Pre heresy emperors children and the aquilla

With me getting my hands on a large amount of Mk IV (4) armor from forgeworld i decided to build a pre heresy EC army. One small bump. Of I'm correct they all have a aquilla on there chest?

Sadly Mk IV doesn't have this. If I was trying to keep it in line would people recommend me replacing the chest plates?

Try Luna Wolves? Just joking. :)

Well the Imperial Eagle was a big thing back then. It was something that distinguished EC and a point of pride to them. Ommiting it is like ignoring a big part of the EC pre-Heresy character in my view. Obviously the fact that you need to buy (if you do not have already) Eagle chested torsos might be prohibiting - not to mention the extra Mk4 chest plates you are going to end up with - that are beutiful btw). Maybe you should consider another legion? Any would do.

Yeah I'm thinking I just buy a whole lot of aquilla chest pieces.

Luna wolves are a idea. Since somebody on this forum has done it and has a beautiful paint recipe for that off green that was quite easy to paint. Tho for luma wolves I'd be chasing some more Mk III armor (iron)

Other that than world eaters / emperors children have always been my two favorite legions from the traitor side. I like the look and history of the EC but love the style of WE but I'm a bit worried to paint white on a large scale as I havent painted large sections of white before.

Ahh you young whipper-snappers, in my day we used do markings with this stuff called paint..

Seriously, I'd just paint the chestplate gold, then paint out the relevant portions in purple - using Veteran Sergeant Haas's eagle as a template:

One thing to consider would be greenstuffing officers chestplates and painting the rest, the EC IA article did that with the chapter badge: rank & file had it painted on, officers had 3d sculpted ones.

@Vodunius: Are you suggesting he should file the front detail from the mk4 chest plate or fill it in with green stuff? Or paint the eagle between the exposed frontal pipework?

@OP: I think the Mk4 chest plate deserves to be kept in tact. Frankly the only viable way I see is to keep the helmets and legs and use eagle-d chest plates from your bits box. Use the Mk4 bodies in another project. Post pictures!

The latter.

Using eagle-d chest plates from the bitz box - which I'm guessing means plastics - would be easier, but you'd get annoying *bleeps* pointing out that those torso's are MkVI which didn't exist until the very end of the Heresy and are therefor just as unfluffy prior to the Siege of Terra as an eagle-less EC.

@ Vodunius: well obviously your painting skills are waaaay ahead of mine... And MkVI & MkVII were developed during the Heresy so maybe a Heresy army would be consistent. But pre- Heresy you are right it would look strange. But unless you can do justice to the overall look through your suggested technique I'd rather have this inconsistency and show the Eagle than risk messing up the final product. It all boils down to painting skill I guess...

Incorrect. I think you are mixing chest plate with shoulder pad.

Get the small aquila etched brass set from forgeworld. With your mkIVs you can use one of the smaller sized aquilas to add to the helmets like some of the Red Scorpions have. You could also cut up an aquila to fit around the pipes.
