masterchief4312
Hey guys, I will most likely be playing against my friend's Tau on Friday, so I figured I'd see what you guys think of my list Rune Priest - 130 • LL, JotWW • Wolftooth Amulet • Runic Armour 5 x Long Fangs - 145 • 2 Missile Launchers • 2 Lascannon 5 x Long Fangs – 130 • 3 Missile Launchers • 1 Lascannon 7 x Grey Hunters - 185 • Melta, Power Fist, MotW • Rhino 7 x Grey Hunters - 185 • Melta, Power Fist, MotW • Rhino 7 x Grey Hunters - 190 • Power Fist, MotW, Wolf Standard • Rhino 6 x Wolf Guard - 533 • Terminator Armour • 3x Wolf Claw Pairs • 2 x Power Fists • 1 x Wolf Claw (single) • Land Raider Crusader o Multi Melta grand total of 1498. A little background. I included the lascannons with the long fangs to help take out all of the vehicles (plus, i don't have enough missiles for missile spam). I usually run squads of 9 Grey hunters, but had to drop 2 from each in order to clear up enough points for the Land Raider (so that my termies don't get shot to hell). Finally, I figure that Living Lightning should work well against the lower AV vehicles (Pirhanas), and Jaws should work wonders against those initiative 2 fir warriors and battlesuits. Anyways, does anyone have any tips or suggestions about what to change (if anything)? However, if you would like to roll over him like a bulldozer, switch one pack of Long Fangs for a pack of 5 Wolf Scouts with a meltagun and a WG with PF/CM and take Swiftclaws with a biker Lord instead of those Wolf Guards in LRC. He won't know what hit him. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/238869-1500-pt-list-against-tau/#findComment-2881894 Share on other sites
masterchief4312
sounds like a good choice. only problem is, i don't have any bike units (or scouts for that matter) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/238869-1500-pt-list-against-tau/#findComment-2881925 Share on other sites

You will not be in combat for very long, and so that big investment for just one more attack seems inefficient to me. A combi-Mg or combi-Pg are a better deal, imo. If your opponent has Piranhas [for move-blocking the LR] and Railguns, the LR should go down. But will that happen before or after the Wolf Guard have been delivered? :P If you friend is online, he can check out my signature "How Tau" for good ideas on how to make the most out of the aged C:TE book. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/238869-1500-pt-list-against-tau/#findComment-2881937 Share on other sites
masterchief4312
It's only 10 points for the first claw, and 5 for the 2nd. and for the railguns, i will probably just split the long fangs fire so that the lascannons can target the hammerheads and the broadsides (in order to negate the 2+ save) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/238869-1500-pt-list-against-tau/#findComment-2881957 Share on other sites
Blacksad
actualy it's 5 for the first (since WC + SB is usefull, WC + PW is not) 10 for the second, and you lose your shooting :woot: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/238869-1500-pt-list-against-tau/#findComment-2883920 Share on other sites
Wulfebane
Not sure what you're doing with your Rune Priest, but I think the Wolf tooth amulet and Runic armor is a bit overkill. You sorta don't want your RP in close combat (some people would say otherwise) and would be better off keeping him inside a rhino, popping off shots of LL until he gets close, then sniping with JotWW. IMO, for those 30 points, you could go with an additional 2 Grey Hunters, or another 2x Wolf Standards with points over to upgrade two of your rhinos into razorbacks, a lone wolf with a myriad of gear choices, another Long Fang with a hvy bltr/ML/MM or even P-cannon with some more tweaking elsewhere. A Lone Wolf with TDA and/or SS charging up the middle field creates an amazing (and cost effective!) distraction and is able to soak up a LOT of fire power before dying. I also agree with Vlk regarding the Scouts for LF packs. Another thing I'd change to free up a TON of points... you have 6 Wolf Guard, so it's barely a decent amount to even necessitate a Land Raider, especially a Crusader class. Unless you plan on putting more than the 6 WG in the LRC (such as your RP - which again, unadvised) then you only need the LRRedeemer and can cut down another 10 pts. However, I would suggest either switching some of the WG into Power armor OR dropping down to only 5 TDA in that squad and put them in a drop pod. You can put the 6th WG with a different pack as leader. The reason for the Power Armor is to both free up some elbow room in the drop pod (allowing more WG inside) and it gives the pack access to assault grenades which negate the need for the LRC's frag launchers. And as it's obvious that the intent for your WG is to enter melee as quickly as possible (due to the lack of ranged weaponry) makes my suggestion of a drop pod more poignant. Also, since you have over 5 WG, it's a veritable sin not to take a special weapon. Again, since you're looking to get into melee, then I'd suggest the hvy flamer or assault cannon...but should you drop the LRC for a drop pod, I think you'll find a great deal more points where taking an ass. cannon (or even cyclone) will be cost effective. If you don't have a drop pod model, since this guy claims to be your friend, I'm sure he'd be ok with you using like a soda can or coffee tin or something to represent it. You could even make some sort of paper cone or w/e to function as a proxy. --- A thing to remember, Tau (like IG) tend to be a very "shooty" gunline army. Their ultimate goal is to make sure that you do not reach them in close combat. The less models you put on the table, the easier it will be for the Tau player to pick off your packs before you reach him. Things like deep striking assault units (via jump packs, drop pods, or even obel) will utterly destroy that gunline. Phew... sorry for the TL;DR potential.
