Axes

Would Chainaxes have the same stats as Chainswords and be a legal (GW tourney legal) "proxy as" in a game? Or does FW have their own rules for ChainAxes that's acceptable for use in GW tournaments?

Also, Space Wolves comes with combat knives and such would a normal axe be fine to model with or would that have problems in tourneys?

I've been thinking about just picking up some small ones and attaching them to their backpacks or sides, like with the combat knives, just for aesthetics, but I'm curious about actual gameplay/rules.

Thanks

They are close combat weapons, unless rules specifically state (Bloodclaw; CHAINSWORD ONLY) then anything that can be used as a melee weapon would count.

I mean, if you wanted to you could model a sharp looking stick and say that's your melee weapon. (That gives me the oddest wish to see a druid-style SM army) :P

chainswords are chainweapons, which are CCW. as are combatknives and axes. even spiked clubs, spears, glaives or whatever would work.

Dismembers arms and legs, boards with nails in them, sock full of quarters... if it's something you'd smack someone over the head with and it isn't a "power" weapon or any other pre-established combat weapon, then it is considered a CCW. Previous editions used to make distinctions between a combat knife and a chainsword/axe, but they've tossed that out to simplify things. Also, chainaxes exist in GW already (see Chaos marines), and they're just considered chainweapons, only differing in shape from chainswords.

The Space Wolf pack box comes with an axe.. no one's mentioned that yet?

I like the chaos marauders' arsenal for BCs and Scouts, but I probably wouldn't go so "lo-tech" with my GHs. As for my WGTDA, I'm considering making some power mauls out of the Ogre Kingdoms array of clubs.

That ones more ornate and designed to be a power/ frost axe.

The marauder horsemen ones are pretty good.

One tip if using the Khorne chainaxes. Don't use the original hands. They're bigger than the standard SM hands so cut the weapon off.

I used the power swords and axes from the old SW kit for my GH's. I think chain-swords for BC's are iconic and see giving them a Fenrisian sword or axe is a honorific for attaining GH status.

I do have one pack of GH's which still retain their chain-swords from their BC days. They are pack "Blood Fang" and they paint their pack symbol on the chain-swordh (two red canines)

I recently purchased a box of Chaos Marauder horsemen to get the axes from that set. I convert them onto regular Space Wolf arms/hands.

But, you can use anything as a Close Combat Weapon:

eBay here I come :D

The Marauder Horsemen box for Fantasy was actually pretty cheap: $22 where I live in Canada, which is almost half the price of a Space Wolves box. You may be able to find the whole box cheaper on eBay, but if you're thinking of buying the bits individually, it might actually be cheaper (and certainly quicker) for you to just buy the box.
