xPeRt
Hey guys, first post/first thread. I have crawled around here for awhile reading all sort of stuff. I started building my SW army last year and I finally finished one model (had to have him for a Deathwatch game so I was forced by another) But anyways here is it. My question is does this look Space Wolf? http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p278/threedguru/23501569.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/240144-space-wolf-test-mini-qs/ Share on other sites
Aeddon
I think it looks just fine. Nice paint job too! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/240144-space-wolf-test-mini-qs/#findComment-2898066 Share on other sites
Wulfebane
Not a fan of the green runes, but to each their own.. otherwise I think it's impossible for a SW model to NOT look wolfish when using SW bits. I agree that for your first model, ya done good. However, I would maybe look up online (or find a painterly friend) to learn how to get a smoother/purer yellow. It looks like that was either undercoated black and yellow was thinly applied over it.. or you used a dirty brush/water cup. For light colors like yellow or white, I can't stress enough how important it is to have clean water and brushes. Otherwise, the leftover paint contaminates the vibrancy of the lighter hues. I'm sure other people will come in and praise/critique. I'd only suggest a more dynamic pose. Oh, and the backpack is missing. xPeRt
on topic of the yellow, I used some wash and went over it. Is that a general no-no? Wulfebane
on topic of the yellow, I used some wash and went over it. Is that a geberal no-no? Mm.. not necessarily, though I would've limited it to the curved rim of the shoulderpad and left the yellow more pure in color.. either that or used a wash other than (what I'm guessing is) badab black. Alternatively, some people like the dirty, war-torn, blasted and covered in soot look, though this looks more accidental than intentional. I could be wrong. Whatever I (or anyone) say, take it with a grain of salt. You can paint your army however you like. I'm just offering my honest opinion based on my painting background, so I hope you do not take offense. Beef
Yes he looks like a SW, no mistaking that. I agree about the yellow it looks to dirty but hell yellow is a really hard colour to paint. for Guidance look on the painting section or ask Imperial fist players for help. Also the green runes look like GS especially the one bit on his belt. Otherwise its a fine mini. hendrik
i actually like the dirty yellow! makes it look like he's actually there in a battle with dust, gravel and various metal scraps flying through the air because of the unending artillery barrage Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/240144-space-wolf-test-mini-qs/#findComment-2898228 Share on other sites
Max_Dammit
want pure bright yellow? 3 coats of bleach bone, than 3 coats of sunburst yellow, not a fast and easy way Isnt there a yellow foundation paint? CainTheHunter
For yellow over black basecoat - a couple layers of Foundation Lyanden Darksun, followed by either Desert Yellow (for darker) or Golden Yellow (brigther). Works like a charm and gets even better with a small wash of Ogryn Flesh around the inner edge. The chest part and runes on the belt would have benefited of small wash with Gryphone Sepia. I've found the best way for pure bright yellow is to not attach that shoulder pad to the miniature whilst you paint the rest of it. Then use a white spray paint to undercoat the separate shoulder pad (do them in batches) Then once that's dry, paint the grey/black whatever other colours leaving the bits that will be yellow tlll last. Once you've got the white undercoat on (and have painted over any slips on the rest of the shoulder pad), attach the shoulder pad and then use any typical yellow painting style to bring it up to the desired colour. If you're goin for a transfer, put this on before you shade and highlight.
