Too many colors

Hey folks, new guy here. :)

I am doing an army with some henchmen and some grey knight marines. So my first question is how do you paint your henchmen? Secondly, what do you do for your inquisitors? Sometimes I am going to run Corteaz, sometimes a terminator Inqiusitor, sometimes both of them, other times maybe a grenade carrying crummy armor Inquisitor with Coteaz.

Do I pick one color scheme for all my inquisitor HQs? Do I paint my henchmen the same scheme as the Inquisitors? What do you folks do?

:) Everything depends on you and how you see your Inquisitors running their henchmen.

Do your Inquisitors work closely together? Do they wear equipment so similar that it could come from the same place? If not, then they will probably have their own individual appearance.

As for the henchmen, if the Inquisitor is arrogant or organized enough to give his henchmen uniforms, then they'll have them. If not, then they'll wear whatever they can get their hands on :o

Personally, if I was going to field more than one Inquisitor, I'd like to see the variation between the two of them- I'd likely have an Orthodox/Conservative one who has an intense attention to detail and sees his Henchmen as his own personal legion, so equips them with matching gear, while the other Inquisitor is more Radical/goal-focused and doesn't really care how the job gets done- so none of his henchmen will look alike, and neither will they resemble the Inquisitor.

Here's what I do :) It works for me, and looks relatively together on the tabletop.

All my Sisters units are Sacred Rose (white armor, black robes with red inner robe). The Grey Knights are well, themselves. I give the Grey Knights bone tabbards with one or two red capes where appropriate (my converted Brother-Captain really at the moment, eventually a Brotherhood Champion, etc). Not sure about my Lirbarian yet but I'll worry about him later. He's also the only one with a sword... ahem..

The Inquisition took me a little while, but what I've done so far is used red innermost cloth (jumpsuit on ISTs), black armor, and bone outermost cloth (jacket, tabbard, robe). Really I'm using the same 4 or 5 colors across the whole force and it gels pretty well.

For some of the Ecclesiarchy models, I have red robes, with actually a light grey hood or trim color. Again, very close to my main pallet of red, black, then white/bone/grey. There's some slight variation going on, but it's relatively uniform so everything sticks together.

I also keep all my weapons black with boltgun metal, so they look uniform across the seperate forces as well. I used to color code it, but I swapped how I'm doing it and am redoing all my older paintjobs to match my current standard. Lenses likewise match (all electric blue), wargear is painted all the same, etc.

It might not be entirely realistic per fluff to have every henchmen using the same several colors, but it's working for me.

edit: I should clarify that fluffwise my Inquisitors are all pupils of the same "master" who is my third Inquisitor.. thus binding them together and getting some fluff unison for my forces.

:) Everything depends on you and how you see your Inquisitors running their henchmen.

:o Thats alot of options then. :o

I was leaning towards outdoorsy wilderness type sneaky looking henchmen, with plant and earth tones. Guess I should make my run of the mill inquisitor match with those. Corteaz I feel like should have special colors. The inquisitor in terminator armor I am not sure on./

I've been painting my Henchmen army with a variety of colors, to show that they are the dribs and dregs of society. But I've been paining a unifying color (in my case white) on every model in order to tie the force together. Some have white robes, some white pants, others white hoods or scarfs. This allows me to paint models individually, but with a unifying theme across the force.
