- Can an HQ with Saga of the Hunter outflank with a Wolf Scout unit and use Operate Behind Enemy Lines

* The character may join a scout squad which is outflanking however, as it only grants the character the ability to outflank they may not OBEL

I am assuming You remember that Saga of the Hunter is for Wolf Priests and WG Battle leaders only, so no Wolf Lords, including Erik.

Special homegrown rules, a-gogo!

I debated making a character for this earlier today. Can't decide which a prefer more... Oath of War for a pack of scouts, or the potential to have an outflanking model with a thunderhammer (or equivalent). IMO they both cost the same, because the WP comes base, including his Wolf Amulet invuln. save and I'd feel compelled to give my WGBL a SS for a similar invuln. since they don't have access to a Belt of Russ.

Umm, the "new FAQ" you're quoting is from 2009. GW has released several FAQs since that time, and the most current one I'm aware of (V1.1, dated Dec 2010) states this :

Q. Can an Independent Character that has joined a Wolf

Scouts pack outflank? (p27)

A. No, unless he has the Saga of the Hunter, or another

special rule, which allows him to outflank.

Which most people I know interpret to mean that an IC with SotH attached to an outflanking Wolf Scout pack can benefit from BEL.

The most recent B&CS +OR+ thread on this debate is : here

you can always switch out the wolf priest his crosius with a thunderhammer as you see fit ;)

Sadly, WPs can't equip any other form of CCW except the crozius, otherwise taking a WGBL wouldn't even be an option.

I attach a Wolf Priest for the very handy Oath of War and then add a Pack Leader with the Thunder Hammer that you're looking for. Some folks knock the durability of Wolf Scouts, but I haven't found that to be an issue in a unit with a Thunder Hammer, plus three Power Weapons, plus a Scout with the Mark of the Wulfen, plus a few regular Scouts, all rerolling to hit.
