volrath8754
Hey guys and gals I have finally got the time to build a trench board and the forge-world Trench system is still not available. So I was wondering if anyone has seen something similar for sale any ware. I have absolutely NO interest in those so called trenches that are sit on the top of the table I am looking for trenches to sink into pieces of pink foam. If i have to I will just cut the trenches out and put sand bag trench tops from TerranScapes (link) But frankly I want something more Sci-Fi than that. While I am extremely handy with power tools of all kinds I am not an accomplished artist and frankly anything that I try so scratch build I will have to keep really simple or it will look like trash which is why I am looking for something like the forge world trench system. So if any one has any suggestions please shout away. Thanks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/239332-trench-warfare-table-need-advice/ Share on other sites
muadib02
the inner walls of the trenches could easily be lined with plasticard and some sort of little support struts...thus making it look more like prepared trench walls as opposed to a hole with sandbags. As to Sci-finess...well i really do not see scifi and trench as going together in any special way. darth_giles
If you've got a set of Hirst Arts molds, you could probably make some using either the fieldstone or gothic block molds; carve out your foam table topper, and then build the trenches one block at a time, then add gubbins either from GW and Forge World, or Bruce's machinery builder molds. The mold system itself is really easy to work with; just order in your molds, and then cast blocks using whatever casting plaster you prefer. Plaster of Paris and Hydrocal both work, although a lot of people order in special ultra-hard dental stone. That's actually how I got the rocks for my Word Bearers' battle bases; I poured my leftover dental stone into a Woodland Scenics "outcroppings" mold. volrath8754
Awesome thanks for the reply guys I have actually done some casting before so that shouldn't be an issue I don't know why I didn't think of hist arts. I'm going to have to check out their site. Elric the Silvercoat
We had a set of trenches at my LGS and I thought they were cool and looked like something Imperial Guard or Space Marines would make if they needed trenchs. How they were done was by putting two pieces of pink foam together with glue. The bottom layer was 1/2 to 1" thick and 5" wide, can be any length, pink foam and the top layer was 1 1/2" thick and 3" wide, length to match bottom piece, pink foam. It was then carved using a small shovel like tool from a hobby store, I forgot the name I will look it up and post it. This gave it the "dug" look of a trench. Then the person used the 1/8" wooden sticks to make supports for it. It was really cool and reality. It was painted brown and then given static grass on the flat area not in the trench. Edit for tool. http://shop.hobbylobby.com/products/cleanu...kit-set-121236/ Like the sixth and seventh one.
