1k pt team tourny

Played my first tournament with my GKs yesterday. It was a team tourny, 1k per player. It was a learning experience for all but enjoyable.

 

My partner was playing:

Vulkan

1 Tac squad with meltagun, multimelta, powerfist/combimelta sgt, drop pod

1 Tac squad with meltagun, multimelta, powerfist/combimelta sgt, lasback

2 Melta dreads with drop pods

 

I had:

Crowe

Coteaz

10 Purifiers with 1 hammer, 4 psycannons, 5 halberds, psybolts, rhino w/extra stormbolter

9 Purifiers with 1 hammer, 2 psycannons, 6 halberds, psybolts, rhino w/extra stormbolter

 

I made a mistake when I was writing the list the night before. I originally had a vindicaire instead of Coteaz but decided I wanted the free shots on pod dreads and such. What I failed to notice was that I couldnt have 4 psycannons in a 9 man Purifier squad until I was writing my list down for the judge. So I dropped the psycannons and threw on the storm bolters just to add up some of the points and still came up to 938, no biggie.

 

I only really remember the last game so I'll throw out what I can recall from each game.

 

Game 1

Mini Fatecrusher and SW on a city fight board

A ard boyz scenario with spearhead deployment 3 objectives line up from corner to corner and "fog" in the two unoccupied quarters.

 

I've played this daemon player many times in the final round of our singles tournies with my SW. He knows how to play this army, and well. His list was Fateweaver, 7 crushers, bloodthirster, and 6 nurgling bases in squads of 3. The SW player plays the same army as mine so I knew what to expect from him. He had 1 rune priest, 2 GH squads with standard, melta, combimelta/powerfist sgt in rhinos, 2 vindicators, 1 ven meltadread in pod. Lots of bad rolls for vehicle killing in this game. Between both sides podding in a total of 3 meltadreads and a tac squad split into combat squads only 1 Vindicator was immobilized all game... Lots of terrain really restricted movement so we were walled in on one side by a building and the entire daemon army. The other side was facing down 2 vindicators. Long story short I face rolled daemons when I got out of my rhinos but it was too late. Time ran out on turn 3 and we couldn't reach the nurglings holding the 2 quarter objectives. Oh and Crowe died to a random vindicator round aiming for a rhino. Major loss for us +3 modifiers though.

 

Game 2

New Ork player and a newish DE player

ard boyz Headhunter scenario

 

I won't go into details on this because the ork player hadn't played but maybe 2 games before the tourny and the DE last played in 3rd edition I think, maybe 4th. It was modified KPs of course but just know that the game ended with us having 25 and only giving them 4 KPs. It got to the point where we were trying to give them advice on where they should move to best affect us. They were good sports about it though and I did lose the entire 10 man squad to 2 killakans and 10ish boyz in hth. My shooting failed me miserably the turn before. So it was a massacre +7(judge for this tourny decided that some modifiers could be claimed by both teammates, it was weird). But this brought us back in the running.

 

Game 3

Foot slogging ork horde and strange GK with no real direction

When I first saw these two armies I was thinking easy win instantly. The ork had 2 30 man boyz mobs, 1 30 man ardboyz mob, 1 bigmek with field, 1 def dread, and 1 zapp gun. The GK player had 1 5 man purifier squad with all halberds, 2 5 man strike squads 1 with all halberds and 1 all swords, a dreadknight with incinerator, PT, and sword, 1 random inquisitor that did nothing, 8ish purgation squad with 4 cannons, and a vindicaire assassin. We started off way too agressive and came out of turn 2 with 1 dead dred, the pod tacsquad dead, vulkan running off the table, and 7 of my 10 purifiers dead from hth with 1 30 man mob. Always nice to fail 5 armour saves in one round of combat. So I send Crowe to save my 3 purifiers while my teammate deals with the first turn shunted DK in our DZ. Coteaz and friends handle the ard boyz after 2 turns and claim an objective with just him and the KotF remaining in their rhino. Crowe and his 2 faithful purifiers charge the next 30 man boyz and kill all but 7 between 2 cleansing flames, the purifiers attacks, and the fearless saves. At the end of the game the ork was tabled, the GK had his assassin(who killed my lone purifier in hth), 5 of his purgation, and his random inquistor left but no objectives. We had coteaz and 1 KotF in rhino, Crowe with 1 wound, a meltadread, lasback, and lone powerfist sgt but both objectives. We managed to pull out 2 more KP than them giving us a massacre +3(I think).

 

In the end we tied for 2nd with 56 points first place had 62. The other 2nd place team got the prize though because they had 3 wins and we had 2 and a loss. All in all a good day. Coteaz has a ridiculous fear factor with his free shots at reserve units and comming with dark ex. The daemon player avoided him as long as he possible could. Those poor crushers...never had a chance... Crowe is also better than people make him out to be. Nobody wants their supreme CC HQ getting sucked into the warp. And 2 cleansing flames is GG for horde units.
