Sons of Medusa

Good day to you all, long time lurker first time poster joining this community and I thought i'd start by sharing my latest project.

I've decided to do a Sons of Medusa army.

Why? Because they are bright green and they have an awesome history being a former part of the Iron Hands and links to the Mechanicum.

I'm starting this army from scratch using a bunch of old models from my bitz box and buying new ones to fill in the gaps.

The first thing i'm going to share is the HQ. And for this I really had to choose a Master of the Forge. It's almost compulsory for the Iron Hands to have some techmarine representation so I thought i'd start there.

I also have rejoined the 40k hobby after many years of not playing, so most of my armies are early 3rd edition models that need replacing.

When looking at the codex i thought it was a typo that the Master of the Forge could have a bike and a conversion beamer. Until I looked online a few months back and saw what people had done. I got Beamer envy and set about making my own one. (As a former rogue trader player I have a soft spot for old stuff like the C-beamer)

I've also started a blog on this and my other painting projects here

Now this isn't my prettiest work by any means, but it is the first time i've attempted a conversion greater than a head swap.

Currently, I'm working through what will go in the army. And looking at what I can salvage out of my box of good marines, and my bits box of the damned

I've also repainted an old school dready

The main issue with this is his base is an old warlord titan base that had an accident. I really need to look at getting a better base and remounting him.

Are the GW dready bases any good? Or should I go for something more exotic like the ironhalo ones. I'm cagey about basing for some reason.

Went down to my local GW to show the guys what i've been working on. Got some shots down there of a sternguard squad and some of my tactical dudes.

Just got an air brush, a compressor and a rhino kit as well, so im gonna try painting that up bright green as well.

Im using techmarines as my veteran sergeants for the army, i think that has the right look

Aiming to get 2 tactical squads and the sternguard done up. Then, perhaps a squad of devys

Very nice work, I like the use of the servo arm backpack (presumably spare from the Tech/Sgt?) on the far left marine in the 1st pic, is that a counts-as combi-melta?

What have you done with the claw bit from the servo-arm, it could make an excellent power fist for another Sgt or something?

Yep, good spotting that servo arm is indeed a combi-melta

I haven't used the claws bit yet as i've got heaps of cool bits for power fists. I picked up the Iron Warriors smith character and he has an awesome claw to use on the next sergeant.

The iron hands box has some good bionic bits and i've made some more using greenstuff and guitar string.
