Sagas of Legend

As the title suggests I am trying to find out which of the sagas my fellow Wolf Lords are legend for......

obviously it comes down to wargear as a factor when choosing a Saga.....

I am currently Building my Wolf Lord (i've always fielded Ragnar as my lord!!!) amongst his wargear is a mighty Thunderhammer, now I cannot decide to use Saga of the Bear for some eternal warrior goodness or Saga of the Beastslayer to re-roll those hits against those tough opponents, Saga of the Beastslayer looks good as I tend to roll poorly so as my lord Will be hunting big nasties I figured i'd make every hit count, afterall 5 S8 attacks hitting on 3's re-rolling to hit rolls will easily put down a carnifex, Hive Tyrant or Daemon Prince, however I am worried about him diying in one hit from S8+ atacks, primarily powerfists/klaws and Big WARBOSSES......... So I began to consider Saga of the Bear to allow him to take those fists and still be alive at the end of the round..........

Stuck, I turn to my Wolf Brothers for advice.......

Advise me :)

My Lord rolls as follows.

If on his bike, he has thunderhammer, storm shield, runic armour, saga of bear

If on his Thunderwolf, he has wolfclaw, storm shield, runic armour and either no saga (if I cant afford it) - or Warrior Born.

Basically for me (which I why I dont use Ragnar) I can't accept the possibility that a grunt with a powerfist (or meltagun/krak grenade etc) can take my 200+point Lord down in 1 hit. Therefore my rule is - if he has Toughness 4 .... you've got to go for Saga of Bear.

I have 2 (every lord should have a guard that can best him in battle) the real lord is on a mount and has saga of the bear (shiled and frostblade)

The 2nd is on a mount with 2 wolf claws or 1 claw and a shield and he has warrior born.

Haven't used the last one, and the real lord i kept forgetting he had it so it was of no use and didn't mis it as he ate everything he faced in 2 turns (one game turn)

You can use a WP to gain similar benefits to Saga of the Beastslayer....if there are no big things then leave the WP with your GHs to help them fight infantry

That way you can choose Saga of the Bear, go hunting big game and have a witness to tell your tale!

I have two lords.

#1. Thunderwolf, Frostaxe, Stormshield, Runic Armour, Wolftooth Necklace, and Warrior Born.

#2 Terminator, Thunderhammer, Stormshield, Wolftooth Necklace, Wolftail Talisman, and Bear.

Neither of them has ever fallen in battle.

I have multiple incarnations of my lord, Argus ShadowWolf. In all of them Saga of the Bear is the way I go. More for Fluff and survivability then any other reason. I keep the load out the same as well. Storm Shield and Frost Blade. This is whether he is on his bike, T. Wolf, T.A., or standard power armor.
Saga of the Bear seems to be the way to go! not a single post pro-beastslayer!

Thunder Hammer and Bear it is! will post up WIP as i build my Lord :D

thanks again Brothers!

For Russ and the Allfather!

Just give him a WTN and he'll be hitting on a 3+ anyway's no real need for re-roles

as everyone else detailed their Lord's kit I should do the same:

Thunder Hammer, Runic Armour, Storm Shield (its a Mantle really so the lord can wield his hammer in both hands! :P ), Wolftooth Neckalce and as it now appears Saga of the BEAR!!!!! as a bonus i like the Oath of the Bear: hunt characters!

Agreed on saga of the bear for a lord, he really does need to survive to swing the hammer. I like to take beastslayer on a living lightning/jaws rune priest. Combined with a chooser (and the recent errata stating you need to roll to hit with psychic shooting), re-rolling jaws on a 2+ is a cheap way to bring down those big nasties.
My Wolf Lord, on the one occasion I've put him on the table, ran with the Saga of the Bear, two power fists and a jump pack (belt of Russ).

He killed things quite nicely, but I don't think he's a perfect unit.

Maybe not, but he's quite unique, nice to see so many variations away from the obvious TWM combo
