would you refuse to play me if..?

I put my army down and then declared that all standard Battle Sister models (so not Sister Superiors) armed with Storm Bolters were actually equipped with Heavy Bolters?

I'm trying to find ways to fight my lack of funds, and sisters are insanely expensive even on Ebay. Especially when I buy six Battle Sisters with Bolters and get three with Bolters and three with Storm Bolters.

So the question is; would anyone here refuse this army-wide counts as rule?

If I couldn't visibly (and easily) distinguish between the weapon types, I wouldn't necessarily refuse to play you.

But you wouldn't get to play at any tournament, club and shop games that I've been to, due to WYSIWYG rulings there. :)

As long as it's easy for someone like me who doesn't really know the Sisters' models to easily tell the difference I wouldn't particularly care...

Exactly. So long as it is a "dummy-proof" proxy, I'd be good with it.

I'd be fine with an "all storm bolters are heavy bolters" proxy; it's simple, clear, and consistent.

I only object to proxying if it gets unclear; "this storm bolter is a heavy bolter, but this identical looking storm bolter in the other squad is a meltagun, and that storm bolter in the third squad is a heavy flamer..." would be a no-go for me.

Do something to bulk those storm bolters up; add ork bullet feeds and maybe extend the barrels a bit.

Provided nobody in the army has legit storm bolters, this kind of thing will fly for friendly games. I can't see it flying in a tournie, as people have said.

One thing to consider for a friendly game...

Attach a toothpick to the base of the model, put on a bit of tape or paper with the words "heavy bolter" on it :) Short, simple, to the point. Obviously the paper flag doesn't count for LoS purposes.

^^ Thanks, all. Just got back from my first game with this proxy, and it went very well. My Retributors didn't get to shoot anything, but my SCS owned Scout backside!

On the other hand, the "Recover the Relics" Sisters' Battle Mission seriously favours the enemy, especially if they're a 10th company army or includes a Vindicare!

Ojectives are very, very fragile, and all the enemy has to do is destroy them... or kill the Sister carrying them if I find one!

People like to try things before they invest a large chunk of money and painting time into a new element in their army: why drop a hundred bucks on some land speeders, spend the time to paint them up, only to discover you loathe how they feel and play in your army?

One extreme example was a guy that wanted to try a Dark Elf army; he did end up buying it, but before he did, he asked a buddy of mine if he'd mind "some extreme proxies". He then grabbed a codex and some movement trays and scribbled the numbers and upgrades for each unit on scraps of paper. He then played a game against my buddy's models, making notes on the paper as things died. (He did, I think, end up buying Dark Elves.) It may seem silly, but when you consider buying yourself into a new army can easily run $400-$700, I think it's extremely smart!

Just clear it with your opponent on the get-go.
