Salamanders Army - a long time coming

Recommended Posts

The ork stomping assault marine is in base colours and the rest of his squad is done.

Progress otherwise has been (typically) slow. I had to strip and repaint the metal parts for the landraider crusader (and a few other marines besides) as I forgot to prime them properly and their paint was flaking off. So to distract from the lack new stuff here is an action shot of the terminators a mate look in last weekends game.

Woo! Had a productive painting day and finished the assault squad.

That gives me 1850 points fully painted. Every thing from now on is just for the sheer fun it.

Thanks Brother Malice. Funnily enough I've started work on an Armageddon desert/blasted wasteland carry tray for the army. (I suspect that I've messed it up and not left enough space on it for the army.....) And yes, I felt I just had to include a couple of RBT1 bits in there to tie it in with the rest of the army. :P

Works like a charm the bit mesh-up!

As for the base, I had the similar problem when I was doing my Armies on Parade entry. I ended up with a diarama instead of a display. One piece of advice I can give you, have another board, same as intended size, set up, with all your army on it. side by side... It will keep you aware of all the pieces that need to fit the board, and will prevent you from forgetting it.

Just my two cents bro, hope it helps you!

Yeah, I will certainly do that next time mate. (Beginners mistake is all I can chalk it up to.)

Until the carry tray is done here are two the heavy weapon marines I distracted myself with while I was supposed to be painting assault marines.

I decided the dread wasn't finished after all.

So far I've added the script to the purity seals ands some minor flame outline detail to break up the slabs of green and added depth to the gold colours.

You guys probably can't tell the difference but I'm 10x happier with the model now. :)

And here is my chaplain. He keeps getting left out of photos as he has sat out all my recent battles. (Not much room for him with the great whack of points the Forgefather costs.)

He got a weapon swap back in 3rd ed to have a thunder hammer (as Salamander chaplains were once entitled to). Had to redo his crozius with spare parts once Codex Armageddon fell by the wayside.

As promised Brother Melice, here is an army shot of all the painted units so far,

It comes to 1850 points (plus a spare transport and chaplain).

Nym468 - The sun has gone down so I'll wait until I have better light to take the pictures for you. Tomorrow I promise!

Vonny and Borther Melice - I know I've made you wait for ages but I'll have to ask you to wait a little more (see above). But the final coat of paint and glue are drying right now.

Update!

Here is the display tray. It look a bit barren with nothing on it:

It is a little cramped in the end. This is around 1750 point worth and the army barely fits. :) Next time I'm work out the area I need more precisely and not take up so much space with stuff like those rock spires. And I'd prefer something to stop marines falling off the back and sides when they are carried around too!

Ideally I'd be working on Bray'arth Ashmantle right now but there were pieces missing from the order. So I've slapped some green paint on my omni-dreadnought. Here is a WIP photo as in many ways the green is the easy bit.

Can you post some close ups of the prone marine, I'm thinking of doing this with a couple models?

Here you go mate. All I really did was cut regular Mk6 legs at the hip and knee joints and re-glued them in place. I chose Mk6 as they are more forgiving as to where the knee is pointing. If I did it again I'd use a little greenstuff to rebuild the hosing I cut out and use a 40mm base. (He look awkward on that little 25mm one.)

It's full, but I wouldn't say it's cramped from these pictures. Everything gets enough room to be seen individually, without looking to huddle together too much. What's the dimensions of this board?

anyway, you make me wish to start and plan out the display board for my marines. Seeing as how I still need a ton of stuff to paint that's supposed to go onto it, I guess I'd just as well paint that first though...

Thanks for the pics
You're most welcome. :)

That paintjob is so sharp it can cut glass. Nicely done!
Thanks mate. That is just how I like my marines. (I admire those guys and gals who can weather their astatres well it just isn't for me.)

Done some more work on the omni-dread. Still a work in progress but the other colours are mostly blocked in now. What is really slowing the project down are all the other arms. I've magnatised 7 arms for it.

Assembled all the bits I have for Bray'arth and built a base for him and the other dreadnought I was working on. I'm getting impatient and might even undercoat him and start while waiting for his head and banner bits.
