New player, needing advice

I play dwarves in Warhammer Fantasy....and was told that Wolves would be a good fit for me and my play style tendencies.

I was torn between Blood Angels and Wolves and just decided on Wolves or else I would be contemplating for a while still lol

dammit grantyr, what's this! have we forgotten what sacred place we are in? HAVE WE???

no we haven't!3 posts without offering the whelp an ale! this will not do! here bee, have a sip of mine and welcome to the fang!

first off all you need to know most of us are a jolly band of joyfull minds bonded together by our love for the space wolves. you'll find superb tacticians here such as DV8 as will you find our runelords alike such as valerian who can quote you every sentence evezr written about the space wolves! you'll find wonderful painters and tricksters minds alike. frankly said, if the fang doesn't have it you don't want it!

since you're only starting out i advise you to read as much as you can about the wolves before even buying a single unit (but then again i'm into the wolves for our fluff, not for the gaming). do the same with the bloodangels (someone of your friends must have some black library books about them?), see which themes and underlying shemes you like best. even just reading all the stories in both of the codexes can make you go "oww man i want to be a space wolf/bloodangels (not trying to be biased here :P )! those guys are so bad ass"

so once more, welcome to the fang whelp!

Playing tendencies:

Slow

Methodical

Wait for the opening and then kick the :P outta that spot and cave the enemies army in with overwhelming force

Other times I will just let the opponent over extend themselves while i wait for the proper moment to hit

Hope this helps a little lol

Lets start with the basics, get at-least 26 grayhunters a rune priest and some longfangs with rocket and 1 or 2 las. get 2 rino's but buy the razorback box as its the same price and gives the razor back option for free.

Field this and see where it gets you and what road you want to go next is up to your play style.

On to that you can go aggressive or defensive in your next choices.

Space Wolves are like all marines in that they are generalists. Where we excell is that we have alot of flexability in each of our units. A unit of Grey Hunters is like a unit of Quarrellers with the Ranger upgrade: put them where you need them and you know theyll get the job done against anything but the most elite enemy units of massive volleys.

My advice: never skimp on your troops. Troops are important: they take your objectives, they roll through lesser troops and they support your spearheads. They also give you the durability as an army that you need against the likes of imperial gaurd artillery and the power weapon wielding hordes of khornate demons. For every 500pts in your army a full 10 man squad of Grey Hunters is a good start.

Grey Mage summed up the first basic well one pack of grey Hunters per 500 points (though no disrespect to Grey Mage) a Max size pack isnt needed UNLESS you play like me and insist running everywhere without the aid of transports ! you can get by with 5 and a razorback its about the same point cost as 5 grey hunters if you buy the lascannon uprgrade....... that said the rest of the army is up to you as Hendrik said read absolutley everything you can lay ya paws on! in doing this you may be inspired to build a paticular unit or character rather than just slapping together a few units that look powerful......

Good luck! and welcome to the fang!

Its true- some people do the 5+Razorback thing and it works for them. I find it hurts the durability of an army in a manner thats just not acceptable...

But I have that rarest of things: 10-20% of the local player base brings tau to the table, even on tournament day. AV 11 just isnt durable enough to hold the firepower of my army and make up for the 5 bodies I could have had. Not saying I go without a transport- but its either a cheap as chips rhino or rhinos with EA... razorbacks just die/lose their gun way to quickly.
