As a Space Wolf player, one may take one of the current Wolf Lords or the Great Wolf, and play as their theme.

If, instead, this is not appealing, the controlling player does a DIY GC.

You:

- Create the Wolf Lord

- Model what he has in his force with your own minis

- Decide what points values you will normally play at

- Include an FOC where appropriate, or play Apoc to include it all

Assuming you're asking the question of what the Wolf Lord is like, that is entirely up to you when you first decide, and can change depending upon what changes the Lord would make based off of lessons learned.

TDA, WCx2, BoR, WTN, SotB? Go for it!

RA, SS, WC, TWM, WTN, SotB? Also, well within your rights as the general of this force.

Ok,next thing,so how would u make a new GC if all 12(cough13cough)are already made.this is now from a fluff perspective

Lost Companies (ones that left the Fang after a dispute amongst the Wolf Lords) are a possible solution.

Some just ignore this portion of the Fluff and go for what they want to play. Basically one of the Wolf Lords was a casualty and died after a fight, so this, your Wolf Lord, replaces one of the fluff ones.

Also, as many players do not use dynamic army rules, each game is basically stand alone in its own right as except I think it's Littlebitz there's no one keeping track of losses along the way. So having a unique, non-canon WL is possible, as the Codex allows for it; this also goes for the WL's outside of our HQ choices that are named. So, rather than a named yet not listed HQ WL, you get to make a WL all to your own liking and suitability.

You can also assume the roles of historical GCs (Companies that came before the current 12(13)), and since there's no doctrinated timeline of Wolf Lord succession, you can interject your Wolf Lord anywhere between the Founding of the Chapter and the present roster. I doubt very seriously that anyone will check the facts of your Wolf Lord's timeline in placement of historical doctrine...and if they do, just remind them it's a damn game and that they should get a life <3 .

I use a lost company. They left the fang following Otha a young wolf lord voted to lead them after their old Wolf Lord die on a quest. Returning to the Fang they found his rival had become great wolf and so that next night as the were feasting the new wolf lord most of them left.

From there I have a ton of stories about them wheeling and dealing and stealing thier way across the galaxy looking for Russ. They more or less started thier own hunt. And along the way they do what ever they can to help the Imperium of man.

Also you can say your company is from any point in the 40k time line. My guys left not to long after the Heresy, so they are all Mark 6 armor guys. You know, the beaky heads.

Funny, I ran into the same problem when I'm painting my Wolves. I stuck to Blackmane's colors but I didn't want to be Blackmane's company, so I opted to remove Blackmande from the picture. And so, the glorious Wolf Lord Blackmane "bought the farm", as they say, in a combat drop as his drop pod took a glancing hit from a lance battery and crash landed onto a rock formation. No survivor.

And henceforth, Wolf Lord Volsung Icefang, a former Wolf Guard and trusted right-hand man to Blackmane, runs the Icefang Company. The company maintains the Black-maned Wolf as its emblem in honor of the fallen Ragnar.

A friend of mine ran into the same problem. As he couldn't create a successor chapter, he chose to create a Great Hunt background, instead of a Great Compagny.

I think I will do the same, a Great Hunt led by a Wolf Lord count as, a Space Wolf hero inspired by Tyr (who lost his right hand, the start of a great Saga). Space Wolves packs from any Great Compagny join the Great Hunt, keeping their own emblems, but painting (or unpainting ?) their right gauntlets in iron.

Is that a valid idea ?

Couldn't he die in a more epic way? I know it's you story, but it makes me sad that Ragnar died in sucg frivolous way...

To the Open topic, I have some ideas:

1st: Decide who will be your Wolf Lord. Name him.

2nd: Built his personality. Will he be agressive? Perhaps he enjoy fighting in the frontlines, or perhaps he rather kills giant beasts!

3rd: Built him in game. For the caracter above, well he likes fighting in the frontlines, so I would give him a Frostaxe, Storm Shield, some trinkets and Saga of the Warrior Born.

4th: Decide how he would command his battle company. Maybe he likes lots and lots of scouts, or in the case above, perhaps he enjoys Blood Claws to get in the middle of the fight! I like choosing some unit to be his "main" unit. For instance:

Wold Lord Yurlen the Eternal.

Grim and resolute, he belives that only those who survive the face of death are wothy to fight alonside him.

Thunderhammer, Stormshield, Saga of the Bear, Runic Armor.

His army boasts a good number dreadnoughts and Lone Wolves. His entire Wolf Guard is composed of Lone Wolves that survived absurd odds.

i completly agree with rags deserving a more fitting death!

however i'm not sure i like your wolf guard idea either, in your gret company the only way to really get promoted is to get the rest of your pack killed? really?
