Brotherhood Champion's base?

I'm planning on building a brotherhood champion for my grey knights but was wondering if it is too cheeky to stick him on a 40mm base instead of 25mm?

I just want him to stand out a bit more from the other power armour marines on a bigger scenic base but as his rules for attacking use btb models it might be seen as cheating by giving him a larger base.

As you say, some people would claim you are modeling for advantage by giving him a bigger base since one of his rules is directly affected by his base size.

Which is unfortunate, since if anyone in the GK dex deserves a scenic base, its the BC.

I've put all the characters in my Space Wolves army on 40mm bases, down to and including Wolf Guard pack leaders in Power Armour. I think it is an absolutely terrific way of distinguishing your army leadership. However, that being said, this has a net zero sum gain for a regular model that does not have a special rule impacted by the larger base size. For Brotherhood Champions, you've got a completely different issue in that their attacks are directly related (in certain instances) to how many enemy models are in base contact. This very clearly can give you an advantage, and cause problems with some oppontents.

My recommendation? Make the model as you see fit, using the larger base, but have a "backup" Champion model on a 25mm base that you can substitute in if anyone has heartburn with your primary champion model.

I've never had a problem with putting HQ models on larger bases. In fact I think the ruling is that you can never put a model on a smaller base, though a larger one is fine.

LC, that was the rule in the 4th Edition of the game, in 5th Edition it was changed to "models should be mounted on the base they are supplied with."

Usually people are more likely to call shenanigans on using a smaller-than-assigned base than using a bigger one. A bigger one means you get a somewhat larger threat range for an assault charge out of a vehicle when disembarking, but your model is an IC and can be engaged more easily by more enemy models that may wish to single him out.

Bottom-line: if his base looks awesome, nobody's going to complain. (Well...there's always somebody who wants to complain, but do a good job and most TOs I know would admit it on the rule-of-cool.)

Just my 2 cents but in the puppies codex there arose a similar problem with canis wolfborn as he gains attacks for the guys he is in base to base contact with. In the codex it states that he should not be mounted on a base that is bigger than the one he is supplied with as you could take advantage of his ruling that way.

However if it looks cool and you clear it with your opponent it should be fine, however in tourneys it won't fly.

Maybe you could mount him on a standard base and 'insert' him into a dioramic base but you can still remove him from it and use a normal base should your opponents lawyering wants you to :)
