Greetings. So yesterday creative destruction, a local independent gaming store held its first tournament. 4 games all with twists of their own. 3 1500 points games and one750 point game. So anyway my list was

Mepheson

Librarian , jump pack with shield and unleash rage

Priest with jump pack and power weapon

10 man assault squad with first and 2 melta

10 man assault squad with power weapon and power weapon and melta bombs

5 an assault squad, melta and power weapon, flamerback

Baal, heavy bolter sponsons

There was a variety of armys on display, I faced an ork, grey knights, nid and space marine player. My results were 2 losses and 2 wins

First game vs orks.

All games were long table edge deployment

First game was rescue thefallen d6+2 objectives, deployed in a centeral crater, that only scoring units could claim, but they could take them with them(model lifting the objective couldn’t shoot)nuber objectives were written down at the end of each game turn. Stupidly I went first, should have went second... oh and the crater has auto defences that shotat nearest unit with d6 str3rending shots...

I went first went straight for the objectives with my assault squads and mephy whilst my baals tried to shoot up my opponents battle wagons (failed, only got 1 rending shot all game...) lost a few marines in each squad due to autolasers and dangerous terrain checks... bad move, I also left myself in charge range, and the auto lasers weren’t as bad to the as they were to me... off the bat they were able to get the charge, first turn was a bad move by me. They kept the pressure on and eventually killed that unit but not before mephy joined to help wipe out that unit but bad start was a sign of things to come. Vindicator did little before it died. Another boy squad joined in the melee before y next squad was able to join in. When the soke cleared I had only mephy on 1 wound and my libarina, a priest and a few men left. Then zagstruck arrived... luckily he didn’t arrive where hewas intending but the following turn was able to catch my razor squad and kill all bar the sarge who fled. (and did nothing else the rest of the game) mean while the scattered reminants of my forces were being ripped apart, one baal got immobilised and then charged by nobs and a warboss.... needless to say it was wrecked. My vindicator and razorback suffered a similar fate( not being able to kill those battle wagons meant their fire and cargo crippled me. And I lost the few objectives I managed to get. Mepheston was able to charge and kill zagstruck, but then was taken out in his moment of glory by the autolasers... we finished the game round there, 19 to 7. Game 1 to the orks.

Game 2 vs grey knights

This I was dreading from the start, force weapons and hammers vs mepheston. Not good... anyway game was objectives, but again with a twist. You had to find them. Each 2x2 quadrant would have one area where an objective could be. To search it the searching unit had to take a dangerous terrain test. If you survived (I only used 5 men to search and lost 3 of them to searching...)you rolled 2d6, and if the roll was10+ you successfully discovered one. Whoever had the most won. They grey knights had 2 termy squads, a vindicare assassin 2 purifier squads and a grey knight grandmaster. And an orbital bombardment which never came as when he wanted to use it I was in cc.

He won deployment and spread out along his side of the field, mistake... I placed everything in one square bar one baal which went to the opposite side. Said baal got its 1st round of shooting at the opposite termy squad before losing its assault cannons, but still shot at them all game and harassed them all game, even killing a few. The grey knights termys held their positions searching their buildings for objectives whilst the purifiers moves to challenge the side of the field I was threatening. the termys took the gun off my vindicator I moved everything forward together, one assault squad firing at the assassin and managed to kill it with a single melta shot(2+ cover save was failed...)everything was close enoughtha in my next turn it would be able to charge. Greyknights termys continued to search for objectives and to shoot at e but with little effect. The purifiers were now in a position where they would be able to counter charge if I assaulted the termys, although they forgot this means I was in charge range of them too, thinking I wouldn’t charge them due to their halbards... yeah right...

searched and found nothing my turn. Everything gunned forward, my flamerback immobilised itself, and I shot a little and charged, the melta squad charging the first purifier squad, and thouh tey killed a few before I struck I managed to make good use of my phsycic hoods blocking most of his hammer hand attempts and caused more casultys due to furious chargeand so won and fought on. Eanwhile the other assault squad with ephy took on the terys and grandmaster. Mephy hitting him a few ties and killing a few termys but the master survived this round, grandmaster failed to do anything, and a few of my assault guys died but so did termys, cobat tied and I consolidated into cc. Next turn I wiped the out master included and consolidate away and they watched the other assault squad being butcherd but the charge of the second purifier squad. At this point I was sure I was going to loose as I was already beaten and bloodied and didn’t think I could take on 2 large squads with what I had, nevermind the other termy squad that was moving to support them too. However a bit of shooting and a combined charge from both mepheson and the assault squad really weakened them. They were wiped out in my opponents turn to his annoyance, but so was my assault squad leaving e with just mephy the priest and a libarian, who I decided to move back to protect killpoints. Mephy had 3 wounds left and I didn’t expect hi to take on the terminators on his own but figured it was worth the try. Opened up with my 2baals and my vindicaors storm bolter, leaving only 4 termys...

My last turn, I finally found an objective and realised I couldn’t loose so decided too throw mephy at them anyway. Killed all bar the one with the thunder hammer who wounded mephy twice. So gah mephyin trouble. Finale combat they killed eachother at the same time, but wipeout max points 

Now I was in joint first place and would be facing the number one spot, nidz....

 

Game 3, nids...

Actually first time playing with/against nids this edition... and I had a hard choice at the start and ill explain why.

The game was a version of breakout. You could not pass through the center line of the table except through the central 12 inches I had the whole half of my board to deploy in. And I woulf get kill points for eachof my units that got off. The nids just had o kill as normal and would get additional kps for each unit I didn’t get off. Now think about it. All I would have to do is reserve everything, outflank the baals, deepstrike the assault squads and I could have poped through with little casultys, but little gaming fun. I would have gotten 6 kps for that whilst my opponent would only have been able to get 4 max. But I thought thats no fun. Lets do it right and deployed everything.

Nids had, tyrant, 3 hive guard, fex, 2 stealer units, hormagaunts and termagaunts and warriors. He went first and moved forward. My turn manoeuvring and some shooting, one geanstealer unit was down to its last man. Little else. Mephy flew in and charged his fex, knocking it down to 1 wound, and killing it in out numbered wounds then I realised how close the stealers were.... his turn the tyrant charged and shook my razorback, and his stealers charged mephy and killed him this round and he took a few down with him. His hormagants also managed to charge one of my assault squads, but I won combat. I wiped them out in my turn(fnp kept me there with ease.) his limited fire power started to take a toll, taking out a baal, and the next turn the vindicator. The assault squad got out of the flamer back and shot the tyrant wounding it, the other assault squad moved up and did likewise, slaying the beast, but leaving me open to an assault from the stealers, ( I wanted to combine a charge against them and the tyrant... his turn he charges and devastate the assault squad. And kills them off eventually in his next turn. My other assault squad with packs who slew the hormagaunts jump over the combat shoot the termagaunts and charge them and the guard, killing 1 and wiping out the gaunts(forgot to do outnumbered wounds because game ended) and my foot assault squad went to help out the other assault squad. Heavy casultys and the stealers won...so in the end I got no units off the board but didn’t care. I still lost but this was more interesting and if I had I wouldn’t have bee a very sporting opponent to try it. Though if I was to try again I probably would have and tried to pick off a few units on the way out. Game to the nids, loss to me... if we were to do it again I still couldn’t call who would win...

 

 

Last game- vs spacemarinez

This was the 750 point game, the one I was prepared for for this I used

8 termys assault cannon

10 man tactical squad, powerweapon, plasmagun, plasmacannon

10 man tactical squad, fist, flamer, heavybolter.

 

Mission killpoints. But ofcourse with a twist. Units could not see to shoot at anything more than 12 inches away. And the shooting phases were swapped round, much to my opponents peril. Units always counted as stationary for their shooting phase.

He had, 2 10 man tactical, 2 scout squads and 5 assault termys, I went first. I also got to deploy in the fortress of redemption with one of my tactical( plasma one) and was a great benefit. I kept my 3 squads together. Fist turn I moved into slightly better shooting positions and that was it, he went to shoot but of course was out of range, and no assaults. His turn, he moved forward with everything, 2 scouts(snipers) and a tactical to my right, termys and a tactical to my left. I ignored the left for now and concentrated on the tactical and shot them with my plasma weapons and their bolters and also my assault cannon, leaving only a few. He couldn’t assault so my turn. I moved back so he couldn’t shoot me much. And to reposition my tactical squad to take on the termys. He tried to run his termys into the opposite wing of the fortress but failed to get high enough to climb the walls. He managed to get a few bolters and sniper shots onto my termys but no casultys. No assault. My turn over he moves and brings his termys up onto the walkway, the tactical and scouts get closer. Shooting I then open up an the termys and manage to kill 2... 3 left, my termys and my heavy bolter open up on the weakened tactical squad and wipe it out and now have the scouts in their sights. Termys assault my tactical plasma squad and manage to kill 5, I none, so I run and get out of the fortresss and he still in it, unhappy to be denied his prise. My turn I move my termys to charge the schouts, and too late he realises his mistake, I regroup my tactical squad and get ready for the termys. His phase he runs his termys right infront of my tactical plasma squad. And the scouts shoot at the termys killing one, but not enough. Then I charge, the termys getting hit a few times, but nothing serious and wiping out the first scout squad. Meanwhile his termys now standing right infront of my tactical squad so I charge them, and hes like why? And then he realises I got red thirst off on the squad at the the start of the game, furious charge power weapon (actually thinking about it I shouldn’t have ran from combat and got to charge, whoops...)but the whole squad struck, the sarge killed 2 and the rest killed the last. His turn scouts tried to run but were being shot by the termys, and the other tactical sqauad moved to try and shoot mine, my heavy bolter shot and killed one. Next my turn, termys moved at the scouts were shot again and one died but charged and wiped them out. And nothing happened on the other side. Game called, I won with 4 kp to 0( though it probably should have been 3 to1 now I realise I forgot that tactical squad had fearless...) anyway had I done enough to rank...

Fin, results. So finishing results they started at last and worked up. 16 players, wasn’t in the bottom 6 and I was happy, improvement on my last tourney there(18ish out of 21) top 10 whoo, not 10th, 9th, 8 7 or six, so top 5, whoop, wasn’t 4, so I placed, whoop, wasn’t 3... I got 2nd! Really didn’t expect that. Really pleased with that result. And to top it off I got the best painted army award too (tbh not hard as I was the only compleately painted army,lol, which score wise was enough to make the diference between 2nd and 3rd. Regardless was a good day all round and got to play some gamers ive never played before. There was a few glitches etc but next time will be even better and were thinking of stuff for the next on at the end of January. Till next time, thanks for reading

thanks guys. i was pleased with how things came out. you got extra points as well for killing more than you lost in some games and you lost for having more killed than you killed, so you culdnt just go for the win you had to try and stay alive whilst still killing. found it was a good stystem if soewhat still raw but will be fixed up for the next one at the end of january, for which i may have a different army figured out...
