Shadow Grey or SW Grey?

I'm not too sure where to put this, so here it goes. After painting one model, I noticed that shadow grey is only slightly lighter than fenris grey. I picked up SW grey to try out, and wondered how many people use it over the shadow grey that GW paints all their models? I like the color of it, so I'll more than likely do my entire army like that, just looking for a general consensus.

Space wolves grey by itself is far too bright. A lot of people i've known mixed shadow grey/sw grey for their top coat, but i still felt this was too bright and hard to keep consistant over a large army. I've personally switched to (in order)

Black primer

Fenris grey

Wash with badab black

Shadow grey (avoiding details)

Highlight with sw grey

We have a thread running with everyones colors. A lot of people have switched to a more pure grey which still comes out slightly blue.

I am using the Space Wolves Grey. I like the color, but as I have learned, if I used a black base coat, I had to do 3 coats of SW grey (2 two main coats and 1 touch up), but the color came out nice. if I used a white base coat, I only needed 2 coats total, but the SW Grey came out very very like and I really had a time trying to see the differnce between the white and the SW Grey. I friend of mine who has been a SW player since they started, begain with SW Grey, but eventually went to a 50/50 of feris grey and SW Grey. hope this helps.

The old grey question....

Just to throw it off completely. There's also Codex and Fortress grey getting used.

I'm using (very slowly at the moment though)

Grey primer

Charandon Granite line shadows

Thinned Badab Black wash

Medium sea grey

Fortress grey

Ghostly grey

Lots of coffee

I tend to go with

Chaos Black undercoat

Fenris Grey base

Devlan Mud wash

Shadow Grey

50:50 Shadow/Space Wolves Grey

Space Wolves Grey fine edge highlight

It doesn't come out too bright, but contrasts well with darker colours. Hope thats of some help to you!

The GW Eavy Metal folks mix 50/50 Shadow and Space Wolves Grey to make "Special Grey" they then highlight up to Space Wolves grey from there.

I use a black spray undercoat (as the spray helps the colours stick better)

Fenris Grey base coat.

Special Grey main colour

Highlight up to Space Wolves Grey

Shade with shadow Grey

Chaos Black Primer

Fenris grey Base coat

3 parts Space Wolves grey to 1 part Fenris grey as a main coat leaving the shadow areas Fenris grey

Leviathan Purple wash then go back over the mini w/ the Space Wolves/Fenris grey mix.

highlight w/ Space Wolves grey
