koran Posted October 16, 2011 Share Posted October 16, 2011 I had the chance to buy a blood slaughterer a while back for a bit of a bargain so couldn't really turn that down just as a chance to try some things out (even though it had an impaler and not the two CC weapons I would have preferred, but what are you going to do ;)). First I thought it needed to have a base to show it stalking through a ruined city... So a bit of foam core and some photos of war-torn cities later that was done. The main things I wanted to try out were some crackle medium, a new way of painting bronze and a different way of doing blood. Firstly it should be said that the crackle medium worked brilliantly.... Until I tried to mask over the areas that had been "crackled" to spray another area and then masking fluid pulled everything away with it. Needless to say I wont be using that again! Anyway, second time around the crackle medium didnt work very well but then it was doing over a quite rough surface (also explaining the roughness on some of the panels). The only bit that this didnt really happen to was the impaler so Ive done a photo of that so you can see what that ended up like. Oh, should probably mention that this is a possible beginning to a dark mechanicus army (hopefully this followed the B&C rules for posting as mechanicus are allowed...). The symbol Im thinking of using (as there isnt very much on dark mechanicus) is the one on the shoulder of the blood slaughterer. Its a cross between the standard mechanicus symbol and the 8 pointed star of chaos. Its a pretty simple combination of the mechanicus and the chaos star. I was thinking about adding something to the scull like horns or something chaosy but I think this is simple but effective.
