Julgolax
I think when I can restart my chaos marines I'm going with undivided, so, that said I'm just going to make something straitforward and evil looking, but how can I do this in a way that's new? The general appearance I'm going for is all black armor that's not neglected or old but is more-so touched by chaos. The trim will be as black as the armor but I wanted to pattern the trim on every marine with very small and numerous runes of Chaos, much like the runes of the Space Wolves but more occult looking, sort of like the difference between the Eldar and Dark Eldar in appearance and in their runes. Chaos Space Marine squads will be less "glowy" and detailed than higher ranking warriors and the prevailing theme here is "bale light" I want the armor of Elites and HQ choices to have a brighter glowing effect on the trim of their armor along with brighter red runes to make it seem like the armor is blessed by chaos rather than ruddy up my army with self-destructive mutations. If anyone has some thoughts on this idea, I'd like to hear them. In addition to the runes and such, the exposed flesh of the army is going to be a very light tan color, something between pallid flesh and regular flesh. I was hoping to have a chaos army that doesnt have EVERY marine with a helmet crowned in horns. Studded, spiked, corvus pattern, things that aren't necessarily copy/paste from the next guy's army. Does anyone have any conversion ideas? As a side note, I've tried gathering a group of 5 corvus pattern helmets and defacing them but the most interesting idea I could come up with is replacing the beak itself with a pair of chainblades like a pincer and a Chaos Star green stuff pattern similar to the helmet worn by Shrike. Believe me, you don't want to see them. I suck at green stuffing. As for a name that isnt corny or out of canon, I was thinking of simply the Sacrilegists, but if that's corny, I also was thinking the Malign Host. Any feedback is greatly appreciated! darth_giles
Brotherhood of Darkness? No problem, I'm sure it'll look amazing. I'd suggest using mechrite red as the base red color, and then going over them delicately with blood red for the more glowy runes. Leave a decent border of red showing to enhance the glowy look. Hemal
I'd start off by carefully outlining round the rune in codex grey or necron abyss or even black mixed with Ice blue to create an artificial edge highlight. Then paint in the rune in mechrite red, shard the edges in mechrite + black, highlight up through blood red to blazing orange, and then apply a couple f thin glazes of blazing orange (and I mean thin..) onto the highlight to give a glowing effect of source lighting Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/238751-black-chaos-marines-with-red-runes/#findComment-2880503 Share on other sites

Cynic
I like Malign Host as the warband name. Regarding the runes, start with a lighter colour like grey or white then paint a red tone over when dry. This will bring up the red quicker. I'm a black spray cultist, but you'll be there forever trying to bring red up straight from black - and it's going to look a very dull shade too. Hemal
Or start mechrite which covers very well... and then build up highlighting the middle of the runes Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/238751-black-chaos-marines-with-red-runes/#findComment-2883080 Share on other sites
