killersquid
I was at games day yesterday and there was four opening gaming tables. They were each themed on on of the four different chaos gods and I ended up getting a game with a space wolf player on the nurgle table. His list, from memory, was: Wolf lord with Thunderwolf, storm shield, frost blade, saga of the bear. Rune priest with living lightning and wolf of the wolf wolf. Two ten man grey hunter squads with melta/flamer and terminator champion with thunderhammer and sheild. (banners and wolfen too!) One not-ten man squad with only flamer. Long fang squad with champion, lascannon, missile, plasmacannon and two heavy bolters and las/plas razorback. Lone wolf with terminator armour and thunder/shield and two wolves Dreadnought with assault cannon. Wolf pack of somewhere between 8-10 wolves (something like that). I was running the legion of the Fleshy Curse. Lord Theon (Mark of Slaanesh, meltabombs, blissgiver) Dreadnought (Warpblind Deathvomit) with twin-lascannon and xtra armour Garolds Brotherhood (ten chaos space marines with two meltaguns, powerfist champion, icon of slaanesh, rhino) Hotho's Reavers (ten chaos space marines with two meltaguns, Powersword champion, icon of slaanesh, rhino) The Ironborn (nine chaos space marines with one meltaguns, powerfist champion, icon of slaanesh, rhino) Eight lesser Daemons Two autocannon/heavy bolter predators two obliterators We played the auto-tie mission with Dawn of War deployment. I set up my objective at the center point of the table, while he set his up further back (but I set up mine as close to his as I could) He started with his two ten man grey hunter squads on the table, with the rune priest tucked around his objective. I deployed nothing. I opted to deepstrike the Obliterators however (why not in dawn of war?) Turn 1. His army trudges on. Wolf lord and wolves on my left, long fangs on the far right, rest of his force in the middle. His infantry slogs up the middle. I bring on my three rhinos (lord tucked into the Ironborns rhino) near the middle/left of my deployment (giant baby head in the middle of my table edge) and the predators come in on the right side of the baby head. All boost up 12" and pop smoke. Dreadnought follows the rhinos, slowly. Turn 2. His infantry and pals all advance a bit. Longfangs mysteriously don't get out of their razorback yet. Rune Priest fires living lighting at Garold's squads rhino and stun's it, while the razor back misses my dread with it's lascannon. My dread stays sane and my reserves all come in (great for my obliterators, not so great for my daemons). Obliterators drop on my right flank, while deamons pop behind my rhino wall (I was thinking I could use them to claim my objective. Rhinos all drive forward (except for Garold's) and form a wall with their side armour facing my opponents infantry for charges next turn. Obliterators train their plasmacannons on the rune priests squad and kill off everyone but the rune priest, terminator and two infantry (banner and wolfin), predators fire upon the other ten man squad and kill only a couple of marines. Warpblind Deathvomit fires his lascannon at the distant razorback and wrecks it easily. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v472/killersquid/warhammer/games%20day%20italy%202011/IMG_0055.jpg Turn 3. At this point, I think he is worried about my predator tanks (?) as h moves the wolf priests damaged squad towards them. All the other infantry also advance (a bit). The longfangs fire at one of my predators, but fail to do anything. Rune priest fires his living lighting into one of my rhinos (Hotho's) but fails to glance with his two shots.Wolf lord and wolves make a massive 12" charge into my lesser Deamons (who are snuggled next to my dreadnought and rhinos) and predictably I loose the combat, but I keep a handful of daemons alive. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v472/killersquid/warhammer/games%20day%20italy%202011/IMG_0067.jpg Garold's rhino scoots to my objective, while the Ironborn and Hotho's squads disembark. Hotho and pals head towards the lone wolf, while the Ironborn and my lord aim towards the last 'big' squad. I fire my infantry at their potential targets. Lone wolf's wolves die, but the (now eight man) grey hunter squad is immune to my small arms fire. Worried I might have trouble as he still has a terminator in that squad, I fire my obliterators plasma cannons at them, causing enough wounds to kill the whole squad...Opps I guess. Warpblind Deathvomit turns into a tar-pit as he charges the wolf lord and wolf friends attacking my Daemons, he even puts two wounds on the wolf lord through the storm shield. Not bad, not bad. Oh, Hotho and pals cause one wound to the lone wolf, who also kills one of mine Turn 4. Rune priest and pals realize that the predators are not a threat and aim towards my lord and the Ironborn, while the longfangs start shooting at something important (IE my obliterators), however, the long fangs miss with their lascannon and plasmacannon against my obliterators, while their heavy bolter shots are inefficient at hurting the Ironborn. Rune priest spits Jaws of the World Wolf into the Ironborn, hitting four and two of his own wolfs. Due to my Icon of Slaanesh, I only fail on a six, which the Iron bearer rolled hilariously enough. My opponent rolls well for his wolves and I suffer no additional damage. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v472/killersquid/warhammer/games%20day%20italy%202011/IMG_0059.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v472/killersquid/warhammer/games%20day%20italy%202011/IMG_0065.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v472/killersquid/warhammer/games%20day%20italy%202011/IMG_0066.jpg In combat, rune priest and pals charge the Ironborn, my lord hits himself in the face with his daemon sword, while the Ironborn end up doing not a whole lot. However, his rolls are as :cussty as mine and I loose only one marine and stay in combat. The other combats continue, but nothing exciting happens. I don't move a lot. Garold's squad pops out of their Rhino to join the lord's feeble combat, while the obliterators fire at the last grey hunter squad and kill all but two of them. Dreadnought kills the wolf lord in combat, which is awesome and sees the wolf pack run away. Lone wolf also dies. Garolds squad joins the combat with the run priest. Lord punches himself in the face again, dodges a force weapon and then gets clobbered by a powerfist. However, I witness the grey hunter squad killed off. Finally. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v472/killersquid/warhammer/games%20day%20italy%202011/IMG_0062.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v472/killersquid/warhammer/games%20day%20italy%202011/IMG_0067.jpg Turn 5. As I forgot to spin the dread around after combat, his longfangs missile in the back to kill it. While he tries to plasmacannon my obliterators, who take two wounds and pass both of their 5++ saves. Amazing. His last grey hunter squad charges Hotho's squad and due to my higher initiative see them both cut down by Hotho's power sword before they can strike. At this point, games day was starting to close so we called the game. I owned both objectives, while he had none (and no scoring units). http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v472/killersquid/warhammer/games%20day%20italy%202011/IMG_0068.jpg It was fun to get a game in on such an amazing table, but my opponents army was played poorly and he had poor die rolls. He spread out his force too much allowing me to attack it peice-meal and he was too eager to engage his troops early with no reward. His lord should not have charged my daemons and should have waited for my infantry to start mucking about. If he was to charge the daemons, he should not have done so in a place so easy for me to counter him with my dread. The longfangs should have left their razorback turn one and should have focused on killing my rhinos and obliterators ASAP. The obliterators mauled his army uncontested and with the rhinos, I was able to control the momentum of the game. To be honest, when he said he was playing space wolves, I thought of some sort of net-list being brought out, but I was relieved not to see it. However, he could have a far more optimized list. Anyway, sorry for the :cussty quality of the pictures, (it's impossible to tell from the tiny LCD screen how they look) and thanks for reading. Dizz
That is some proper mental terrain. I'm going to have nightmares of goo-baby-arms for weeks. This really got me - "lord hits himself in the face with demon sword." Then a little later, "Lord punches himself in the face again." I lol'd :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/240416-chaos-space-marines-vs-space-wolves-1500pts/#findComment-2987647 Share on other sites

Then a little later, "Lord punches himself in the face again." I lol'd There four god themed open tables were really cool, but the Tzeentch table looked nearly unplayable. Daemon Weapons are certainly hit or miss for me. Mostly it goes really well, but occasionally, it doesn't... Warsmith Aznable
This really got me - "lord hits himself in the face with demon sword." Then a little later, "Lord punches himself in the face again." Daemon Weapons are certainly hit or miss for me. Mostly it goes really well, but occasionally, it doesn't... I feel your pain. Or rather, my Chaos Lord feels the pain of his own Daemon Weapon on a fairly regular basis... Good battle report and pictures. And an impressive Chaos warband, too!
