Mephiston - Hair sculpt for conversion

Hi folks,

Long time no see, thanks to University.

Well...

I wanted to field the Chief Librarian Mephiston for quite some time now.

But....

Compare his statline to this miniature:

I guess you can imagine what I try to point out here. His actual mini is not impressive... at all.

On my research for conversion ideas I did not find many things which appealed to me either. There are some decent ones using Astorath.

But I didn't want to go this road looking forward to the day where I maybe want to field Astorath aswell.

So I laid Mephiston to rest.

But then... some days ago I stumbled upon a picture of this reaper miniature:

And imidiately I realized the conversion potential concerning the Mephiston I had in mind.

There was still one problem. I needed a decent head with long floating hair. I didn't find anything usable. So I started out and tried some sculpting for the first time.

And this is what I came up with:

It was pretty straight forward. Rolling little sausages of Green Stuff and sticking them to the head. Nothing sophisticated, but quite fiddly. Took me around one hour to do it.

Tell me... What do you think about it?

Working on this I got better from minute to minute which resulted in the fact that the hair on the right is thicker than the hair on the left. It's not as striking in the flesh as it is in the picture, but maybe I redo some of the streaks on the right.

Talking about the final product it will be in the lines of the following picture.

It's only a crappy overly in Microsoft Paint but you get the idea.

I will upload pictures of the final conversion once the package with the Reaper mini arrives.

Well, Mephiston got his skull shoulders, a chaplain got his legs(reposed)+ other shoulder, dante got his back pack and wings, A librarian got his axe head and my chaos sorceror got 2 of those spine hafts as a staff(looked awesome)

Edit: I've bought like 8 astorath and not build a singel one:D Just harvested him for organs!

He's shiny indeed....

I have to lock my money away so that I don't go out to buy him yet.

I gathered too much unpainted stuff already. ^^

Quick update. Replaced the thick streaks on the right:

I like it so far. I would try the hair again, this time taking an xacto knife and making a TON of lines running the length of the hair strands. They shouldn't look wild like SW hair, but it will really look great with thinner strands of hair. Conversion is awesome!

Funny that you mention that, because that's how I wanted to do it at first using this easy tutorial.

But it didn't look anything like I expected it.

This it what I was going for:

Visible single streaks of hair floating in the wind.

Thank you for your comments though. Really appreciate it.

Concerning the direction of the hair. The cloth on the feet is moving in the same direction, so thats where the wind goes.

The cape is thrown around while he is moving his upper body making it point a little bit outwards. At least thats my explanation. ^^

Talking about the size of his feet. I do not know if my picture shows the right proportions. But if you are right and they turn out to be too fragile I definetly have to fix that somehow.
