Blitzkrieg861
I saw a thread a while back where it seemed like the poster had names for almost every one of his marines. I thought this was a pretty cool idea and I'm considering doing something like this for my vehicles. The vehicle sprues come with a little banner that would do well for having a name written on it and glued somewhere on the front. It seems like a lot of the Space Marine names and such are Latin, or something similar, and I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me confirm this and/or point me in a good direction of where I could begin such a task of naming my vehicles in a fluffy way. BlackKnight1239
Well. there are a lot of ways you can name vehicles. Latin titles do indeed work, but of course regular english (consider to be "low gothic") and names work well. Like Nubes Sanguinea, a Storm Raven attached to the Sanguinary Guard, the Hammer of Baal, a Godhammer-pattern Land Raider, or Tragedy, a rhino transport of a unit of Death Company. SnorriSnorrison
I named my first Baal 'Wrathbringer', the second 'Hymn of Fury', but I wrote their names in German, which I think sounds more 'low gothic'. Latin-alike names are popular as well, but too often full of mistakes as soon it comes to declination of words, mostly genitive. Lunargent
My Stormraven was named the Death Bus by a friend of mine after it rained doom on his Eldar army. I tend to let names let that stick and just "High Gothic" them up... Castiel
I have names for all of the vehicles in my Word Bearers army. I have a Rhino called "The Old Faith" to imply its long service to the Legion and the faith its squad has in it to transport them safely into battle, but it also ties in to the WB's background. My Defiler is called the "soulforged" as a reeference to all those killed to make it. Looking at the background is always a great source of inspiration. Another route is to name it after a particular event in one of your games, for instance there was a guy on here asking for ideas for names for him Rhino which had killed a Carnifex by ramming it! EDIT: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...t=0&start=0 Here's the topic! Black Marshal
i come up with my names on the fly after i have gotten to know marines. for example i have a dreadnought named Steve the drunk. Steve normally stumbles around rolls triple ones and blows up. we even have this whole back story for him that we was drunk in a bar and they needed someone for the dreadnought and quickly threw him in before he could sober up and now he is in a constant state of drunk. so see what they do and how they work and they will get their own names good or bad Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/241166-naming-vehicles/#findComment-2912833 Share on other sites

vharing
I have a Stormraven called Blood Hammer and a LRC named Pride of Baal. I have been trying to name all of my squads and vehicles as well. I am using italian renaissance names for troops but have yet to come up with a naming system for my vehicles, other than whatever I happen to think of off the top of my head. Israfel
Names of the Angels, Philosophers and Artist of old (western and eastern cultures mixed up) for squad sergeants (Gabriel, Leonardo, Khayyam, Avicenna, Raphael, Rhaseza, etc.) and Greek mythology references for vehicles (Hector, Achilles, Apollo, etc.) ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/241166-naming-vehicles/#findComment-2913862 Share on other sites
Losfer Werds
Though I always thought "Baal Breaker" would be a hilarious name for a Land Raider. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/241166-naming-vehicles/#findComment-2914202 Share on other sites
Brother Chris
My Landraider Crusader is called 'Pride of Baal' too. The Razorback is Devastatrix (female devastator). Others are variations on the '...of Baal' theme. Dan Abnett names all tanks individually in his Gaunt's Ghosts series, many with slogan names like the minds in Ian Bank's Culture novels which I think works very well. Myxx
I spent some time in the US Coast Guard and name all my Rhinos after 210ft cutters. So I have a Valiant, Vigorous, Dauntless, etc. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/241166-naming-vehicles/#findComment-2914564 Share on other sites
Father Mapple
I have themes. My drop pods are named after comets, attack vehicles are named after Terran animals, transports named after mythical places or animals on Terra, and speeders/flyers are named after Terran birds. They're all in fake greek/latin too. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/241166-naming-vehicles/#findComment-2914911 Share on other sites
Taranis
I have considered the same idea. So far I got lucky and found a site with angelic names. It's in my signature. Not all are equally "good" or "epic" sounding. Perhaps some could be useful. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/241166-naming-vehicles/#findComment-2915877 Share on other sites
