DIDM
is there a reason he doesn't come with a Standard? Are you expected to buy a bit or make your own or something else? Godhead
I took the banner from the bits that came with the chaos daemons seekers. I however used the bearer as a packleader instead of a wolf standard bearer simply because he was a cool model and came with a left handed powerfist. Chapter Master Ignis Domus
I think that there isn't supposed to be a standard, as it would just get ripped to pieces in the intense battle that most line squads would get into. I was thinking something like this, but then what is the point of having a soldier carry the pole? Isn't it supposed to give moral support to soldiers? http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1240684_99060101132_Col40kSWStandardMain_445x319.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/239119-standard-bearer/#findComment-2885109 Share on other sites
Chapter Master Ignis Domus
It does, though. That's why the VI is there. It also means the Wolves can see that the Standard Bearer is still there fighting in the heart of it because he's carrying this really tall stick. They say forget the banner, we can just tell them it was destroyed in battle? Should my SB have a banner? Additionally, the metal boxed sets for the different types of Wolves packs came with some banners, too. That stuff isn't prevalent now like it used to be, so you're on your own. Should be relatively easy to find an image online and print it, if you can't freehand something. Chef Wulfen
its a kool model. and think of it this way look at the wars where standards or flags where carried into battle as a ralling point or a point of hope even if it was bullet ridding it stood. i plan on making on for my wolf lord with this body guards nothing more really then just a center piece. but if i was fight in the thick of it and i was our banner flying it would just give me that little bit more strength i needed to fight longer or harder to win the day. but i do with GW would have made us a plastic one like the grey knights have in there terminator set. clanfield
i beleve the intention was for it to be a great company banner bearer it he went in the lords body guard in the 3rd eddition codex in second he went in a wolf guard unit as well , just use ether tin foil or paper and hand draw a design for your company then paint em up the old metal wolf guard were verynice sculptscatching the char of the wolves well Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/239119-standard-bearer/#findComment-2885167 Share on other sites
red_starrise
If you do a google search you'll find quite a few DIY banners, heck I even have some I can email you if you need, there's also some banner templates & blanks you can DL from here in the downloads section though they aren't quite as wolfy as they are Ultra-smurfy. Honestly, I prefer these type instead of the ones like in the command squad set or even worse, the grey knights terminators set where the stupid thing has the scene already molded on AND it's all one piece: banner, arm, pole, t-bar so it's all that much harder for all the grey knight armies to have different standards for the less adept modellers out there. I was cursing the pre-molded banners the other day when trying to do the chapter banner for my IF honour guard lol. It is a shame though that space wolves no longer have a wolf guard standard bearer, I had made a really nice one in terminator armor to accompany my wolf lord in 3rd Ed. Wulfebane
As Valerian said, that model was intended to have a cutout paper banner from the 2nd Edition codex draped from it, such as this: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2607/3955807034_5ba7a8016d_z.jpg Since paper cutouts seem to be a thing of the past, alternately you could try using the banner given in the SW pack box and do something like these examples: http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f365/ilthion/13thcompany003.jpghttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/12/10/68994_sm-Grey%20Hunter,%20Space%20Wolves,%20Wolf%20Standard.JPG Also, since they're called standard bearers and not banner bearers, etc, you could do as the Romans and make a wolfy totemic version of these guys: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/26/Roman_Standards.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/239119-standard-bearer/#findComment-2885179 Share on other sites
DIDM
I will be getting a Captain with that last Wolf's same banner, he is coming from Finland to the US though, so it will be some days. He is tricked out though, and could easily be a HQ. I wouldn't want to "waste" him on a banner holding mission when his claws scream use me. I'm new to this, I will explore the option of forgetting about that guy and moving on Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/239119-standard-bearer/#findComment-2885189 Share on other sites
