My fluffy wolves

Recommended Posts

So,on this thread I asked if I could do a topic on some fluff for my wolves.

And this is it in case you are stupid, drunk, crazy or completely blind(my condolences)

So my plan was to create a heavily Norse GC for these reasons:

1.It would suit my playing style (less vehicles, less range, more CC)

2.Space Wolves are based on the Norse mythology (duh)

3.It would be cool (yes,I went there! ^_^ )

I've already been beefing up on norse mythology books, the old norse language and the Thor comics (rich in-errr-norse culture :P )

My brain is so full of ideas they've spilled out my nose onto my sketchbook.I've got too many ideas and that's the problem...Any suggestions?

The Saga of the Beastslayer

The Saga of Thorik Wyrmsbane

Company Symbol
A year from the day of The Great Wolf's disappearance, newly inducted Sky Warriors were returning from maneuvers on worlds beyond.Their return was hastened to avoid the annual storms that affect even those mighty warriors.

Thorik Orinson was a member of this convoy,he was placed on the last planetary vehicle bound for the great fortress above the clouds.Alas, the convoy was struck by the storm and thrown to the treacherous lands. All the great warriors were thrown or jumped from the vessel as it spiraled to its icy peril below.

Most died,as the fall was high and the destination was deadly.Thorik awoke after the fall on a ledge with a cut in his head from striking a rock. His armour was in a bad condition with pieces either splintered or missing,so he cast it aside and made do with the traditional furs that were on underneath his shattered armour.

After finding he had been separated with his bolt pistol, but his trusty combat blade was still at hand.

Slowly,Thorik navigated the area.Unknown to him was that his path lead to the nearby coast. He hunted food by day and hid in caves and crags at night. This is how he lived 'til he reached a coastal inlet.

Thorin did as he always did and found a cave to sleep in,to his surprise,at the turn of the day a huge ice wyrm was to be found waiting outside the cave.Thorik,a warrior of noble blood and a young Sky Warrior trying to get a name for himself, crept to the wyrm's head and stabbed it with his combat blade. The scales of the wyrm kept out the futile attack and the beast was alerted to his presence.

From day 'til dusk they fought,Thorik with his combat blade and the wyrm with its teeth and claws. It would have been a stupendous sight,a single man fighting a beast almost 8 times his size. When night came,Thorik knew he could never slay the beast with a simple combat knife, but in the latter part of the night Thorik had just jumped backed to avoid a deathblow from the wyrm when he found a large hammer, with a anvil sized head, encased in ice behind him.He dived for the hammer and shattered the ice with his fist. With that hammer he ran at the monster and killed it with a blow to the head.He then painstakingly severed the wyrm's head from the body to corroborate his tale, for it was a tale of might indeed. He lugged the head across valleys, mountains and streams 'til he was found half dead and crazy with hunger by a search party sent to find the lost vehicle's crew.

To this day none know where the hammer came from, some say it was sent by The Great Wolf to save his son, others say it was fallen from the lost vehicle when it crashed.Even Thorik did not know but he got what he deserved and was no longer known as Thorik Orinson but Thorik Wyrmsbane.

Its not all but its as much as I can do today ^_^ Kinda rushed last bit

i start with the lord /hero the company will take his name aka blackmaine for example, there fore create the figure with the wepons / kit you like then come up with a how he made lord or wolf guard type story

so is it that he has a penchant for a particular type or style of warfare etc

then start with maybe his right hand man a wolfguard maybe this should give you a feel for the companys basic construction i use black maine company but my battle leader is much older back to rt era fluff

wolfguard johanson

he came to captain greylocks attention during the assult on kullos castle he engaged the ork warboss in melee until the wolf guard could cut through the bulk heads to reach the main assult (game)

he was asignd as a tactical advisor to a imperial army colonel early in his career giveing him some good grounding in large scale operations when his old master captain greylock fell he stood over the body defending it from a horde of steelers earning him the right to lead detachments for berek thunder fist(game), when young ragnar avengned berek thunderfist he was one of the first to bend a knee to the young lord and has served him since

this is abridged as you can imagine over the last 22 years iv racked up a few tales with him he will make a good basis if i everstart my own great company

hope this helps

So,on this thread I asked if I could do a topic on some fluff for my wolves.

This site provided pics of pre-heresy wolves. My idea was to make a GC that was created around post-heresy era...

Or something like that...

any ideas?

take a look at my company if you want,i havent updated it in abit but i still have a little fluff in there

some thoughts. firstly, if your airborne vehicle crashes so hard it manages to destroy power armour i don't see any fabrics being left awhole

second i'm not that sure about the hammer part, why would a simple hammer be more usefull against the wyrm then a combat knife? or are you refering to a thunderhammer?

how about instead of the hammer you have him gauging out the wyrms eyes, leaving the beast sightless but still highly dangerous, and then slay him, or make him cast down into the icy cold water with the beast, later arising thriumphant, holding the gnawed off head of the beast or something alike that.

third, i'm not to sure i like all of those space marines just dying from a crashed down plane. maybe have them crash down into some kind of wyrm breedingground/an ork waagh/a tyranid breedinground/a necron tomb/a tau fund raiser-party??? having all of them, fight for days with only your wolf lord left standing when the rest of your company can finally pick him up

I shouldve explained beter, first, this is his saga-so basicly its a folktale version of the real deal.second,he is still a bloodclaw here, this is just a claim to fame.i understand the confusion, sorry i rushed getting it out.more will be added tomorrow

I like it. most of Hendrik's grievances can be ignored.

The power Armour is hard substance, in a case of break or bend, power armour breaks. cloth bends.

the hammer: does it need to be explicitly told it's a thunderhammer? no.

gnawed of head? you're trying to force him into having a MotW lord for his force? come on...

it's set on Fenris. lots of ice. no mention of the period. Even space Marines, when crashing through ice, will have trouble finding the way back up, drown, or get impaled on rocks, or whatever. Ever played Deathwatch? falling kills. Also, if you read the whole text, most jumped, or where thrown out. He also isn't the only survivor, just one of the few. who knows, maybe some of those that weren't thrown out contacted the fang with the surviving equipment of the transport. The character in this story survived because he got lucky, didn't fall quite as far, and probably bounced about quite a bit, (destroying his armour in more spots than he could repair with his cement, maybe tearing off the powersource) still ending up on a ledge.

it's good to be critical, but try to be accuratly critical.

blacksad, i understand your thinking but the hammer buit was a bit because, well, maybe it's just me, but it sounded more like he found one of these:

instead of one of these:

obviously it's a bit more easy to take out a gaint wyrm with the later... :HQ:

Ahh,point there, minor changes with hammer desc tomorrow.i have to put this whole thread on hold though,we dont have any GWs down here in south africa so stuff is seriously expensive(added shipping etc)therefore a kid in grade 8 doesnt get much chance to buy a S.W battle force.ive got to wait a while to make up the money because i recently blew most of it on ps3 games and manga.so you might only be seeing minis in a few months.good news is that my never-updated-undecipherible and strange fluff will still be going strong.woopdeedoo.
A Wolf Lord is selected by members of the Companies Wolf Guard upon his death. If the Great Wolf has decided to make a Wolf Guard of Blackmane's Company a Wolf Lord then you might want to tell about the GC that went rouge or had it's own Wolf Lord and Guard killed in action. There are only 12 GC's at any given time. Explain more as to how he was moved up. Right now it sounds like the Great Wolf said," you're a stand up guy. Here's your own 100 marines. Do good."

another thing that bugs me is this:

He yearned for battle more than is common in a Blood Claw and this caused him to drop his orders and rush the enemies.Out of all the times this insubordination happened only one fellow Grey Hunter took casualty, but the command could not take the chance to let a wolf with his own agenda on the battlefield and pulled him out of active duty.

a pup that's this reckless would never even get promoted beyond being a bloodclaw, a bit like lukas the trickster, he's far to unreliable to become a grey hunter

To tell you the truth,i have bad word usage, sloppily placed info and poor ideas in the last bit,was rushing and doing homework at the same time so i'll redo tomorrow. :P

don't worry, english isn't my first or second language neither and your language is fine whelp ;) in my opinion it looks like you're rather new to playing the wolves, and even newer to their fluff, is that right?

if so i recommend you to read a couple of books, being the space wolves omnibus books that are about ragnar, a thousand sons, prospero burns and battle of the fang, the second and third edition codex. and even if you haven't read all of these books(i'm still missing the first and second omnibus*bows his head in shame*) i recommend you to reread all the fluff in our current dex. if you're not sure about some stuff you can always ask it here, as the fang (this part of the b&c) is the place to be! we even have the occasional templar dropping in because they love the atmosphere here! <_<

Thanks!im busy checking which local stores have those books, hope one's written by abnet!(personaly my favourite author)i know the basic fluff(and in some cases the more advanced)but it dosen't help to only know the basics when you're writing GC fluff
Haha thanks guys for all the help!used my friends wolf gaurd in a friendly 500 pt(yeah, really small).it was the smallest and most awesome game i've ever played!those wolf gaurd can kick arse on the battlefield![bighead=DarkCrusader] (and if you were wandering, yes,i did win  ) [/bighead]

I feel your pain about shipping to locales without a GW nearby. Even if normal shipping isn't bad from the UK site, import duty is a killer (sometimes 1/3 to 1/2 of the order price, depending on box size).

As for reading the fluff if you "have the books" you can always download a pdf ebook and read it on the computer. I have all the SW books and Horus Heresy converted into epubs on my phone. Saves having to move a library across the globe.

I haven't written much fluff for my WG yet. They're all individuals, but I'm running Loganwing so the Great Wolf tends to overshadow any achievements they make. Keep up the writing!

@Hendrik I lol'd at the hammer bit.
