VAGABOND
As some of you may have seen I posted up my Throne Of Skulls Deathwing army a few weeks ago and see what you guys thought of them. I recently decided to make some changes to my Command Squad because I wasn't happy with them at all. I've changed 4 members and made them stand out more by adding Dreadnought pads and making all of them individual. The Apothecary was the first to get a rework, I've changed his torso and legs to give him more height and a new paintjob. I'm very pleased with how he's turned out and different from the other conversions I've seen online. http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/2011-10-02185529.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/Apothecary.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/apocback.jpg The Command Standard Terminator was another to get a rework since he looked like the smallest of the group and having to make another new model for him but keeping his Standard near enough the same but changing the hammer that the angel was holding to a scythe that a friend gave me since hammers aren't very Dark Angel(ish). http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/bannernew.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/banner.jpg The other Thunder Hammer Terminator another conversion and something of an experiment, I had a spare Sergeant PW left arm and wanted to make a left handed Terminator holding a hammer with his shield out in front as if he's blocking an attack. The base shot was also an experiment since I don't tend to use lights but wanted it to look realistic. http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/hammerdude.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/lightdetail.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/group.jpg Hope you guys like them and if you have any questions then please don't hesitate to ask. egon1six
One day I will begin to paint... One day. I have collected 108 terminators, 3 venerables, and 3 landraiders. I have all of them all assembled with the exception of my command squad and two out of my three Belials. Everytime i come up with an idea on how I want them to look I see new and better ideas on here! That and I am in the process of bulding and Ares pattern LR. I will also eventually post pics one day... I absolutely love your bases by the way! Interrogator Stobz
They are cool V, it's just really hard to see them due to the glare in the pics :P Keep up the good work s Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/239669-deathwing-command-squad/#findComment-2893171 Share on other sites
VAGABOND
Thanks guys, and I know how you mean my camera doesn't have a flash so I can only take pictures during the day or with my painting lamp the damn thing is way too bright. I thought the pictures came out ok aswell, my bad. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/239669-deathwing-command-squad/#findComment-2893234 Share on other sites
Interrogator Stobz
To help with the pics, get an A4 photo frame, take out the photo, leave in the glass, put a piece of paper in the frame andset it up about 8-10 inches from your models, and put the light a similar distance behind the screen. Voila, no glare ;) That's all I do. No flash too. Don't worry about lack of comments, your thread has about one comment per 36 views, mine has one per 44. DA players are a skulking, secretive, lurking lot and are hard to please :P s Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/239669-deathwing-command-squad/#findComment-2893278 Share on other sites
VAGABOND
Yeah I know what you mean dude, my last topic went down a storm aswell and thank you for the photo trick aswell mate. I will certainly try that out once I've got some spare time as I'm bogged down with commission work at the moment. Sandalphon
From what i can make out they look really good, i like the contrast of the AoV on snow bases :( wouldnt mind a closer up pick of the Typhoon CML, i was thinking about doing the same thing with my next batch of DW.. theyve only been on my workbench for about 6 months >_< Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/239669-deathwing-command-squad/#findComment-2893747 Share on other sites
VAGABOND
Yeah that was the idea because they were done in black armour it was only reasonable to do them in snow bases considering all my armies have snow bases. I'm still thinking about tearing off the Typhoon Launchers and attach CML because of line of sight at the GT. I don't my opponents getting an advantage of seeing the model. Bryan Blaire
I think they are looking very nice, Vagabond! I like the work on the apothecary, did you use customized bits, or the GK apothecary sprue stuff? Reason I ask is I have the GK Termi box and have considered using the apothecary bits there for a DW command squad when I finally get done with my DW squad. I will say, I think that a single missile pod from the Typhoon would probably be just fine to represent the Cyclone launcher, if actual Termi launchers aren't available, and should still give you a smaller model height. I like the light on the base and the switch to a scythe for the banner, very cool and characterful! VAGABOND
Yeah mate I used the GK Terminator parts since my flatmate had some spare and they would work perfectly for the conversion and I've yet to see someone use them for him. I've scaled up the TML and CML and I prefer the look of the Typhoon so I'm sticking with that. I thought the hammer on the Angel didn't quite suit the Dark Angel but it looked more in theme of my army so changed it and the light was an idea it looks bad in the picture but looks great in person. Really looking forward to next week though, can't wait to stomp some heretics! Brother Kovash
Great work V. I was just wondering if you could do a quick write up of how you converted the terminator holding the shield in his right hand. I'd like to have an idea of what to do before I start cutting up my spare parts. VAGABOND
Thanks Kovash, I can't do a pic by pic tutorial but it was a really easy conversion. I started off with a spare Terminator Sergeant power sword arm and cut it at the sword hilt and were the blade meets the hand and pretty much just glued it in place. I really should have made a tutorial but it was a quick conversion and I was in a hurry for finishing the squad. Edit: Added pics for you matey :) http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/2011-10-09230222.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/2011-10-09230157.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/2011-10-09230147.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/239669-deathwing-command-squad/#findComment-2896194 Share on other sites
