NemFX
Okay, I know that this is probably frowned upon, but I'm not the best vehicle modeller, so I thought I'd ask. Has anyone tried to make a Valkyrie be able to literally drop it's troop compartment? I know it's an IG vehicle, but I have a Valkyrie and a Storm Raven, and welllllll... Ugly flying brick is ugly. So, I was thinking of using a Valkyrie as a proxy, but I thought 'How cool would it be to make a diorama base where the troop compartment is being dropped and the troops are all jumping out to get into the fight even faster?' .. The answer of course was four mega-Fonzies on the coolometer. So yeah, anyone tried to essentially turn the Valkyrie into Thunderbird 2 (with pod 4, why yes I am a multispectrum geek..) or have any ideas on how it could be done? I have a new one coming in the mail, so if it can be done, it shall be. (I also had a cool idea to make a lazcannon guy shooting a Khorne berzerker in half, James Bond style, on the way down. "Why no Mr Bond, I expect you to die." FREEM!) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/240966-insane-idea-help-needed/ Share on other sites

apologist
The Imperial Guard Valkyrie Sky Talon would be a good start for bits. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/240966-insane-idea-help-needed/#findComment-2910202 Share on other sites
NemFX
Hah. If I had Forgeworld money, I'd get a Contemptor. Brother-Chaplain Kage
You don't see real troop transports like that because it's unfeasible and a lot more dangerous than simply having troops jump out with parachutes, or disembark. Elric the Silvercoat
Why don't you use the Dragon Gunship from Avatar as a basics for a Stormbird. NemFX
to be honest, my inspirations really are more based around thunderbird 2, and the transport ship from starship troopers, and a bit from the starcraft dropships Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/240966-insane-idea-help-needed/#findComment-2910611 Share on other sites
HellHunter
Actually, I could totally see a Space Marine chapter using something like this. It could fly in during an epic battle and drop a big metal bawks on top of a platoon of enemy troops and then a bunch of marines come out and kill the survivors. :D An idea; what if you took the Stormraven and used the extension kit from Chapter House Studios http://www.chapterhousestudios.com/webshop...30&vmcchk=1 and added a troop compartment made out of plasticard on the bottom of the vehicle with small rocket engines on the corners of it? I hope that makes sense to you... <_< Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/240966-insane-idea-help-needed/#findComment-2911522 Share on other sites
NemFX
Yep, that makes sense, but the problem is, I have a stormraven (the ugly little duckling that it is..) and i tried to extend it before chapterhouse made that kit, andddd yeah. turns out im not very good at that. but the valkyrie is a better model overall. ill throw together a doodle or two of what im thinking of. the idea is less for the marines to stay IN the box until it lands, and more of a 'drop the box so the ship can go do stuff, while the marines are jumping out of the box on the way down so they can do extra physics-based damage. if the box does any damage, awesome, but the idea is that the box can get picked up later. or not. whatever. its a box. NemFX
Okay, so, got the Valkyrie. I think what I'm gonna do is make the box part first, then build the rest of it around that. "But Nem, that's how its normally built!" .. Well yeah. If you build stuff with instructions. When I got my first Valkyrie, it didn't HAVE instructions, so I kinda.. Make it a little wrong. The wings are apparently on the wrong way around, and I forgot part of the engines. Oh well. But yeah. The idea is, make the box, either magnetize it, or do something to the effect where I can have it removed on command, or perhaps I'll literally model it to show a combat drop.. I haven't really decided that yet. And build the rest of the thing around it.
