You know you've been modeling too much when...

Recommended Posts

I know this may not be applicable but i had a new experience today:

I walked into my FLGS and purchased some warmachine Cryx Hell jacks and all of my warhammer friends seeing me do this all shook their heads in dissaproval. It was the most shameful drive home I can remember...

That's absolutely awesome topic! Have few more from last 3 weeks:

... when you're finding bits in your long hair and beard and no one at the office said anything to you about that.

... when you're criticising super glue your wife is using for her needs, suggesting her that awesome 11% polyurethane super glue you're using.

... when your younger brother is learning english, and he cannot remember "vegetables" but he knows exactly what is "possession", "twin-linked".

... when you have to throw away unused condom because you accidentally cut it with x-acto blade.

... when people look strangely at your hands because they are covered with black-coloured super glue.

... when you can open a pot or hydrogen peroxide with one hand and apply it onto another.

... when you have to take a sick leave from your work because you cut your finger badly.

... your wife opens envelops with your x-acto knife, and she knows exactly which one of two is sharper and may be used only for precise plastic work.

... when you say to your wife "I can't figure out how to do that kind of conversion" and she clearly remembers your bits and suggests something useful.

... when you decided to actually keep all your close on the floor because wardrobe suits perfectly for your vehicles.

... when your wife knows all the rumours about next 2-3 releases from GW and knows when the budget is tight.

... when you look at some abstractionist art and think: "hm, that's awesome idea, with some pinning will make awesome conversion".

... when you're thinking "no, I do not need a new cell phone yet, this one will hold few month longer, I'd better buy two more battleforces because I'm running out of those bits...".

... when your parents bring you empty plastic food packages because they are good for storing your bits.

... when you're saving photos of nude girls into folder "painting/airbrush/skin".

... when your mom can't remember how many years your brother have to learn at school but she knows exactly how many points each one of his 3 armies are.

When your space wolves armies has a couple of the gw carry case foam trays just full of character conversions.

When your solid wood desk, rather then being used for studying and laptop holding, is instead covererd with bits, your moddelling area, your bits boxs and paint boxes.

Your thinking of getting a bigger bits box.

You've got your student loan, and are thinking of ordering an oberon class battleship (bfg), an exorcist class grand cruiser, a contemptor dreadnought, a wraithseer and the call to arms star treck federation fleet boxset.

You are considering stripping most of your army to repaint it as you are better at painting then when you did them.

You have made enough versions of the same HQ charecter to feild them as a "count as" obliterator sorcerer coven.

You watch a program on the Titanic, and start thinking of building scenery that look likes bits of Olympic class liner, in particular you think of modelling a bow section embedded into a giant hill.

You are considering stripping most of your army to repaint it as you are better at painting then when you did them.

You know you're in too deep in this hobby when you consider the above, knowing that once you've painted them again, you'll have the same feeling and start again (again), and you won't/don't care! ;)

I often go back to older models and adapt them. I recently removed mold lines from some of my first painted marines and then repainted their legs because if that ^_^ I am constantly adapting my older minis to my newer standard with additional detail and such things :(

When you can write your army lists (Thousand sons) without the codex because you can remember the pts costs (may say more about the codex then me though  )

When your asking people about playing 2nd edition just so you have an excuse to actually use half the conversions you have made.

When you get an idea for a narrative campaign at 11 something whilst modelling/converting/painting something, go to post it on your gaming clubs facebook page only to find out in the morning you posted it on your uni's LGB society's page :D (It actually got a couple of likes). and no one commented.

When your ebay account has your sister and mum's stuff, and then just various models on it as your section.

When you have stopped getting cuts on your fingers.

When you don't notice the times you do cut yourself by accident.

When the cat/s have learned not to go on your desk.

When an old rhino with multi melta that you bought second hand when you first started that is really nicely painted is used in the house as an ornament (have been thinking of selling it though.

When you are thinking of blowing a good percentage of your student loan in one week, have thought "I'm going to have to pay this back one day", and still thinking of blowing it on models.

That one of your flatmates came to you when her giant coffee mug had broken for you to fix it, and is then impressed with the job you've done. (It was the handle, several months later is still holding).

When you say "I need money for uni books" to relatives concerning your birthday, you know half of it is going to go on FW/ebay/other modeling companies/meal storm games.

When all presents are ignored but that one person who buys you warhammer is like a shining god, and all you respond with is a quiet wimpering thank you.

when you guess all your chirstmas gifts a warhammer by matching the shape of currently owned boxes with the ones under the tree.

the scowl you give when said boxes have t-shirts in them.

Mother dearest did this to me this last year.

When I was twelve, my crazy aunt sent me a calander (that had no June and two Augusts, and my birthday is in May) a few cheap pencils, and some cheap things you get from 4 for £ at some place. She put all these in a star wars lego bow, somehow closing it so it looked unopened. I rang her up to thank her, she said nothing. You can guess my reaction when I opened it :( .

More of a painting one

- in a art class we had to identifity colours (what a useful thing to be learning in a grade 11 science class eh?) so my friend and I start wrioting down boltgun medal, chaos black etc and we actually got extra credit

... When you start seeing mold lines everywhere and wish that you had your modeling tools to hand. This happened to me on the bus, crazy times.

On this point my computer chair has loads of mold lines, must correct....

All of these right now...

... When your Local GW is closing down and the manager says on the last day who wants the bitz boxes? Me being the only guy in the store at the time i have a fit of joy, and then i had to get my mum to pick me up instead of the going on the train because of the 12 huge boxes of bits i had just been given. (THIS IS TRUE)

Cryx? No wonder. Buy the good, solid metal of Mother Khador, and at least the BT players will respect you, since they appreciate a good beat down. (Okay, they MIGHT have a problem with WM based on that whole "Witch" thing, but hey...) :D

When you identify any colour, including sunsets and cars, in terms of GW paint names. (Until they changed them)

When you cut your self and your first thought is 'Did it get on my models!?'

When between painting models, you go on the internet to post about painting models.

All of my jealousy. Lucky git. :)

...you have to go to the hospital because you just gouged open your hand with a hobby knife.
Such a wannbe ;)

When you decide not to go to the hospital after slicing yourself open, because you have the super glue to hand and it will save the 3+ hour wait in A&E.
