Trevak Dal
I'm painting World Eaters, and the crapton of steps involved with me painting red is starting to get old, fast. They are primed in black (Rustoleum Sandable automotive primer-great coating, and an 'off' black/dark grey). I was wondering if anyone had any experience with say, spraying with a Krylon spray paint, and then washing them and picking out the details? I really am not looking forward to the prospect of paint another 30 guys Mechrite red, P3 Skorne red and P3 Khador Red base after that, BEFORE I get to painting the details. Thanks in advance. Brother Galfridus
Why not prime white? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/240475-got-my-models-primed-and-alllooking-to-speed-things-along/#findComment-2902782 Share on other sites
Trevak Dal
Because they are already primed black... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/240475-got-my-models-primed-and-alllooking-to-speed-things-along/#findComment-2902878 Share on other sites
Seahawk
He's saying prime white, because it's much easier to paint red onto white in far fewer stages (1 stage) than it is onto black. Redfinger
Take a look at these guys that I did a while ago; They were painted using a 50/50 mix of Vallejo Black Red and Vallejo Flat Red. I know that Krylon makes a red that is very close to that shade that I have used before, I just dont recall the name of it. Any way, once your base is down then a few washes of Baal Red and a few of Devlan Mud and you are good to go. And by the way, I second using a white base over black, things just work better. champion_wasabi
From the looks of the paints that you're planning on using on your World Eaters (Mechrite, Skorne and Khador), Krylon does produce a paint called Cherry Red. Linky Maybe look into using that??? Cheers. Trevak Dal
Cool looking models Redfinger, and I think the spray paint being a 'gloss' might make it less likely to take washes and successive coats of paint... OK, let's try this from another angle, today's weather isn't really ideal for spraying stuff outside, SO, would perhaps drybrushing white over the models work? Or should I just cut my losses, strip and hope for a chance to spray sometime soon? Trevak Dal
Update: I've tried the Krylon Cherry Red spray paint, sadly I couldn't find it in any variety other than "Gloss", however, it does not seem to impede Washes as I'd read elsewhere (on a few test models). Today was finally warm enough for a "mass spraying", so I went ahead and did that, now all I got to do is wait, and go for washing/finishing the models. If they end up looking like crap, I can just strip and re-prime in white as others have suggested. I have an unfortunate amount of experience stripping an army...(Stripped my tau once because of "furry undercoat", and twice because I changed my mind mid scheme on what I wanted it...this time I'm doing all the suits and tanks first BEFORE I do the Firewarriors and Kroot :P ) Simple Green is a real lifesaver... champion_wasabi
Though you've got a lot of experience stripping models, I'm pulling for you... Especially considering that I suggested the paint to you... :wallbash: Looking forward to your results. Cheers.
