Chooser Suggestions

I love that Nurgle-raven, it looks real nice on a base of its own.. Hard to get it now though but you might get lucky if there´s a club around and some git plays Nurgle for WHFB?

But that owl somebody above had looks nice too..

Too bad GW don´t sell bitz anymore.. ;)

I agree with an Owl, they remind me more of the woods and wolves than a raven does

giant owl

The raven isn't meant to tie into wolves and woods.. atleast not in the literal sense. The raven, in regard to Space Wolves, is a hint at Norse mythology which GW base the lore, aesthetics, and structure around. That's why in the past, the Chooser had always been a psyber-raven and why Njal is represented with one.

he was looking for something else, so I said owl

theyhint at everything, so IMO an owl fits more with a wolf theme than a raven. its not my fault GW picked the wrong brid, IMO that is. ; )

Thanks for the input brothers. I will have to look more into the reaper mini ranges. The khador model might have some potential. Again I am looking for the warrior maiden / valkyre theme at the moment. The spirit wolves suggested sound and look like a bit of fun to work with as well. The problem being if I run Fen wolves later on with Lone wolves I might get a bit hung up or at least my opponent might. I have been looking in the stock GW fantasy line as well.

The search continues.

Thanks again.

I converted and used a Inquisitor Coteaz for my rune priest ... he has that really great looking fur mantle and i love his hammer. then i cut the awesome 2 headed eagle off his arm and magnetized it, so it can be on his arm and or on the magnetized 25mm base ( RB states chooser marker cant be bigger than the RP, base included) I don't have pics as I'm at work ATM but when i get a chance ill post pics. also it was fun and easy converting him... i added a "wolf head" helmeted head a wolf tail talisman hanging off the handle of his hammer and a few other bits to give him a Wolfy vibe. and i get compliments on him almost every time i put him on the table :) im using 3 different models for my 3 rune priests to give them the individualistic look that i so love about the space wolves when modeling them, each guy can have a cool stand alone looking model and fit in great with the army still.

This thread reminds me, I really, really, need to get off of my butt and build a real Chooser model, so I will no longer be using my "Gretchin of the Slain" (i.e. Gretchin spotter for Big Gunz with the telescope).

Sort of did the same thing.I cut off all the =I= on him and replaced the =I= amulet with a wolf skull. Then i put a Storm bolter on the side where the eagle goes.the eagle i put on a base and cut a couple sprues to make them look like boulders and painted the arm that has the eagle to look like a boulder.

@Valerian use could use that gretchin as servitor if you use Iron Priests at all

Well, the gretchin has a home in my rather large Ork army; I've just been using him as my Chooser since a) he is easily distinguished from any other models in my Space Wolves army, b) he has the telescope to denote his "spotting" for my Rune Priest, and c) I haven't bothered to make a real Chooser model yet.

I use my Iron Priest model as a counts-as Wolf Guard with Thunder Hammer who is a part of my retinue for Ragnar. I love the model, and he looks great, but after two decades of attempts, the designers still haven't figured out how to make good rules for Iron Priests and Techmarines.

@Val: damned near spit my drink out at the Grot sniper. That is a unique and amusing idea.

Making arrangements to raid my friend's bit box in trade. Maybe see what he has in his fantasy stuff. I will also be looking at getting some of the DE razorwings as well. I will let everyone know what I find / do. Keep the ideas coming.

Thanks.

I picked up a Reaper miniatures raven from their "animals" line. If I can find a pic and a link I'll be sure to post it.

It's small enough that you can put it on a shoulder, a tree, or on a base by itself....

Just a thought unless you're wanting/needing to go with a GW product....

Found it...It's part of a larger pack of animal "familiars"

Ebay posting link:

Hope it helps...

Not hung up on the GW products. Don't plan on playing the tourney circuit or anywhere else that would have issue with non GW models. Mostly friendly stuff. I have been looking at Reaper and the like, but have no flaming clue as to where to start looking. Thanks for the direction.

Here's a great idea for Chooser of the Slain.

I am currently using one of the Dark Eldar Slaves as my chooser

But, I am thinking of converting it. I'm thinking of taking the wings from the Razorwings and mounting them on to the back turning it into a Valkyrie, the true chooser of the slain in Norse Mythology.

I use these guys from the Dark Eldar range:

I basically get three models placed on three 30mm bases for Chooser of the Slain. If ya don't like these guys, try...

If you look at the top of the warjack, you'll see two crows. Those are separate bits, and they are available at the Privateer Press bits store for $0.50/each. Here is the link: PP Crows. If that violates board policy, then please edit it.

You'll find them at the PP homepage-->Store-->Parts-->Warmachine-->Khador-->Warcasters-->page 4.

Crows/ravens are a little more fluffy then an owl, as the Space Wolves take a lot of stuff from Scandinavian Norse myths, and ravens figure very prominently in that mythos.
