Wings

DIDM

Recommended Posts

I have been going over my codex looking for any mention of wings, scouring tons of pictures online, and still can not figure out, besides just to do it, why this person did.

it looks cool, but it really doesn't fit, IMO. Thoughts?

It serves to set the character apart even further from the rest of the unit. Perhaps the modeler sees the Grey Knights as sort of angelic in purpose, saving the Imperium from the depredations of daemons and chaos (and conveniently ignoring their hardass fluff.)

Or he did it, as you say, to make it look cool. :)

Wow...that is worthy of the win.

As Something Wycked said, Grey Knights are the true angels of the Emperor, to be honest, seeing a Grand Master standing before the tide of darkness with a halo of light and unfurled wings is an inspiring sight...that and it is cool as hell lol

I'd imagine it would rank right behind seeing a Primarch pre Heresy.

he really looks great, but aren't there enough angels? I sound like I don't like it, I really do, it just has me thinking too much it appears. I'm getting 2 boxes of plain old knights, maybe I will make a winged squad and call them my Archangels.

Gosh, you can be so dense sometimes. Let me explain this to you. Those Grey Knights OBVIOUSLY (I mean I don't know how you missed it) killed a Greater Daemon Chicken, and used its feather's as trophies / completely unfashionable fashion accessories. I mean, DUH! ^_^

I do not like it. On the grounds he might as well added a wolf to it to make it the "Dark Grey Blood knights of the Wolf Templar" It is painted well and nicely based but the main model is TACKY and the others are just average (due to being Stock metal GKT) and as it is the main Mini looks like something I could buy directly off a 3rd party site.

All I can say is wow, I never thought I'd see the Grey Knights as even more badass! Thanks for sharing this DIDM.

If feathers make you think something is badass, are you a big fan of peacocks?

one of my favorite places on Earth raises peacocks

they are very pretty during the day, but when you are sleeping in a tent and they start screaming bloody murder at 5 AM right outside your tent then they are not so cool.

+1. people pass off bad conversions with great paint jobs. The paint work is beautifully but the conversion is 'tacky' feathered wings shouldn't by busti out of the vents on a grey knights terminator armour. It's a childish conversion when someone gjusttacka wings onto an armoured model for no good reason. Usig sang guard wings on terminator armour for decoration would have been a better choice as you can paint them so they look like they are part of the armour. The other thing is conversions with marines with completely undersized wings to achieve any sort of flight inside or outside of their armour is becoming rather common. I think the artist has spooky his work with those wings, hey maybe we should just add tails to my marines, that would actually have more practical use.

Why is it these forums never eencourage constructive critiszm? It is the same reason I do no put models up on these sites because everything anyone does is always 'awesome' and 'amazing'. Maybe I'm wrong and tacking feathered wings on a terminator is 'cool'.

I'm tots just a hater haha.

... Haters gonna hate...

... Haters gonna hate +1...

:P

These forums do encourage constructive criticism- particularly when the modeler/painter asks for it. Its asked for so often that we've invented a shorthand version of asking for comments and criticisms- "C&C welcome!"

Calling it a "bad" and "childish" conversion with "tacky" wings solely because you don't personally like the idea of wings coming out of Grey Knights Terminator armor is not constructive criticism. It is your opinion. The same can be said of your sarcastic comment about tails, and your assertion that a plastic toy soldier with this particular size of wings cannot realistically fly when the soldier is a figment of our collective imaginations, along with his wings, when he comes from a universe where the laws of physics are completely different from ours, if they exist at all (they sure don't in the warp!)

Really, the one piece of actual constructive criticism you offered is the idea that using the Sanguinary Guard wings might be better for the model.

In this hobby, I am well within my rights to build every single model with feathered wings on their backs if I think it looks cool. In my Blood Angels army, it would even be WYSIWYG tourney legal for a 100% Descent of Angels jump packer list.

And, by the Throne, the guy won a Golden Daemon award for this squad. Its absolutely beautiful. If my painting ability ever reaches the point where I'd be comfortable submitting my miniatures to a local painting competition I'll be ecstatic :D

Of course. But people can constructively point out that wings don't have anything to do with Grey Knights, yes? Because I think it is... weird... odd... peculiar to put giant feathers on Grey Knights. Even if, like I suggested earlier, the GKTs killed a Greater Daemon Chicken. :D I just don't see them killing the Daemon Chicken and then deciding to pluck its giant feathers and wear them. And it is even less likely they would raise Giant Non-Daemon Chickens in order to use their feathers.

Now again, a person is well within their rights to do whatever they want to models. Have their Blood Angels wear 3 wolf pelts each, have Space Wolves all wear pink tutus, make all of their Ultramarines deformed mutants, etc; etc; etc; You put that stuff online and people are going to tell you what they think. If you don't want any opinions, then DON'T POST.

blah blah blah... solely because you don't personally like the idea of wings coming out of Grey Knights Terminator armor is not constructive criticism.

Do you have some extra special knowledge that everyone else lacks? Read that OP again. READ IT. Is that OP asking for constructive criticism on their own paint job? NO. They are putting up a picture of someone else's work, and are expressing confusion over the choice of fashion accessories. No one is even asking for constructive criticism here.

So unless there is some missing info that you are privy to, what the hell are you rambling on about constructive criticism for? Confusion / Displeasure over wings on GK is the point of this thread!

Dur... I hope someone is currently enjoying alcohol or other mind altering substances...

Again.... This thread is not about constructive criticism, nor is it about helping out a painter / converter. The OP didn't paint the stuff, he just posted the picture because he is puzzled by the conversion choice made. You go off and whine about people giving their opinions on that choice, which is ODD since that is the whole freaking point of the thread. To opine on that conversion choice. This thread is *NOT* about constructive criticism. I am flabbergasted that you *still* have not figured that out yet.

So tell me again why you are complaining about people giving opinions in a thread on opinions? Do you enjoy being completely irrelevant? Why the hell did you double down on your mistake instead of taking 30 seconds to realize you were completely off base?

I mean really what the hell is the point of saying "haters gonna hate" in a thread simply about whether people like a particular conversion? The OP IS ASKING WHAT PEOPLE THINK OF THE CONVERSION HE FINDS STRANGE. THAT'S THE POINT OF THE THE THREAD. To go off on someone for doing what the OP asked is totally and utterly insane. Are only pro-wings posts allowed or something. Grow up people.

thank you. Something wycked, I'm not saying people can't out wings on their model and I don't deny how beautifully painted the models are. My personal opinion is that the conversion looks tacky and childish. One o the irst conversions I see kids in my local store is when they stick feathered wings to space marines and I personally think it looks silly. Now I know the laws of physics are broken in the game but for most thing the game tries to stay relatively realistic within reason, I think wings on 300kg+ marine should be a lot bigger if meant for flight which these particular ones are not but that is again just my opinion.

Now I never said that the artist was looking for C&C I just used it as an example as to why I don't post my stuff as all it recieved is praise and I think people on forums can be too nice (if there's is such a thing) and don't giv people advice rather just moral support. Anyway enough of this, I think the models are beautifully painted however the conversion let's down the piece for me.

I'm not liking the way this topic is trending. Opinions are all well and good, but when people immediately go on the offensive and start belittling other posters for posting their opinions.... :)

I think you know who you are. And I am watching.

Closing it for now. Might possibly open it again after a cooling off period. But don't hold your breath.
