"If the other wolf lords still knew fear, they would fear Erik Morkai."

Brother,

I am a 22 year hobby vet, but never really played and only just getting into the books and fluff over the last year, so i am reaching around the fang, for advice

How is that looking compared to the fluff?

how much is in a great company?

from a gaming point of view does this look quite competative?

cheers and may the ale be long and cold

FOR RUSS AND THE ALLFATHER

TILL THE WOLFTIME!

Glad to see someone looking to focus on Erik, I have some plans for Gunnar Red Moon myself :P

I'd recommend altering some of your bolter scouts to have Meltaguns/Plasma Guns/Flamers, those special weapons make the squads much more effective. Alternatively, it might be fun to design them for a close combat focus - that would fit with Erik's yay-violence approach.

Consider using Wolf Priests or Wolf Guard Battle Leaders with the Saga of the Hunter with Wolf Scouts. Not crazy effective, but fun.

Maybe model one of the Rune Priests (or one of the Njals) as Erik's brother, Irnst the Wise?

Little fluff gives the size of a Great Company, and I believe those which do tend to disagree. General Consensus seems to say they're larger than a standard company. Since Space Wolves ignore the Codex Astartes and cannot have successor chapters, it's not unreasonable to have 'em be a fair bit bigger than your typical Company.

Common accepted GC size is 100 men, give or take a few dozen (as Tiberius mentions). I don't "think" this includes HQ options, as RPs/WPs are outside of the GC ranking, but it would include vehicle crew as those are comprised of Grey Hunters.

I agree with giving your non-sniper scouts a meltagun per.

Not that you have to follow the fluff created for Erik, but he is heavily reliant on his scout squads and likes to coordinate fast surgical strikes that soften up the enemy before he brings the hammer down for the finishing blow.

as suggested break up your scout squads into 3 distinct groups such as:

5 sniper + 1 ML or HB

4 BP/CCM + 1 MotW + 1 Melta

4 BG/BP + 1 PP + 1 Melta

Have about 4 or 5 interchangeable WG to join up with your 3 scout squads and even consider a Wolf Priest geared to join them with Mark of the Hunter.

Land Speeders would be useful in your list.

Increase your swiftclaw unit to include an Attack Bike and a Wolf Guard on a bike, possibly later add a Wolf Guard Battle Leader on a bike SS/TH.

That would give you more of an typical Erik list.

Can't have 3 scouts squads and wolf guard, wolf guard and Scouts share the elite spots. Through I would probably change the last squad to match the first, Bolters are pretty much nufflied by all the power armour going about and it's always better to rush in and tangle that squad up, then it is to simply shoot at them, inflict damage but leave them otherwise opperational. Pistols at dawn then rush for 3 strength 4 attacks on the target, not to mention mark/Powerfist from wolf guard, if they are still alive, they won't be doing much. Perfect for tying up units and easpically perfect when the oppoment finds they can't fire devs/hammerheads/simlar shooting unit when they really need that firepower.

Otherwise, completely agreed, Scouts in combination with Landspeeders, Grey Hunters, Fangs and possibly some swiftclaws snuck in will probably give a very good impression of swift, desruptive, no nonsense tactics that will isloate parts of the oppoments army and destory it with the efficency of a pack.

Though that being said, I am not sure why

You can if you bring Logan.

But normally you can't.

I understand this, we are talking about a Great Company, not a game list. The ability to have a choice ready on the shelf is what I am suggesting.

Ahhhh, fair enough. ^^ Forgive I didn't quite twig on that.

There be praying snipers become cooler. ^^

Army painter Wolf grey!

for the badge i drew the out line lightly in pencil, then filled in mixed the base colour with a touch more soace wolves grey in to in and carefully went round the out side edge of the symbol.

then mix base with a touch of black feathering away from the symbol to add a bit of depth

I like your thought process on Morkai and his Great Company. That being said when I think of a guy who uses his scouts alot and represents a more stealth approach the whole Thunderhammer thing is not doing it for me. In my little opinion (for whatever that is worth) you might look at a blade for him to carry. Frost Blade or Wolf Claw. Morkai does not strike me as the big burly hammer wielding type. That is just me though.

I use the Frost Blade exclusively. I have three different versions of my Wolf Lord and in each one he has a Frost Blade (Axe). Maybe not the most effective all the time but it goes with my fluff and I have never played in a tourney and regretted it. Just my two cents buddy...good luck with the project.
