DA the next SM Chapter dex release?

Hi guys,

I am on the downhill jog of having 4500+ points of Tyranids Painted and I have been really wanting to start an army with a totally different feel than my Tyranids. After looking at the options for an all Terminator army, I was hard swung towards Grey Knights but it seems that everyone and their brother was playing them. My Room mate plays SW so I don't want to copy him. Then a friend reminded me about DA. I immediately fell in love with the though of small mobs of TH/SS Terries marching through the field. Then to realize the codex is previous edition made me step back.

I was discussing this with another friend that plays and he mentioned that there was a recent leak about DA Codex and a small set of special edition units being released. Has anyone heard this as the January 2013 release stuff?

If so I may buy a few models, but I think I will hold off on anything else.

Paul

I can't see Dark Angels getting done until 2013 because we still have other codex's who need an update long before us, Black Templars, Tau, Chaos and Daemons.

Dark Angels have a long way to go before getting a new book and considering GW only just released an update for us back in January, your pissing against the wind if you think we're next.

Word on the street is that they are getting released along with chaos in sixth ed next summer

The word that I have heard is that the next "Black Reach" box will be Dark Angels vs CSM and that the codexes for both will be out at the same time. I cannot find any facts to support this but a lot of people are using the quote "After the Olympics" which are next summer.

Stop being a sissy and come over to the Dark (Angels) side regardless! Yeah we may be from a previous edition, but our termis are hard as nails with the faq.

My advice is to go deathwing, play with some termis and enjoy them until the next codex comes out and we get shafted again :HQ: Ok, we probably won't suffer another rought release but if the rumours about 6th ed are true and we become the poster boys it might be worth jumping on the band wagon now, before the world and his friend joins in.

Yeah that's what I'm hearing too. I'm thinking a new Cypher/Fallen rules :HQ: would be fun in that scenario.

Cheers

Fist I've heard of it, but if so it's very good news.

My bet is on the templars getting codex treatment post six first and then us.

I see it like thus in the future:

Necs(any moment now),Chaos legions or whatever,Sisters(5th ed with strong inclination to 6th ed rules),A white dwarf treatment of the current chaos dex to bring it into 5th,6th ed,tau(that might be before the sisters since the sisters got the WD treatment but who knows),BT,something else and us.

Also before you invite him to the rock quarantine him, call the apothecaries and asmodai to give him a 'physical'.He may be carrying something contagious or he might be controlled by geenestealers. Were the heck is my bug spray?

Get in on the fun now before you start seeing Deathwing armies everywhere!

In my opinion, Black Templars need an update more than we do. Of course, you could always begin with building a power armored DA army, and then start adding Black Templar iconography in case the BA codex is being released first, so you'll be covered either way.

Don't worry about the future, GW won't tell you now anyway  You seem like you have staying power in the game, 4500 nids is cool.

If you like DA then buy and paint DA until GW change everything, it will be good practice for you as DW are a hard beast to do well with.

If not try something else.......

Lol. Thanks for the input. At this point I was going to buy a model to represent Belial and enough terminators to play like 1k points. Start by painting them. I have this thing against BT, don't know what it is but I just don't like them.

I promise I didn't bring anything bad with me. Bugs are just misunderstood ;-). I also figure that ~35 models at 2500pts is better than the 100+ model count at the same points I have played with nids before. Lol.

Thanks for the info.

It may be different for you, but I find that it helps immensely if I like the background and colour scheme for my army - it keeps me interested. So although the rumours suggest DA in early 6th edition it won't stop me collecting them - nor should it stop you if you really like the look of them. :)

Plasma cannons are also misunderstood.Step here and wait a bit.If you hear a charging sound its nothing, just stay still. It will hurt,a lot!

Ok and now that we purged the geenestealer in you welcome abroad!

At 2500 points IMHO the deathwing will need support vehicles to function better such as preds to help with some anti horde/mech capability.

My 2500 is this:

Belial w/ TH and SS

Librarian with Terminator Armor

1 DW Terminator Squad with LC, Cyclone, Banner and Apothecary

5x DW Terminators with TH // SS and Cyclone. Chainfist on the Sergeant.

LR Crusader

LR Godhammer

Predator with Las Cannon.

Best,

Paul

If I was you I would get 3+ assault terminator sq boxes 1+ normal terminator boxes and a ravenwing battleforce or 2. Add a land raider (lascannon version and then get the crusader upgrade pack) or 2 and a whole lot of magnets for the tank(s) and the arms of the terminators and you can produce quite a versatile and customizable Deathwing army.

notes on building

The RW battleforce gives you bikes (got to love their inbuilt teleport homers) and a RW support squadron typhoon speeder (the best LS variant 3 st8 weapons [2missiles and multi-melta] with 6" movement at 75pts) it also gives you 4 missile pods after making the speeder to convert into cyclone missile launchers for the terminators, so you dont need to purchase a normal termi box for each of the 4-9 CML's that you will inevitably want as they rock.

The DA veterans box is also a good purchase as it gives you extra DW parts(assultcannon, stormbolter, powersword, stormshield w/o arm, a termi shoulder pad, and a terminator pair of legs all with great DA/DW customization) on top of the icons, sergeant banners and veterans themselves.

As each termi in the army can have 3 arm configurations without spending a point (LC, HT/SS, SB/PF[PW]) I use magnets in the torso and in the shoulders of each arm so I can change them depending on the list I make(not all are magnetized only 2-3 out of every 5 with the non magnetized being TH/SS mainly LC's and assault on black reach terminators rounding out the rest. Note I carve out a spot for a magnet in the body of the termi before I put the front section on so I can magnetize the CML's.

You might also want to get your hands on forge world DW shoulder pads as you might end up without enough pads for all the arms if magnetizing, that and they look great.

Personally i find 2-3 TH/SS 1LC guys in each sq works best the main thing is dont skimp on the TH/SS termis as they are the linchpin for this force and what makes our completely terminator force work in comparison to SW and GK

remember the FAQ changed how our Storm shields(3++ always), CML's(2shoots) and typhoon ML(2shoots not TL) work and made it quite a competitive force (my 2k comp list has 16ML shots and 4MM's)

edit: added FAQ line and rearranged some lines order.

I second the magnetising everything approach, particularly since we don't know what options our units will have in the next codex. For example, chances are pretty high that the option to have a Cyclone missile launcher and thunder hammer/storm shield on the same model, will be gone.

Since nobody has mentioned this before, I'll point it out that it may be sooner than we think that we're getting an update.

Specifically, the second part:

-Adam did go on to mention Necrons and Dark Angels as two in need of help, but it didn't sound particularly to indicate any info on forthcoming releases.

Combining this with the earlier rumor about us being the new "starter set" box, I'm inclined to believe Dark Angels might be the next Imperium codex. Yes, Tau, Eldar, Chaos, and Orks all need updates (Not Necrons because GW isn't fooling anyone into thinking they won't be out in a month). But either way, guaranteed there will be an Imperium codex next April-Mayish. Of them, it's only BT and DA. Black Templar, I dunno if any of y'all have seen a BT army playing these days, but they are scary. Surprisingly so.

Oh and I dunno where the heck everyone's getting 2013 for 6th Edition. Everything I have heard says summer 2012. June/Julyish.

Ive heard the word "Olympics" mentioned a lot.

A DA wave would suck a bit for me, as i just went through the SW release and the BA release and the resultant flood of new enthusiasts. At least i can buy cheap pre-loved minis from ebay lol.

ANyway, ive chosen DA for the fact they are less likely to attract power gaming due to there older Dex and the Vraaks campaign (one of the greatest game books ever!!!).

Chaos apparently is getting a huge re-vamp just after the newEd hits, ive heard its a Legions project folding daemons back into the Original Traitor Legions and modern chaos Astartes like the Red Corsairs or Iron Gods.

Interesting times.....
