New to Wolves and TT

Hey guys, its good to be back on the B&C. I have been involved with 40k for years upon years and know tons of fluff, but I am just now starting to dip my feet in the TT aspect of the hobby. As it says in the title the Grey hunters have me a little bit confused. What makes them so good? I see in their Wargear it says they have Bolter, Bolt pistol, and CCW. So does this mean the can run around toting bolters then get the +1 attack on the charge for having two CCWs? Also, how does WYSIWYG work with that? Does it just depend on what I model them with or do they just have it? My friend and I have been going back and forth on this and I haven't come across a straight answer yet so any help is greatly appreciated.

GH are being boasted as some of the best Troop choices in the game currently because of their loadout and their special rules.

Yes they are equipped with ccw/bp/bolter, however WYSIWYG does not dictate that said gear be represented because it is the standard gear load out. When you start to buy gear, then you need to start representing it on the model.

The main gist for Grey Hunters is exemplified in a couple of scenarios,

Grey Hunters speed up 12" in a Rhino and disembark. Because they cannot assault that turn, they rapid fire. They can then sit there and absorb an assault from a diminished enemy while passing their special Counter-attack rule and getting as many attacks as if they charged. Of course they could have declared use of their wolf standard before the assault phase so that they are then re-rolling all 1's rolled.

Compare that to a standard tactical SM squad.

^This^

Basically they have everything that tac marines do, Plus CCW, Acute Senses, Counter Assault, the ability to take 2 assault weapons, all for cheaper. That is what makes them so good, is their value for the points cost.

Welcome to the game and the forum

Word. In terms of loadout CSM can do the same thing, but they lack the counter-attack rule so they get charged, they only have 2 A each whereas a GH squad gets charged they have 3 A each plus the wolf standard & mark of the wulfen makes them a much greater threat because some of us tend to roll alot of ones lol. And the mark of the wulfen guarantees at least 2 attacks but can give up to 7 & w/ the wolf standard, theoretically, you're almost guaranteed at least 3 in the first turn.

Wow, thank you all so much for the speedy responses and answering my questions perfectly. GH are turning out to be troops perfectly suited for me and my play-style. One more thing, what does the Acute Senses special rule do? I tried to look it up in that little pocket rulebook that comes in AoBR but I couldn't find it. Once again I greatly appreciate your responses and thank you for the warm welcome.
