Tellos05
So a friend of mine challenged me to a game of 40k and I havent played since i was 12ish, so Ive settled for Blood Angels particulary Death company. I wana play a Death company army. So far Ive got one squad just armed with bolters and a contemptor dread im dying to paint/convert. Is there anything particular I should include? Im not lookin for a mechanised army just troops and bout 1000 points. So please brothers help a fellow son!
vharing
All DC is great so long as you dont have to take objectives. Though wiping your opponent counts as a victory of sorts. For only 1000 points there wont be much to it though, as DC are quite expensive.
sp4rky
Well, for a full Death Company army you'll need Astorath as he unlocks the 0-1 limit on the DC. I run the following 1k list which does very well in my area: Reclusiarch 5 Death Company (2 with power weapons) in Rhino 10 Assault Marines (2 with meltaguns, sarge with power fist) in Rhino 2 Baal Predators Librarian Furioso in Drop Pod I see that you're not looking to go mechanised though. There is one big issue with having a non-mechanised Death Company... The Rage rule. As they have to move towards the closest visible enemy unit they are susceptible to being led around the board by a single fast unit while the rest of the army shoots them up (I have done this to a fellow BA player using 1 Land Speeder to pull him all over the place). Jump packs negate some of this (obviously doubling their movement speed) but they are very expensive and will take away from other things you can have in your list (a single jump pack costs nearly the same as a basic assault marine!). At 1000 points it is hard to justify the named characters (i.e. Astorath costs nearly the same as a fully kitted-out assault marine squad) as this severely limits your models on the table. It is all too easy to get an expensive unit taken out of action (either getting stuck in combat with something you can't kill, or by being too far away to be effective). Compare the following 2 setups: Astorath, 5 DC with Jump Packs, 5 DC with Jump Packs... 570 points. Librarian, 10 Assault Marines (2 meltas, fist on sarge), 10 Assault Marines (2 meltas, fist on sarge)... 570 points. This is only a silly little example, but you can see how expensive the DC are compared with standard marines. Also, don't forget that DC can't score so you'll have to kill all the other guy's troop choices to force a draw in 2/3 games. P.S. I love the Contemptor model and they would make very cool Furiosos. (I hope this babble made at least a bit of sense)
Tellos05
Yea the reason i said 1000 pionts was coz of funds or rather lack of them. Im sure i could stretch to 1500 and maybe a couple of rhinos. I have a stormraven if this helps in any way. Sorry bout the lack of knowlage on amry list i only really do this for a hobby i dont usually play. I know im going to facing eldar and death guard but not the units if this helps out. Cheers
JamesI
Storm ravens are pretty good for DC lists. Put a DC dread in it and a squad and its scary. Though its pretty much all your points at only 1000.
