Iron-Daemon Forge
ELG Counter Attack 2011 "successfully decapitating his predecessor during a bloody battle which will be long remembered in legend and in song." Hi everone Today I attend a tournament in Edinbrugh by the ELG gaming club, ELG Counter Attack & have been attending since 2008 when they held Warhammer 40k Radio world wide war. I took my Space Wolves army, which a year ago this was there first tournament & since then have been earn a lot of glory & saga in the name of the Allfather & Leman Russ. I like attend tournament, battle new oppents, diffrent armies or you'd not normal battle in your local gaming scene & seen some cool armies. You also learn new tactic & way to deal with armies out there. So before going into my Battle report. I'll get my army list posted, then do report (just note, not turn by turn) with lots of photos & then with it being a year on, go thought he chose of my army list & why I took the units or gear that I took.......... ELG tournament was 1750pts, standard force org chart & mission where standard but a little change to them. Those that once knew peace now knew only war. With their homes destroyed by the foes of the Imperial, hope faded & the population were led into the shadow of despair. Asgard VII Prime was left defenceless. But there was salvation, a light in these darkest times. They arrived from the sky, those warriors of the mighty Space Wolves, warriors who can set fear into the very heart of evil. We fought, we fought for our dead, we fought for the very earth we stood upon, we spilt their blood, and we fought for the Imperial, for Russ & the All Father. We may be few & our enemies many, yet so long as there remains one of us still fighting, one who still rages in the name of justice & truth, then by the All Father, Asgard VII Prime shall yet know hope. Saga of Asgard VII Prime by Dreadnought, Rothgar the Wolf Guard & Skald of the 5th Great Company. The planet, Asgard VII Prime has held many secrets, even during the time of the Great Crusade when Leman Russ, Primarch of the Space Wolves first set foot on it, Nevertheless like so many things since those times, they have been forgotten, lost in the mist of history & legends over the millennium. However it is such legends that will keep people searching & hunting for the mysteries Asgard VII Prime holds, until out of nowhere the shadow of despair takes over these dark times. When Asgard VII Prime was attacked by all the foes of the Imperial it was the Space Wolves 5th Great Company that was sent in as the only hope the planet had to survive. Leonidas Buliwyf, Wolf Lord of the 5th Great Company, had sent a small strike force, the Gate of Morkai Strike Force led by Rune Priest Dilios Gunnar to investigate what threat the planet Asgard VII Prime was faced with. They started their campaign on Asgard VII Prime to bring the light of hope back to the darkened world. & to find out what mystery or relic was drawing all the enemies of mankind to the planet. The 5th Great Company was an incredibly mobile battle force, able to reach threatened zones swiftly. The array of purity seals, trophies & runes adorning the vehicles, Dreadnoughts & power armour of the Space Marines showed the experience & resolve of the 5th Great Company over many successful campaigns. Meanwhile the Long Fangs, wise in their years, acted as the eyes & ears for the Strike force, able to go off into their pack hunts ahead of the armour strike force. In honour of Morkai, the Wolf who guarded the gate of death, all of the Space Wolves in this strike force have painted their helmet black. For they would rather die to the last, than let this world fall & let whatever its mystery is, fall into the hands of the enemies of mankind. Since arriving upon the soil of Asgard VII Prime, Rune Priest Dilios had noticed that there was a strange energy drawing the foes of the Imperial to the planet. Many races were drawn toward this world all seeking to claim the relic of this planet; from the barbaric Orks who only lust for war, the twisted Dark Eldar always looking for slave & game, Eldar who are untrustworthy, Tyranids who only wanted to consume everything in front them to the corrupted servants of Chaos who sought revenge on those they once served. It seemed there was some form of secret hidden on the planet. There was so much more to the world than the average eye was allowed to see. Some say this secret had been there since the days of the Great Crusade when the mighty Emperor of Mankind walked the earth, a relic that cannot fall into the foe of the Imperial. While others say there is a nameless evil resting in the world of Asgard VII Prime, a terrible being, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. Nothing could stop it or hold it or reason with it. They said that Leman Russ himself had secret runes to bind this great evil being. One day it would just drop out of the sky & tear down your world as legend would say, among many other "legends". One thing is certain; the Space Wolves have allies in this darkest time. Rune Priest Dilios had sent Squad Hrolf to scout ahead of the main force. During their scout mission, squad Hrolf were ambushed, their Rhino transport destroyed & they were badly wounded. When the Space Wolves strike force arrived, Dilios saw that the unit of Grey Hunter were saved by fellow Space Marines. Their armour was as Black as the void; their armour was covered in the flames of Redemption & the bones of Vengeance. Bullets seemed to pass through these mysterious Space Marines. Once the enemies of mankind where slaughtered; the Black Space Marines vanished as though they had never been there in the first place. Rune Priest Dilios had heard many stories. He knew these Space Marines were to be called Legion of the Damned, rumoured to be from the Fire Hawks Chapter, who went missing in the Warp…. Usely when I go over to ELG for there tournaments I'd get a train in. But really greatful to Sholto (Dave) who give me a lift to Edinbrugh for the tournament, as he help me to take my Armies on Parade board that I just taken to Games Day last week which was for my Space Wolves. Also ment I could sleep in a bit, as I'd usely have to be up that 6.30am in the moring to get ready & then leave my house that 7am to get the train into Edinbrugh. So upon arrive to ELG & sign in, it was time to get ready for Round 1 Round 1 - "What is the riddle of steel?" Oppent Peter Army - Blood Angels (DIY chapter) Army list - Librarian, 2x Tactical squads with Launcher, Plasma (?) guns in Razorbacks, Librarian Dreadnought in Pod, Fury Dreadnought in Drop Pod, Stern Guards in Drop Pod, Two Speeder with Launcher. Three Predators, mix with Autocannons, Lascannons & Heavy Bolter. I think that it. Mission - Pitch Battle, one object each, we place our objects in the oppent deployment. Mission was good, set it up in the oppent zone good as it'll not lead to a draw with the one object each mission from the rule book. So your able to place them closer. So after getting into Edinbrugh, me & Dave went into ELG & sign up for the tournament. I would be on table 3 again Peter & his Blood Angels force. Was a really good game & very tigh in term there was not really a lot left alive. Few moment that stood out where things like both of my Long Fang units, being one model each where able to keep hold & make a fair few saves, I think they both made 25 armour saves until turn 7 when both finial made there peace & a end worthy of a saga. Also other part like my Heavy Bolter Razorback killing Peter Librarian. Or the Power Weapon Grey Hunter from the Rhino mounted unit make his "going to gound" armour saves & doing well. In the end Peter won hold my object with one Combat squad in Razorback, part of another Combat squad & a Fury Dreadnought near by. While I had a lone Grey Hunter, the Power Weapon arm one from my Rhino unit who would make the Blood Angels pay for the loss of his fellow squad memebers. Was pretty cool as his unit where able to hold off two saves from two combat squads. The two tactical squads had combat squad, where five w/specil weapon where in Razorback, while five w/Launcher give cover fire & where near to where I place my objects. Thanks again Peter & was a good game, very bloody game. ELG has some brillaint terrain http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03662.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03663.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03664.jpg Stern Guard deep strike from the sky's http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03666.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03667.jpg This was then follow by Librarian Dreadnought deep striken down http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03669.jpg Counter Attacking the Sternguards http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03670.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03671.jpg Fury Dreadnought deep strike down, but the Allfather & Leman Russ watch over Dreadnought Rothgar as he is only not able to fire the follow turn http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03674.jpg Which then resulted in Rothgar assault some near by Attack Bikes http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03675.jpg While a unit of Grey Hunter from my Lascannon Razorback are able to stop the fury Dreadnought, sadily not able to destroy him.... damn you Melta Guns, damn you B) When will GW release "how to roll dice" book they posted on what new today on the 1st April, been waiting agies for this be release.... :D http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03676.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03677.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03678.jpg I try once more to try take down the fury Dreadnought but Russ was not watching over & so op to assault in as it was ether assault or be assaulted http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03679.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03682.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03684.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03685.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03687.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03689.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03690.jpg Peter hold the object http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03695.jpg I have the other contested with one Grey Hunter arm with Power Weapon http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03696.jpg So after Round 1 of Counter Attack. It was time to set up our armies for people to vote for there favrout army for best army. Also allow us to get food as we are wargamer that the end of the day & no matter how stone cold food will be, we'll still be eating it. Iron-Daemon Forge
After getting some food & voted for the army we like for best army award. It was time to get ready for Round 2 Round 2 - The thieves of the ice mists Oppent Iain Army - Dark Eldar Army list - Urien Rakarth, Heamonculus, Incubi, Unit of Warriors, Unit of Warriors, Unit of Wracks, Unit of Wracks, 10 Wyches, 4 Reavers, 4 Reavers, Ravanger, Talos, Talos Mission - Kill points, Dawn of War. For round two, as well we Kill points, DoW set up. There was also five Object Marker. Each Object Marker counted as 2kpts for troops chose that held them. This has been the second time I fought Dark Eldar in a tournament, first time being the 40k doubles tournament back in Feb & there a few that my local GW so I knew what to exspect with the fire power & combat power as soon as the Dark Eldar got into you. Iain chose for me to go first & I chose to bring everthing on for turn 1/nothing set up until then. While Iain had a unit of Warriors set up on the board with a Hemonculus attach to the unit. Again this was a very bloody battle between my Space Wolves & the Xenos Dark Eldar. With tanks or Dark Eldar tank being destroyed. Or my Long Fang unit with heavy Bolter taken agies to get into a bit of terrain. I move my unit of Long Fangs onto the table & hope to roll that least a 3 on the dice so I could get a unit of Long Fangs in a bit of terrain, but it was not to be as I rolled a one..... please release the "how to roll dice" book GW :D I am not jokeing, really am not ;) In the end I was down to five units in my army out of the overall 14 Kill points that is in my army & I got 5 Kill points from Iain. Turn one, my Space Wolves move on waiting for the arrive of the Dark Eldar http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03743.jpg The Dark Eldar arrive http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03744.jpg The Dark Eldar first kill, my SW Rhino that carry unit of Grey Hunters with attach Wolf Guard, along with my Rune Priest http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03752.jpg Dark Eldar Jet bikes getting behind my battle lines & bomb my units of Long Fangs. http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03753.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03754.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03755.jpg My Rhino mounted unit of Grey Hunters with Rune Priest get ready to take on the charge of the Dark Eldar Wracks & Incubi http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03757.jpg I assault the Dark Eldar Jet bikes. The Jet bike has went flat out so was a little worry about the 3+ cover save, though I would charge in as my Long Fang unit leader has a nice amount of attacks (4) & also ment that they would not be able to target my Dreadnoughts or other tanks, as I wanted my Dreadnoughts to be ready to assault the incubi before they could slaughter all before them in my Grey Hunter units http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03758.jpg What was left of my Rhino unit before the Dark Eldar assaulted in, let this last stand be worth of a saga in the name of Leman Russ!!!! http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03759.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03761.jpg Rothgar slaughter the Incubi after a few rounds of close combat http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03762.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03763.jpg The never ending combat between my Long Fangs vs the Jet Bike. Belive this went on from turn 2 to 5?? http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03765.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03766.jpg My speeder flamer the unit of Dark Eldar Warriors, made them flee. But sadily the Speeder got blasted by a few Dark Lance & the Warriors regroup taken the object near by, top of the building http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03767.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03769.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03771.jpg In the end we called it after turn 6 as time was against both me & Iain & though was only fair. Was another great game & very bloody. Really like battle the Dark Eldar & hope I come across them in future tournaments. After round 2 it was once more time to take a small break before going onto round 3, the finial game of the day. Iron-Daemon Forge
Round 3 - Game 170 Oppent Jonathan Army - Space Wolves Army list - Rune Priest Terminators, Rune Priest, Wolf Guards in Terminator armour, Wolf Guards Pack Leader, Scouts, 4x units of Grey Hunters two in Razorbacks, two in Drop Pods, Long Fangs, Whirlwind Mission d3+2, Spearhead. For this mission it was four objects set up anywhere as per the rule book however for the 5th Object you had to kill more Elites, Fast Attack & Heavy Support than your oppent Also as seen there. This was my 170th game with my Space Wolves. For my Space Wolves & my Iron Warriors I like to keep a record of the games they fought, there my favrout armies I want to honour each game (unless a really really terrible make me wounder why people are in the hobby game of course). Much like a Warrior would mark each worthy kill of there or how some people keep score for what ever during a event for how many time in a row they done well. Exsample of my Space Wolves & event & honour won during the past year: Space Wolves The Gate of Morkai Strike Force, game's: W:64 L:58, D:48, total played 170 Conflict Scotland 10, ELG Counter 10 Attack/Best army, Rapid Fire 10/2nd Best army, ToS Nov-top 10 best armies, 40k doubles/top 10 best armies, ToS April-top 8 best armies, GW Falkirk Best Army award, Scottish Invasion 4th place & Best army, ToS July - Top 8 Best armies, Armies on Parade 2011, ELG Counter Attack 11 Player Chose award So after a quick break I found out I would be battle fellow Space Wolves. Was looking forward to this as if there one thing I can exspect from the Space Wolves, is that it will be another close fought battle & there will be no hold back or hidding, battle like real men, SW are well know for going all out & one of the reason I enjoy collecting & playing in the mind frame of a Space Wolf! I won roll off but let Johnathan go first, aim to try get object last turn ;) By the start it was all go. The Wolf Guard Terminators had deep strike down & lay a hail of Combi & Storm Bolter rounds into my Long Fangs with Heavy Bolter, taken a heavy toll...........I said it once & say it again, please GW release how to roll GW dice. I rolled around four 1's!!! for my Long Fangs armour saves, take the unit to three strong. I failed my Ld, but lucky no one was in 6 inch from the Long Fangs mean I could rally the following turn. Odin done well able to hold of the Wolf Scout shooting & then able to hold them in combat for a little bit, but was sadily taken down by a Scout with the Mark of Wulfen. Was a really hard fought game & lot of moment both me & Jonathen would take a few min to look that the table & think what to do in our next move. In the end we both had one object each & the game ended on turn 6. But Jonathen took out my two units of Long Fangs, Speeders & a Dreadnought. While his own Long Fangs where still one model strong & his Whirlwind was still about. Like wise the Terminators where getting close to my own battle lines. http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03772.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03773.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03774.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03775.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03777.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03778.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03779.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03780.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03781.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03782.jpg The might Odin is sadily taken down by a Wolf Scout who show sign of the Wulfen http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03783.jpg After taken down the Terminator Rune Priest, started getting the Grey Hunter space out with a few Plasma Cannons kicking about http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03784.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03785.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03787.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03788.jpg Protect my Heavy Bolter Razorback that all cost with the Wolf Scouts kicking about http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03789.jpg http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03790.jpg Unit of Grey Hunter hold one of the four Object Marker http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03791.jpg Try everthing to contest those object marker http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03792.jpg Use the destroyed Drop Pod as cover vs the Long Fangs http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ELG%20Count%202011/DSC03794.jpg After round 3 was done. It was time to hand over our score cards & pack up, find out where we rank & who won over all, came 2nd & other prize though out the day. Got to say I alway preffer the 3 round that 1500pts to 1750pts. Better day. Not a fan of small poins & more games as I would find that a lot & it dose not feel like a battle. I alway make a army to 1500pts when collecting, plan the conversion, also I also hate leave stuff out from the bulk of my army. But really enjoy ELG as the three mission where great, enjoy the 1750pts with Throne of Skulls going from 1500pts to 1750pts in two week time & then there my own Gaming club tournament in four week time. Always like these nice big point games & had three brillaint games. Thanks for all three oppents for games, can happily give future rematch. Iron-Daemon Forge
Though the games went against me ;) All of them where brillaint & had a good day. Each game was really hard fought & that what I like. I like 5th ed as it mean people are more going all out, a do or die way of gaming, not hidding all game. After we finish round 3 it was time for the awards & I won the player chose award for Best army for a third year running that ELG which happy with. Iron Warriors won in 2009, Space Wolves last year When I go to tournament, to be honsty my main aim has been the army side. I just like seen really cool armies that tournaments as it offer idea for future idea or idea to try out on current armies you may collect. Also I want to work for Games Workshop Hobby team, the guys who paint armies in weeks. Iron-Daemon Forge
Jamie what do the large oval base's count as? Destroyed tanks, same foot print as a Rhino base tank. Just end of the day when a tank destroyed on a 6, your ment to leave a marker & it also mean cover save if your inside as well which can really help from shooting or if someone is assaulting you. No one really has these, but where ment to. As said the oval once rep the Rhinos base models in my army, 60mm once for my Land Speeder & Dreadnoughts. Iron-Daemon Forge
Forgotten to add a link to the photos of the day http://s626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/I...2011/?start=all Dave should be getting his own report up later today along with the videos he took of people armies?? Also I said I'd add a bit about why I took the unit in the list. The Gate of Morkai Strike Force HQ Rune Priest Dilios Gunnar Rune Priest, Runic Weapon, Bolt Pistol, Frag & Krak Grenades, Chooser of Slain, Wolf-tooth necklace – 120 Psychic power: Living Lighting, Jaws of the World Wolf + Be honsty I never really took a psychier before in my armies over the years. So this is really the first. I went for the Rune Priest due to 1: conversion I done which is base on the 2nd Ed Stormcalled in Power Armour art work & 2: As said rarely useing Psychier & for tournament play in the event I come across a army say Eldar with the Farseer or Chaos Marines with Lash. So give me a fourm of defence. Also as recent tournament shown I been face a fair few Daemons, so the 2+ to wound alway handy. Wolf Tooth, I spent pts on this because well I can't really roll dice (please GW release the how to roll GW dice book, may have been April 1st Joke, but I am not joke I'd happily pay for it) & also I like being stick in close combat. You will tend to see my Rune Priest in the combat with his fellow Battle brother if I think he is able to take on the unit or his help needed or if he going of solo to take on smaller units. Also there are things out there that effected WS or make you hit low, belive Grey Knights have somthing like this?? Power, standard set up really. Living Lighting which I use pretty much all the time, d6 maybe random but one to six shot it still great & Unlimited range. With the release of the Dark Eldar Nov last year & there -6 Inch range toward there Raider, we laught that this Also for deal with units who hold or contest object who are to far out to deal with for combat or Bolter fire. Jaws of the Wolf more incase I come against Nids or Necrons, general take out thing like Orks with Power Claws or Nurgle Marine champion!! Other than that I don't tend to use it as much other than for a laught now & then. But it there just incase it is needed as we do see Chaos Marines with Nurgle units as object holding units for exsample. Chooser of the Slain really dose not need to be exsplain, +1Bs, 2's to hit & 2 to wound with Living Lighting, never leave home with out it. Also allow model/conversion, as seen I went for Servo skull. Just there not been aby detail raven models in any plastic kits & I like to convert up servo skulls to be honsty. Game play he'll alway be useing the Rhino hatch to fire out Living Lignting & as said will join my Grey Hunter in combat if he feel he can take on the squad/his help can turn tide of combat. Elites Dreadnought Rothgar the Skald Dreadnought, Dreadnought close combat weapon w/Storm Bolter, Smoke Launcher, Searchlight, Twin Linked Lascannon, Extra Armour, Wolf-tooth necklace – 160 Dreadnought Odin Dreadnought, Dreadnought close combat weapon w/Storm Bolter, Smoke Launcher, Searchlight, Plasma Cannon, Extra Armour, Wolf-tooth necklace – 140 + Dreadnought are maybe one of the chose that get pick on from people on the fourms or a few friends. But those that battle me seen why I taken them. General I like to be on the move, be able to be mobile. Not just that but Dreadnought offer a great combat roll. As round 2 shown, my Dreadnoughts where able to attack two units of the Dark Eldar, one of the main once being Incubi. They would have slaughter my Marine, as seen with my Rhino mounted unit. But against a Dreadnought there not much they could do vs Armour 12. This apply to units like Bloodcrusher, Bloodletter & Banshies as another two exsample, thing is no matter how many bolter round you put into them, no dout as soon as they hit your lines, they will slaughter unit after units. But have the Dreadnoughts allow me to assault them & hold up those units from hitting my line, save those unit of Grey Hunter from all those power weapon attack that hit before me in combat. Wolf Tooth same as my Rune priest, help me roll better. Also again against units or item wargear that effect WS. Also follow by S10 attack. Lascannon - I taken this for the range, while mobile Dreadnought only move 6 inch per turn. So just incase immobile turn 1, but also for range & because I find Assault Cannon for exsample over rated in regard to rending, should never rely heavy on rending. Plasma Cannon - I use to have Bjorn in the army list, but as much as he was good, he was to much points. So when re-doing the army list, I felt one of the two standard Dreadnoughts needed a Plasma Cannon, to help deal with Deep Striken units, tanks & any units that are holding object. Extra Armour - I alway want to be on the move. I don't care about the pts cost, end of the day last turn, that can't move or shot result can change game from my Dreadnought ether contesting a object or assault a unit & getting me that extra kill point. Not just that but grenades vs walker hit on a 6 unless immobile or can't move/shot, I'd rather not have them hitting my WS if I can help it. Be honsty in games I never regreated take Dreadnought & same time they have never let me down. They alway done well in games for me. Wolf Guards: Sevn, Frag & Krak Grenades, Power Fist, Combi Melta – 43 Edgtho, Frag & Krak Grenades, Power Fist, Combi Melta – 43 Rethel, Frag & Krak Grenades, Power Fist, Combi Melta – 43 Haltaf, Frag & Krak Grenades, Combi Melta – 23 + I will alway take a Wolf Guard over the 10th Grey Hunter. End of the day I rather have that combi weapon, the specil close combat weapon & also Ld9 help out a lot, as said I like getting into combat. As said combat weapon, Power Fist best suited for the Wolf Guards since they get two attack standard, just with the change in 5th ed & attack. Model wise, there ment to be mini hero in there own right so it great to make them stand out a little bit more than your standard Blood Claw or Grey Hunter. Also thanks to my games, each one has there own saga worth of Leman Russ & the Allfather. Troops Grey Hunter Unit Trovald 5 Grey Hunter, Bolter, Bolt Pistol, close combat weapon, Frag & Krak Grenades, Power Weapon, Melta Gun, Mark of the Wulfen, Wolf Standard – 120 Razorback, Searchlight, Smoke Launcher, Extra armour, Twin Linked Lascannon, Dozer Blade 5 – 95 Grey Hunter Unit Gnyrll 5 Grey Hunter, Bolter, Bolt Pistol, close combat weapon, Frag & Krak Grenades, Power Weapon, Melta Gun, Mark of the Wulfen, Wolf Standard – 120 Razorback, Searchlight, Smoke Launcher, Extra armour, Twin Linked Lascannon, Dozer Blade – 95 + I went for rezorback due to, well mainly 1500pts my army lack that fire support. Just incase I battle a army say like Tau. Just give me that chose to sit back & shot if I am battle Grey Knights as another exsample. Went for the Twin Linked Lascannon again due to dice roll abilty & for the range to take out tanks from contest my objects. Extra Armour so I am alway on the move, as said last turn I don't want to be stop. The unit might have to stay inside due to a unit near by that could blast them with easy but not my tanks or assault my Grey Hunter & slaughter them, but again not able to deal with tanks in combat. Also I do commission, I made the Extra Armour out of Plasticard, I want to use the skills I learnt from my NQ to HND model making course, it great if I can show people the work I can do as talk about it one thing but to show them your work a complete diffrent thing all together. Dozer Blade so I have no last turn mess up & as said my abilty to roll dice, you will notice a lot of re-rolls or improve like Chooser of the Slain make me hit 2+ instead of 3+. I'll go on about the Grey Hunter with my Rhino unit. Grey Hunter Unit Ranek 8 Grey Hunter, Bolter, Bolt Pistol, close combat weapon, Frag & krak Grenades, Power Weapon, Melta Gun, Mark of the Wulfen, Wolf Standard – 165 Rhino, Smoke Launcher, Searchlight, Storm Bolter, Extra Armour, Dozer Blade – 55 + Rhino allow my Rune Priest to cast his power out of the hatch. Other than that same as the Razorbacks. Grey Hunter. I went for Mark of the Wulfen, again not rely to heavy on the rending as said I find this over rated & saw no reason for people moan, I mean how many 6's will you get per game?? But I taken Wulfen, one for the conversion but also just for those extra attacks, more attack mean more saves. Year ago my friends had a saying "fire that me with a Lascannon I will make my cover/Inv save, however rapid fire me with 20 Lasguns & I will loss a unit in one go". So pretty much more dice, more saves. Power Weapon just so I can kill & rely on it (dice premitting) kill models or that least cause wounds on commanders. Melta for deal with tanks as I found with my IW I need to swap the Plasma to Melta to help deal with tanks as we are seeing a fair few Armour 14 tanks on the rise like Land Raider or Battle wagon (front armour). Also I like to assault, so dose not stop me. Wolf Standard, again dice roll abilty, as there will be that least one phase of combat for exsample that you really need to go your way to make or break the game for you. Like Farseer in Banshies unit with Fourtune & Doom. So can help the odds in your favour & also thankful save a few of your troopers with the armour save. Grey Hunter unit Freyr 5 Grey Hunter, Bolter, Bolt Pistol, close combat weapon, Frag & Krak Grenades, Melta Gun – 80 Razorback 40, Searchlight, Smoke Launcher, Extra Armour, Twin Linked Heavy Bolter – 55 + This is pretty much my unit that look after the object in the one object each. I did not tool them up as heavy as they are more of a supporting unit. But same time they have taken down Daemon Prince in combat or Helions with out being as tooled up as my other units just due to the amount of dice they are rolling for combat. Razorback keep them safe from fire power trying take them out from take a object or to use block units from trying contest mine. Heavy Bolter due to pts & just to take down thing like Land Speeder. I took this unit after I drop Bjorn. When I took Bjorn as much as he is great, he cost to much IMO. Also with the list I was running, I needed a unit to hold my own object & I needed a unit to try contest the oppents object. As Bjorn list it was take strength away from my assault to use one of the three Grey Hunter units to hold object & while trying get oppents it was like trying to hit through a brick wall. So drop him give me this nice unit, like Grots or what ever troop chose. In one object each from the rule book, both Dreadnought will give support thanks to there S10 no save attack can help deal with units or Land raider & deal with combat units that would other wise slaughter this lighty arm Grey Hunter pack. Fast Attack Land Speeder unit Storm Wolves 2 Land Speeder, 2 Multi Melta, 2 Heavy Flamer – 140 + Not really use Speeder since my Raven Wing days. Speeder are here as my contest the oppent object unit. Other wise they just give fire support where it needed. Multi Melta to deal with heavy armour tanks/tanks in general as said above with meltas. While Heavy Flamer to deal with Hoard like Nids or other unit that hold object say Scouts who have a 2+ cover save no matter how many Lascannon you fire it going be hard going. So heavy flamer take care of them. Also more wounds = more saves. Heavy Support: Long Fang unit Wulfric - 115 4 Long Fangs, Close Combat Weapon, Frag & Krak Grenades, 4 Missile Launcher Squad Leader Bronn 15, Bolt Pistol, Close Combat Weapon, Frag & Krak Grenades – 115 Long Fang unit Skarin – 135 5 Long Fangs, Close Combat Weapon, Frag & Krak Grenades, 4 Missile Launcher, Heavy Bolter Squad Leader Strak 15, Bolt Pistol, Close Combat Weapon, Frag & Krak Grenades - 135 + I took Long Fangs as there 250pts if add both unit or that least around there. As 1750pts tournament I tend to have my 1500pts with 250pts added on as I like play those two point leave. Hate small point leval games, 1500pts & 1750pts, some time 3000 is the way for me. I took Long Fangs due to 1: 11 models to carry, make my life easy when carry my army to tournaments, do not need more boxies to carry say another tank, I can fit Long Fangs in my case with the rest of the army & 2: They give further fire support which I feel the army needed when the points go up to 1750pts. Usely sit there with my "hold the object" unit of Grey Hunter with the Dread, again just make it into a strong fire base. Other wise I'll try make sure there cover both flanks able to have line of sight to all object & try not be out of range for those fire support. Went for Launcher due to the range, again thinking Dark Eldar here & due to model reason, mean people can see all the cool stuff I models onto the Long Fangs. Also abilty to take Krak or Frag, help deal with other Marines armies or vs Hoards as well. As for the token Heavy Bolter. Orignaly I had 20pts spare which would normal go onto Runic Armour on my Rune priest. But to be honsty Power Weapon/Fist will still go through this since Inv save is only vs Psychic powers, nothing more. So though I'd spend the 20pts on a token Heavy Bolter Long Fang. This was done due to allow me another long range weapon though S5, can still do a fair bit of damnge in games & thank to the Long Fangs split fire rule, if the Launcher fire that a Predators, the Heavy Bolter can fire that somthing else so he never weaste. Also help wound wise as well, but it wired, he been alive in that least 95% of the games he taken part in, alway make his save & has a saga worth of Fenris. Also model wise allow me to do some cool conversion. Total – 1747 points Usely my Space Wolves will alway be on the move. I hate being static, apart from the Long Fangs of course. So usely alway be on the move as I want to get into close combat & slaughter my oppent army face to face. Useing my Razorbacks & Rhinos from turn 2 onword to give fire support. Just tend to move 12 inch, fire smoke. Just Space Wolves can not be kept back if they can help it other wise it a long walk to the other side of the gaming table. SW Blog had a article about mid-field & this is key for the Space Wolves to get there as soon as possible & then spread out attack where the oppent is weak in there lines. Another key thing is alway try to support your units, don't spread out to much, only time you should split the force up is when you feel the units can deal with the oppent unit with easy & also for take objects. Alway bare in mind the mission as this can be down fall for a lot of people getting caught up in the moment. I loss count where game won due to one model claim object eather winning me or oppent won due to this. My army went though a lot of change until last year. Went from Drop Pods heavy but felt it lack range power & was easy for other mobile armies to deal with me with easy & my Wolves not being able to do much. Then I went for Mech list with Bjorn led, but he was a bit costly. I like mobilty warfare, being able to move around & general just having a lot of tanks. Also protect your Marines. Hate being a fully static army as I find that boring & easy to deal with. Hope this all make sence. Overall I enjoy useing my Space Wolf army, really enjoy the army list & happy with all the conversion & model side of the army. Like how my games have help give each model from the Rune Priest to the Grey Hunter there own saga's, I got trophies base on a few games that stood out which help theme the force a bit as well. So next tournament is Throne of Skulls October 15th & 16th, then Stirling Wargaming Rapid Fire 29th & 30th Oct both 1750pts, so the Long Fangs will be there & be first time in Nottingham for them as well in a tournament. Throne of Skulls is going from 1500pts to 1750pts. For me as said above as long as it 1500pts & above, I am happy. Hate small games, dose not feel like a battle to me & because of all the conversion & painting I done to the models, hate leaving units out of games that I put a lot of time into. When collecting a army, I tend to make up a 1500pts list, then plan out my conversion. So don't like leaving stuff out in games if they do well. Alway pick unit that I think can do well & work for my game play/how I want this or that force to battle & the main one being what can I do conversion & painting wise. Iron-Daemon Forge
You can now see a Video take by Sholto (Dave) from the ELG tournament by here Just heard the joke some people made during the tournament about me painting my board & Space Wolf army the night before the tournament, a rep that follow me for years B) Basicly to put this on record. I am know to paint though armies in a short amount of time, to record. I would like to list them, but there way to many. Here one exsample from Sholto blog from a year ago when we had a practise game for a tournament. It was the day after I painted a Blood Angel army for my friend who was going to Throne of Skulls with me in Nov last year QUOTE The man who can paint an entire Blood Angels army in the time it takes me to wash my brushes (approx a week, if you’re wondering – I like clean brushes). Or from Ross who attend ELG last year Ross ELG Counter Attack 2010 battle reportQUOTE Best army went to Jamie Farquhar - his Space Wolves can be seen above. Jamie's work is prolific and of an extremely high standard. I faced his Iron Warriors at Rapid-Fire Stirling last year, which also saw him take home the Best Army award The person in charge of the tournament try joke with my oppent that some terrain was to rep marker when my tanks where destroyed. Only for me to bring out a bags with base to rep blast/when my tanks are destroyed as when a tank get a 6, your ment to leave a marker to rep where the tank destroyed & it act as a bit of cover. Also look cool model wise. Just it a bit like college teacher wind me up saying the burger van ran out of bacon, only for the staff to have my roll & square sasage (Scotland food, breakfast like a burger, but not a burger) with bacon ready for me as they know me to well down there, what time I'd be there & my order, left him speachless & was his story during the end of the year college show. So just though exsplain a bit on this & just because I find it funny my rep as a fast painter follow me where ever I go. It like how my friends from my local GW store alway laught that the amount of people who seem to know me from tournament, cover our local GW store (one man store) or going to Games Day walk about or when our store bus stop.
