Golden Lion Chapter WIP

Hidy All!

This is my first post so it may take a while to get the hang of it all.

The Golden Lions are my SM chapter; made back in 3rd edition when I started 40K with my boys. This forum has been a wonderful resource to improve our modeling and painting and I thought I might as well share our small efforts at learning some of the techniques shown here.

This is Lenny the Land Raider. He is about 90% complete. The side LC sponsons are magnetized, and the storm bolter and MM are removable. The lion symbols are home made decals.

If you've read the "Bolo" stories you'll get the joke with the name and serial number.

And here is Lenny in Crusader configuration

Oh, wow. Very nice. That's looking sharp as hell mate. Beautiful shading on the tank, really gorgeous colours. Love the home made decals!

I hesitate to ask since you clearly know what you're doing, but will you be applying some microsol/microset onto those decal numbers along the top there? I can't help thinking you'd get a better finish on them. It was the only thing that stood out to me as needing a bit more work really.

exactly right. The serial # decal especially needs more work and I hope I can get the clear film to be invisible with a little work

Really nice gold colour, how do you do it please? And one more question, how come the multi-melta is facing backwards?

Looking forward to seeing some more of your stuff.

Vulkan

The gold I use for vehicles is different from the one I use for troops. Essentially, its 4 parts Iyanden, 1 part Gryphonne Sepia, 1 part Vallejo Air Gold, well thinned. This is airbrushed over a red primer, then Gryphonne is airbrushed (very lightly) for initial shading. Once dry, very light airbrush dust with a 50/50 bestial brown, chaos black wherever smoke, stains and dust would collect. Final shading, weathering and paint chipping is done by hand.

And the MM is facing backwards just for the photo  Once final weathering and details are done (such as the stupid Storm Bolter barrels - Doh!) i plan to give it a more natural position

The only things really left to do on these guys is writing on the purity seals and name banners.

There are quite a few Space Wolf parts used in the models, since the fluff I made up 15 years ago had their gene - seed as being from both the Imperial Fists and the Space Wolves. Which cleverly allowed me to play them as either a codex chapter or as Space Wolves :P ( I know, prolly not too fluffy, but we have fun )

Next is my company captain who rides along with the assault terminators, Alaric D Arvain, based off the forgeworld Huron model. I'll try to get pictures uploaded soon

My only critique is the second light in this picture. Is it off? If so, why does it look brown?

Other than that the model looks amazing. Really love the custom chapter symbol too.

quite right. the second light will eventually be yellow-green - I don't have enough control with the airbrush for OSL lighting tho, so it will be off also :P

Captain Alaric. My oldest son pointed out the Huron model when he was surfing the Forgeworld site. It doesn't easily fit his Blood Angels, but he thought it would be perfect for my Golden Lions. I agreed ;)

Minor conversion of Huron model. When I play him I call the heavy flamer a combi-flamer.

The lava pattern was done with P3 yellow, red, and a mixed dark brown ink over white.

I love the lion-claw lightning claws. Wish I could modify regular powerfists or LC to match.

The head is so well modeled its easy to paint.

Just got some Razorback/Rhinos close to complete. Pullo, Vorenus, and Markus will normally be used as various razorbacks. These are mostly done; still need last minute detailing and weathering.

Thanks for looking. Comments and criticisms welcome

First, the Vindi - just the basic weathering done, no name yet

Two predators recently added to the company:

First is the latest addition, Predator "Ogre". Its straight from the kit -- side sponson magnetized for flexibility

About 12 years ago, Predator "Griffon" was scratch built from cardboard, plastic card & tubing, with some extra bits to represent an earlier sub - type.

I'll try to get some photos of the entire army sometime this weekend. Next thing to be worked on is Sternguard

Tried to get some pics of the full army so far, mixed results due to poor photo quality ;)

Hopefully this will do till we get a better camera. Still on the "to do" list are Sternquard, Assault Squad(s), and Vanguard.

We had a rough time getting everything in the frame and in focus.

I added some finecast Sternguard to my first metal ones (five sternguard plus 2 metal vets). The original package had some problems, and GW nicely sent me a whole new box. So, after much gnashing of teeth and greenstuff modeling, I had 9 new finecast Sternguard to add to my originals. I'll use the extras as sergeants in various army lists

First, the original 5 metal boys - done in an older, more brassy paintscheme

gallery_61766_6698_26074.jpg

The newer troops, along with the metal vet sergeant ( the original plasma pistol was modified to be a combi-plasma)

gallery_61766_6698_23390.jpg

Same squad from the back with bolter/chainsword vet added to squad

gallery_61766_6698_211247.jpg

Two views of the modified metal vet sergeant - the back banner was reversed as an experiment - I'm not sure it succeded. What do you guys think?

The older boys tend to be a bit too shiny - the glaze was a problem. I've since changed to Testor's dullcote for the final spray.

comments and criticism welcome
