Under barrel plasma launcher

I was searching for a way to do a combi-plasma. I found this excellent tutorial by tahrikmili. like a lot of thing it was not to my liking as IMO it look to much like a plasma gun with a one shot bolter. I was seeking something more like the Commander's set Combi-Plasma

after a few thinking I came up with that

first cut the red line and after the orange.

place plasma pistol under the bolter and reglue the bolter cannon a little bit higher

it took 5 minutes to do the second one, ok it will need a little bit of filling but you get the idea :P

This is fantastically timed, I'm trying to find a way of making combi-weapons without having to buy the bits individually or get an entire Commander. Any suggestions about how to construct a combi-melta along the same lines?

Not too shabby for a quick bang-up conversion. The onyl thing bothering me is that the bolter magazine and plasma charge canister could never be changed in combat. The magazine would be very awkward to remove from the bolter, and the plasma canister can't be removed at all while a magazine is inserted into the magazine well.

 

Have you considered cutting in the opposite orientation? Flip the pistol upside down, cut along the center (under the plasma coil) and leaving a small notch before the muzzle vents. You can then move the bolter barrel upward inline with the ejection port, and attach the plasma section in place of the handguard. If you really want to retaint he plasma canister, carefully cut it off the pistol frame and glue it to the side of the newly-created combiplasma.

combiplasla is a one shot only so i don't think it's a problem :tu:

lol, in game, absolutely. On the field of battle, yuc an bet your backside the carrier has some spare ammo for that combi on his person. You don't see modern soldiers carrying a single loaded grenade in their underslung grenade launchers :).

Not too sure on the plasma coils being so close to a magazine myself though. Explosive ammo and high temperatures...

It looks great, but too bulky for my liking. I found that usig a plasma pistol as a more reliable method of converting. I always come by more plasma pistols than I do plasma guns

Looks great but have you considered cutting the bottom off and flipping the top bit upside down instead?

I shaved the bits and smoothed the top of a bolter, then cut a plasma pistol in half, just under the coils and glued it on top of the bolter. Looks like it was meant to be there!
