Ecritter
As the subject says I do not have the new Codex, but I have a question. Did the new Codex in any way add to the creation of the Grey Knights ... as in where they came from gene wise? *Furyou Miko
No, but the Horus Heresy novels state that they were founded by the orders of Malcador the Sigillite. thade
It's still hinted very, very strongly that their gene seed is the Emperor's himself, but those waters are still muddied. My understanding is that ADB is currently writing a GK novel. Perhaps they've given him license to shed light on their origins. (Which would be insanely awesome.) Ecritter
My reason for asking is that I'm working on a story to cover their origins, and I wanted to make sure it'd still work with the new Codex. Thanks for the replies. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/240540-grey-knights-question/#findComment-2904402 Share on other sites
Gentlemanloser
A Squillion recruits were hidden from everyone's sight on the secret moon Titan. It then disappeared into the Warp for a Squillion years (warp time). When it re-emerged into real space/time, the GK Legion was born, fully manned and trained. I belive they trained in a hyperbolic chamber, and there are over 9000 of them! ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/240540-grey-knights-question/#findComment-2904528 Share on other sites
Iron Lord
It's still hinted very, very strongly that their gene seed is the Emperor's himself, but those waters are still muddied. The phrasing: "Where the other Space Marine chapters were built upon existing stock, the Grey Knights were born of a new gene-seed, one without the flaws of those that had gone before, and which carried the gift of the Emperor's own flesh and soul." So no more "believed by some" Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/240540-grey-knights-question/#findComment-2904680 Share on other sites
thade
Not to nitpick, but...yes it's still "believed by some". That phrase, "the gift of the Emperor's own flesh and soul" could very well mean it's his gene seed in the mix...but it could also mean something much more mundane. For example, when you say somebody poured their very heart and soul into a project, you do not literally mean they melted parts of themselves down to throw em in there. Hinted very strongly. Still not definitive. That's really how 40k's fluff works. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/240540-grey-knights-question/#findComment-2904773 Share on other sites
