Angels Sanguine WIP project

I've taken a serious liking to the half red half black coloration of this Blood Angels successor, and I'm currently toying with the idea of forming up a smallish force of them just for the excuse to convert a little and paint in a new scheme.

It was also a great way to rationalize buying a package of Sanguinary Guard. They're about 65% done, and please excuse the pics. Camera phone. Will take some better ones later, when it's not 3AM / I know where my camera is. (Hows does that happen?)

I know fluff-wise ALL successor chapters maintain the Artificer armor that SG wear as golden, but... the half-scheme is prevalent through the rest of the chapter, so I went with Gold / Red. Just because. Purists, I am sorry.

Any tips or criticisms? I'd love to hear from you guys.

My only minor critic is to drill the barrels! It add realism to the model.

Again very good work there.I hope to see more soon!

I love the 'dirty' look of these guys. I've gone for a much cleaner look on my angels sanguine (as seen in my blog [/plug]) but seeing the awesome work you've done on these is making me regret it a little. The red and gold is also an awesome combination when pained in your style. How did you do the red? More please! :P

The red is a monstrous Frankenstein of an experiment. Haha.

Black undercoat, a few thinned out layers of mechrite red.

Highlight the edges with Mechrite and Skull white mixed maybe 70/30, then again, a thinner line, with more white this time.

Drybrush the red portion of the armor with fortress gray.

Note: At this point your minis will look like pink-suit wearing fiends that have just done cannonballs into a mountain of cocaine. That is normal.

Multiple washes of Baal Red, and finish with a watered down layer of Liquitex Carbon Black Ink.

I appreciate the compliments! I'm going to be out of town for a few days because of a funeral, but I should be able to get some work done tomorrow and resume next week.

He now has arms. Arms are good for killing the enemies of the Imperium, so I count this as measurable and pleasing progress.

The overhead lighting is strong and for some reason all the lightning on the axe came out looking completely white. It's strange. But. What am I gonna do?

One that's essentially finished

I'm wanting the gold to be really faded and worn-seeming, almost like... if the plasteel and titanium had been plated in burnished gold, and though the servitors have faithfully maintained the workings of such old artificer armor, that it's simply starting to shrink away to reveal the blackened metal underneath. Like... beyond patina. A dream machine that can go 0-60 in the Salt Flats in record time that's been sandblasted by its own fury.
