I remember reading somewhere a long time back the new wolf lord swear's loyalty to russ not the great wolf so if a wolf lord dose not care for the new/current great wolf he can simply take his GC and leave. Make's you wonder how many small wolf packs are floating about in the greater imperium?

however i'm not sure i like your wolf guard idea either, in your gret company the only way to really get promoted is to get the rest of your pack killed? really?

 

You can be a Lone Wolf without losing your pack, perhaps it's your calling, perhaps you became stranged with them, got lost somewhere, the point is that to be part of the Wolf Guard you must be above resilience, you have to be an eternal warrior and survived inumerable odds. The Lone Wolf idea was just a point. Besides, his Wold Guard could be compose of somewat 4 members that follow him into battle.

Not true.Lone Wolfs are the sole survivor's of their pack.They seek out the biggest baddest enemies to fight.If they survive they are usually inducted into the Wolf Guard.If not they do it again till THey either die or get inducted to the Guard.

 

You must be thinking of scouts.Grey hunters join the scouts if theyre touched by.....crap cant think of the name or if they get estranged like you said

That's a close interpretation of the Codex. Sure, it's because his friends died and whatnot.But it is not impossible that a Lone Wolf became one, either becase:

 

"I like this way of fighting".

 

"I have no interest in getting along with others, including fighting side-by-syde"

 

"Sorry my Lord, kinda got lost in the middle of the enemy's side, so had to go all 'lone wolf' to get here".

 

To better explain, since this is an DYI Great Company, I opened the concept of the unit, rather than just go fully what the Codex says.
