Fenrisian Wolves

Haven't yet but I'm currently building an Iron priest on a thunderwolf, he's going to be accompanied by 4 cyberwolves for a nice little unit. I picked up a set of chaos hounds to make the cyber wolves, the rest of them will be converted into fenrisian wolves to go with any character I want to change around a bit. The trouble with wolves as wargear for ICs is the transport issue.

At the moment, I am using the goblin mount from the warhammer fantasy wolf-riders, but they don't look as fearsome as I would prefer. I'm thinking of browsing Reaper or other companies for a suitable alternative.

EDIT:

Check this out from Reaper Miniatures:

It's the warg. Not sure how big the scale is, has anyone seen this model in person before?

i use Fenrisian Wolves both ways i find them to be effective in a pack of 10 or so to be a fast moving initial assault unit well my hunters catch up or as a screen for my units behind them.

at the same time i find them to be effective when attached to my wolf lord or anyone who can have one if i have the points to do so and as there cheep and effective.

I'm the same as Schertenleib. I run 2 wolves with my Lone Wolf, and once my Ragnar conversion is finished, I'll likely run the two named wolves with him as well.

I prefer the chaos warhounds over the goblin wolfrider mounts... altered, atleast. I go with a conversion process that's quietly stalking the internets.

I use the warhounds.I painted four to make them look like cyberwolves.

I used a pack of 8 in a game not to long ago.I charged a Tactical squad of Ultras. The guy i was facing was suprised.I took out 3or 4 guys.

I think they're a pretty decent unit.but they do die fast because of their 6+ Sv.

Great Wolfs with Saga of the Warrior Born. Since they are wargear the count towards his kills. :)

Interesting, anyone contest that?

Umm, not sure what this is supposed to mean.

Well.. it's fairly evident when you pair it with the rules for Warrior Born....

You get a bonus number of attacks equal to the number of models killed during the previous Assault phase. If the wolves count toward that tally and manage to kill anything in the previous Assault phase, all of those killed get added to the Wolf Lord's attack bonus in addition to his own.

My understanding of IC and wargear wolves:

I believe in the FAQ it states that Wolves as wargear for an IC count as a seperate unit when assaulting. So an IC with wolves attached to a unit of Greyhunters would act as three units in close combat.

So the wolves kills are not counted as the IC's kills, just as the Greyhunters' would not be. The one Space Wolf unit that doesn't encounter this is the Lone Wolf as he is not an IC.

Correct. It wouldn't matter anyway as the kills of an ICs wargear, having their own stat-line, including their own attacks, are not his kills.

Valerian

in larger point games I use a lot of them. I use Chaos Warhounds as Fen Wolves, and Vampire Count Dire Wolves as Cyberwolves. if you have a char with the saga of the wolfkin, they're initiative 5, which is a great deal of fun. that, and they're good at facing horde armies.

Ah, gotcha. I get the reference now. ;)

^^^This^^^

Although, I'm not even sure a Lone Wolf's Fen.wolves should count towards "his" kills. His wargear still has it's own models, statline, and attack rolls.
