Grey Hunter!

Greetings, all!

So I finally finished up my first Grey Hunter. This one was assembled from spare parts I'm not even sure where I got, although I threw in a few pieces from the Space Wolves kit I ended up buying. Let me know what you guys think! I think I shall name him Halmar

And here's a picture of him and the Blood Claw... uhhh.. Alfgar. These guys are the first, but certainly not the last!

i dont think theres much i can do for standard grey hunters armed with bolters, but i'll keep that in mind tho. i'll probably do something special for the pack leader and the standard bearer. still a lil hesistant on making anymore blood claws tho. i keep hearing they are a horrible unit to field :)

Nice stuff Volsung, everything is very well defined. I like that in a paint job, helps them pop on the battlefield.

Actually if your willing to cut and re-position a few arms there are quite a few things you can do. Here is a picture of one of my conversions to give you an idea of what can be done. We may not have true grit anymore but that does not mean you can not show some action.

Edit: removed images as he gets the idea and I want to keep the threads focus on his work.

Oh man, how come I didn't think of that! Definitely experimenting with reposing the bolter arm. I'm thinking of some pretty interesting poses, so I'll try it out on the next few pack hunters.

As for the color I used, it was codex gray with a fortress gray highlight washed with thinned down brown oil paint.

I can't tell if that's a Black Reach marine, but if not, something simple to help with the static pose is to just angle the torso and/or head at a 3/4 turn or perpendicular to the legs.

Very clean lines and ultra smooth. Great job for a first model.

Not sure what the original model was for the Grey Hunter. I know it came in a batch my homie gave to me, which was all the assorted marine bits he no longer had a use for. I remember this one looked strangely peculiar and I grew fond of the helmet, especially cuz of that huge targeting thing (had a bit of a cyber-punk anime-esque vibe to it). I know for sure it was metal, but I couldn't find it listed anywhere on games workshop's website, so I assume it's either from another company or perhaps a fake knock-off? Also, it didn't look like it was the same scale, so I had to saw off the legs and mount it on the standard plastic legs. The helmet crest/vent at the top was also really thin, so I GS-ed it to look like the typical normal plastic marine helmet.
Ahh, then it was likely an OOP Long Fang or Devastator model. The reason for my Black Reach comment is because the marines in that kit come with the torso and legs already together with no convenient way to change their stance.

oh I see. Yeah, I'll definitely take the advice into consideration when I piece together the next model.

Hah, I feel like I'm working in a junkyard. I emptied the bits bag my friend gave me on my desk, so now I have metal and plastic parts lying everywhere. Half of these, I don't even know WHERE to put on the miniature. But hey, more avenues for conversion, I suppose, right? At least, once I figure out where everything goes. :)
